Like a kung fu master I know said : When a guy aims a gun at you....you put your hands in the air! Nice moves but unless you are sure you're about to get shot there is no way in hell you are ever gonna try any of these in front of a gun.
This is crappy becuase whilst the defending guy might seem skilful, the fact of the matter is that the guy with the gun is acting like a total amateur.
@inhiswords aikido is a self defense martial art, its not used for fighting, its used for killing and or maimeing the opponent in order to preserve your own life. most of the techniques of aikido are not allowed in tournaments or sparring scenarios.
I agree with Kaiser with this beign Hapkido, the gi is different and as far as i know Aikido does not end up with a strike if the opponent is on the ground. Atemi are done during the technique, if the oppenent is already defeated theres no reason to strike him. Also the characters displayed are Korean so i strongly believe this is Hapkido.
@arikateno Atemi to a downed opponent is quite commonly taught in aikido actually, particularly in the styles that developed earlier in aikidos history when it still more closely resembled Daito-ryo Aiki-jujutsu.
Here's a little test you can do: Have your mousepointer over the pause button. If you can click before he can effectively grab the gun. He would be dead. I got 4 out of 6.
A lot of you aikido-fans keep saying that. But I've been at this game quite a while and I never met anyone that could win a fight solely with aikido-techniques. Aikido has it's merits, but has to be adapted if you want it to be usefull.
Yeah, sadly nearly all anti gun martial arts techniques rely on the gun user being either in a set position or retarded enough to get that close in the first place. It's a case of years of training vs average guy off the street. Conversely, a gun user only has to spend a few hours watching some videos of gun defence techniques to know what to look out for and avoid doing.
@ioof82 Because it is hapkido, even the text in the video is korean and not japanese. But you cannot expect from the uploader to know the difference :D otherwise its a nice demonstration and would be very similar in aikido(except for the first technique, i have never seen an aikido technique, where the point is to land on your oponent when hes falling, which is pretty common in hapkido)
only a moron lets an opponent get within nine feet of him if he has a pistol. You step back and shoot the MF in the gut. This was a nice demo, a well trained person with the pistol would have gut shot him before he got to him.
I guess the scornful ones as usual are those who have been no closer to a dojo than a playstation yet alone devoted years to martial arts. The point about technique v a gun is that the person is not a professional given he has got close rather than keeping 3m distance. add in what their eyes tell you about fear/rage and you can judge it. The distance these guys are at it is v easy to deflect a gun from your path quicker than they can react if you give no signal.
I guess the scornful ones as usual are those who have been no closer to a dojo than a playstation yet alone devoted years to martial arts. The slams themselves aren't fake, but if this were real life, the shot would be fired off before the Aikidoka could even attempt to get close, if the gunman were even stupid enough to be that close in the first place. Try doing these exercises with some rubber bullets and some distance, then upload the video.
@EmbodiedDespair dude i hate your kind of internet fat kids all you do is complain and ruin common exercices plus in a carjacking situation you are even closer tot he gun man so YES i think they should pratice disarm+knock out.
The first one would probably get you killed, especially if the gunner is serious. I think 4 and 5 seems to be the best options. That gunner is standing too close anyway ^_^.
@martthesling you couldn't see it but on that first technique he moved off the line, bullets can only travel forwards, it's risky but a lot of the risk is removed by moving off the line and not hesitating. It also helped that he collapsed the wrist on the way forwards so that if the firearm discharged it would be away from him AND offer opportunities for techniques if he couldn't get the original one.
@superknife24 till now I have never seen any evidence of aikido owning someone! only agreed (pseudo) techniques please take me the hand... not this hand, the other....
@Kaiserflame1 This is Hapkido, atleast i have the most sertain belief about it. Aikido isn't ment to me so agressive. I mean, aikido is about controlling others and theyr attacks. That is attacking against someone who is pointing a gun at you. Sounds lot more Hapkido
I have to say I love the art and style of these techniques, the only thing is that in more than one case the Aikido practitioner put himself back into the line of fire. Even if he's controlling the hand, he's not necessarily controlling the weapon...the gun could also go off at any moment. I'd like to see these adapted a little more so that the initial threat ( the weapon ) is taken care of. I guess a hint of the Krav maga mind set combined with the Aikido style and techniques.
