Before I went to the festival I had a couple of bands that I really want to see and U2 was one of them. I heard about them on the radio a couple of days before the festival where they said it was a new, fresh band from Ireland that had a promising future.
I also remember Bono climbing the crane "flying over the crowd" and climbing the barbwire fence. Strange but nice feeling to see it all again.
My third Roskilde and the best one by far. The good old days before wireless mikes.
I remember the crane too - not to mention Bono's cable-man's expression when the crane swung away from the stage. It was all "Ohhhhhh shit! Here he goes again,. Gimme all the cable ......"
And it was all broadcast on national television abut a week later. I still have that VHS tape.
Hehe, I remember my mom telling me about being at Roskilde Festival that year and hearing U2 for the first time ever. She told me that during this concert her music taste changed thoroughly and a whole new world of music opened up to her. I guess it was a general thing for the Danish music public... Being 25 and having had U2 be a part of the music scene forever it's really funny seeing them being so young :-)
Great! Must have been an amazing experience..I was too young in 82 to go to Roskilde, but man I wish I could have seen this concert. So I guess Bono is 22 years old or so in this clip and you can already recognize his unbelievable charisma! Just amazing...
I guess his antics used to drive the rest of the band a bit crazy. During the Live-Aid concert he plunged into the audience and was gone so long they thought he'd screwed up their performance. It turned out to be one of the most popular moments of the concert and helped further establish U2 worldwide.
Goood to see how spontaneous it was - no rehersal for doing that !!!! Spontanaiety these days but they had 25 years to practice since then. Great vid - thanks

The reason why the band goes entirely wrong, is because they know Bono has fear of heights and goes like ... WTF????? hahahahahah

I was there, it was great. When it was shown on TV it boosted U2 from relatively unknown to extremely popular in Denmark.

Bad notes? Well it sounded to me like he meant to play it that way because he repeated those same notes right after it.
