The lyrics to this song are about the singer's girlfriend. She killed herself by throwing herself in front of a train after the singer broker up with her. A train whistle was in the original mix but it got compressed; you can still hear bits if you strain.
I remember playing this for the first time to my Mrs when I was in Japan, and no lie she came into the living room with a bag or clementines when this was playing, I thought that was funny, she had no idea why I was laughing. She likes Can now :)
This song, Moonshake and Don't Turn the Light on, Leave Me Alone are GREATS! And i CAN't understand... WHY!!!! I think that in this song the drums, the ritm, are very stimolating. But the others two songs i CAN't explain why are so GREATS for my mind...
What a rip of of radiohead. I mean they clearly got their whole style from radiohead. Thom Yorke Invented music. Just kidding I know CAN influenced radiohead hahahahaha
What a rip of of radiohead. I mean they clearly got their whole style from radiohead. Thom Yorke Invented music. Just kidding I know CAN influenced radiohead hahahahaha
@WhiteFocks If it's a label owned by a group like warner or sony then yeah the corporation can go fuck itself most of the time. But if it's an indie label (who actually, instead of just releasing music by musicians nobody has heard of also release music from the likes of white stripes and placebo) then they're not exploiting the musician because they can't afford to, and don't have the financial backing of big groups like warner. Indie labels do a good job of financing bands, they deserve credit
About Can, this is the first song of them I've listen to, I found about it because I was bboying at the time and there were some DJs using it as breakbeat, the second time was while I was listening to Radiohead, their cover of "The Thief" blew me away, but it's funny how I always end up falling in love with a Can song even though I only know those two songs. I should check out more of their songs.
this is cool. never heard of these guys but its awesome! i'm gonna tell some friends about these guys and i hope they don't ask me what they sound like
@leisurelydinner fuck yourself you unappreciative of quality music listens to whatever the media and hit radio pushes upon you go with the flow of the masses type idiot -- all others, enjoy this quality masterpiece
@leisurelydinner lol ya it only went on to influence RADIOHEAD and just about every other shit act that isn't Radiohead. Fuck you nigga, do your homework.
@leisurelydinner Tried to keep it whimsical with the Radiohead name drop (pretentious yes?) and by tellin' a nigga to do his homework. Kids these days...
I would give anything to have all the discs i ever owned back. In high school i had all the Can discs but i eventually sold them back to the record store for cash to buy...illicit substances. Ah, the folly of youth.
@mharrin5507 "Gook" is a racial slur for Koreans. The singer of Can at the period, was Japanese. So, technically, a "nip" or "jap". At least get your slurs right.
what differs Can here from those myriads of bands you mentioned here, that prog rock pompous shit is that Can knew the value of funk, the value of down-to-earth groove, they listened to James Brown, go to hell with your Yes and alike, only respect for early Pink Floyd and Soft Machine
@borchabronx Music is music. You shouldn't treat music like social-political factions and use them as "hip weapons". Stop with the "My dad is better than your dad" type thing.
@r3t0dd Yeah, I like King Crimson. The drummer's amazing. Larks Tongue in aspic is my particular favorite album. Thanks to everyone who's replied to me. It is great to discover new (in the saway of I haven't heard of them) bands!
Just got into can and love this song. Does anyone else know any other obscure 70s prog rock band. Been trying to get into prog big time, but im afraid that until recently my knowledge of PR has been limited to Pink Floyd. Any ideas, anyone?
@Hugehugo912 Check out Gong, particularly their 'Angel's Egg' album. Also Amon Duul II's 'Wolf City' album. I assume you've already heard King Crimson's 'Court of the Crimson King.'
@mgdr4066 I know exactly where! You can go down to your local record store, purchase a copy of the record from a music guru, who people will call "snobby" because he's bitter from getting paid less than minimum wage, then go home and put on a nice pair of headphones and sit in the knowledge that, even though the system is completely f*cked up beyond recognition, you financially supported a musician and an industry. Or mediafire should do it.
word. But mostly that recordstoreowner is a friendly dude, who even though has less customers then before cause of people's fastfood mentality, still is cool, cause he does what he loves. And when you buy a record, he gives you some free knowledge on some obscure stuff, hell even without buying a record. Or rapidshare that bitch.

@ShadowCrashed81 Glad you asked. A most relevant example of someone being paid less than minimum wage is something in retail called "piece-work." In this scenario you should be paid %120 of minimum wage per hour if you are selling product, which means your income is dependent on customers rather than hours working. Hope that answered your question, and if it was mocking get out of your house and learn that law and practice are separate entities you dipshit.
@Hartsteves Actually, if you're buying it from the record store and getting it on vinyl, chances are you're only supporting the store. And if he acts snobby, it's probably because he *is* a snob, having earned it over the course of many long hours selling music. ;)