@edoxs more than likely, the korean text and techniques would suggest that, not to mention the uniforms. Generally the only people who upload such videos and label them correctly are the actual martial artists. Well either way it doesn't really matter what style it is, as when it comes down to it, its about the practicioner not the style.
ha ha thats awesome but really he takes too long to move the gun if anyone else here has fired handgun then they will understand what i'm saying when i say that you can shoot a handgun very fast and you would have pulled that trigger as he was moving because if you already have that gun up then well.. aikido is a beutifull art but i doubt its practicality
not exactly because no 1s expecting u to be able to take the gun from them as far as there concerned they are supirior becuz they have a gun so it will be unexpected
@urbanwarfare125 but real life isnt one of those movie seens where the bad guy has his moment where he waits to shoot u no like a "any last words?" kinda thing if u were going to kill someone u would pull the trigger once they were in ur sights i would need to see aikido in a REAL fight not a demo to really b able to say anything about it. love the takedowns tho
After the disarm, the aikido guy should take the guy and shoot the mugger. (in real life of course). true warriors are not only skilled in hand to hand combat, but can easily use any weapons at their disposal.
@dbspaceoditty: Try me. I know more about martial arts than you ever will. One of society's problems is its leniency to criminals. America's jails come with complete living accommodations only to release them to commit more crime. Every good and responsible citizen should annihilate evil at every opportunity. Martial arts both armed and unarmed methods should be used.
And who are you to judge I know nothing? Aikido is a dance. Not a fighting style.
@aa3gunner well. its called practice bro. ok, ive read multiple books about aikido that where written by Master Morihei Ueshiba. he states that using force too kill your enemy should never be used. and if you kill somebody who is evil, you are no better then that guy which makes you evil your self. lets not forget that its self defense, non offensive. which means striking and killing isnt something you would do.
@aa3gunner thats called practice buddy. i mean, what martial art doesnt have some form of kata? also, ive seen real aikido in a street fight and its saved my life plenty of times. when somebody pulls a knife on me i can easily take it from them. when somebody trys too beat me with a pipe when my house is being robbed i know how not too get knocked the fuck out by the big fucking stick. its called a demonstration buddy, i dont know a single form of martial arts that doesnt have it.
@dbspaceoditty: Boxing, Muay thai, Sanshou/Sanda, BJJ all have no "kata". These arts endure pain and deliver it. I've never seen Aikido used in competitive matches. It's always these "Katas" and dancing that's always around. In a real situation, your opponent wouldn't just give away his arms and leverage for you to take advantage of.
And killing murderers and rapists isn't stooping down to their level. It's called justice. Perhaps you're waiting for someone to try to rape or kill you?
@aa3gunner so, in boxing and MT and BJJ they hit the bag, not quite a kata but still practive. BJJ they have sparring sessions that are not full contact. and dude, aikido is pretty bad ass if you knew anything about it. ive used it in fights, the only thing i do thats not aikido is kick people in the head, cause people from the hood never expect it. and they dont expect somebody grabbing there arm after one of there hay makers and whipping them too the ground stepping on there shoulder and yeah
LOL... first of all I want to point out that i want to do aikedo...\
second, if your opponent had a gun , he wouldn't be standing so close because of the simple fact that near to nobody wants to get brain matter and blood all over themselves and plus, a gun shoots, fixing the problem that you had with a sword (being in close combat) and unless you can pull off a dramatic slomotion back-breaking bend, your not going to dodge a bullet...
your only hope then is if your opponent is a bad shot
Jesus... We get that you can push a grown man on his ass than tap his chest. It's not that fucking hard. What the fuck at the ending? You lay your elbow on his fucking neck than make some orgasm sound. Thumbs up if you laughed at my comment. :D
stuff izent gona stop a bullet its only for hostage situations or close robberies if a person with 1/2 a brain wanted 2 shoot u they would never stand that close u would never no it waz coming specialy if they no u do martial arts
i do aikido this isent strictly aikido but close the best martial art for guns personaly is crav maga again close range hostage or a overly cocky person that think a gun make them invicable
One step further back is all the attacker with the gun needs and at all times, no Aikido nor any bare hands (or feet) move can do anything about it, provided the guy (after warned the other or not) is committed to shoot as soon as the attacked moves closer, maybe shoot to the legs but do. But then again the attacker can make a mistake, get too confident, so...it's all still useful
Could you not test it with a paintball pistol and a paintball helmet? How do you know that nage is not accidently causing the gun man to pull the trigger?
I'm not too sure if this Aikido demonstrator can beat the reaction time of a perpatrator pulling a trigger. You have to be very quick if you were to use this in a real life situation. Nevertheless, respect towards the demonstrators for this video.
Whoever says this is fake, should go to japan, and ask to fight an 80-year old aikido practitioner. Tell me how it feels after you get out of the hospital.
@Kaiserflame1 your right ive been held in some of the grapples and locks, they are extremely painful, my only wonder is, is it practical, i doubt it would work , or even so you would have to be 80 to be a good practitioner
@Kaiserflame1 Whoever says this is fake, should go to japan, and ask to fight an 80-year old aikido practitioner. The practitioner can tell you then how it feels after he gets out of the hospital.
@Kaiserflame1 I know... even being korean, I think aikido (aikikai branch from Ono Sensei) much more refined. Maybe next year I shall return to aikido. Anyway, this moves here is a BAD JOKE and ruins the name of hapkido.
@Kaiserflame1 that's terribly retarded of you, why do you have to make more out of aikido than it isn? it's a perfectly good style without you making it sound like everyone who masters it is a freaking god.
I can promise you, anyone who knows a bit about fighting will brutally destroy the old fella.
@Kaiserflame1 Because, if you assume any 80-year old can beat up martial arts enthusiasts because of aikido, then you are either overrestimating the human body or your martial art.
@ParkFight oh no no no it's just the inertion and physics xD and about the fancy throws, they are doing them to prevent injures. of course that people on the street will not fall like that they would probably fall on their back or head.or maybe end up with broken limbs :))
@GokiGandalf My is only a comment to what I see... aikido vids are clearly agreed and on the street the only who will fall on his back with broken bones is the aikidoka himself!
@ParkFight@ParkFight haha one thing that is interesting about Aikido is when people see it dont know what actualy happens, it confuses them. xD and they think that its fake hhh. im not gonna bother now explaining to u cuz i see that it would be pointless. aikido tought me a lot about selfcontrol and no frustrateing my self from ignorant people like u. :D
@GokiGandalf Please notice I simply stated my opinion and you offend me because I don't think as you... Have a good training and above all enjoy whatever you do
@SupermanorNot IGNORANT, if apply pressure the trigger is activated. Watch the video, would receive the shot in the abdomen. Take the time of the reaction, .8 seg. vs .2 seg. only the first move. Please dont be ignorant.
@funman11 its not aikido and only 10 year olds on the internet play the my martial art is better than yours game grow up you dont know anithing about aikido except for what you see on youtube
@lokositful It looks like aikido and those are some aikido techniques but they dont have an aikido stance and i was talking about all those kids that go on martial arts videos and leave comments saying that their martial art is better and that the martial art in the video sucks or dosnt work when they realy dont know anithing about it.
First off there is alot of diffrent forms of akido I was trained in tomiki akido for about six years I there are very simler moves in akido. But as for the striking I am leaning towards it being hapkido not akido
who's posting all this Aikidos videos?? because they are not Aikido, this is either Hapkido or any of it's variations...oh mr Blndrfist, you are a racist ignorant dumbass!
imagine that a guy points a gun to you.Unless it is fake the minute you tr to do anything or show off how good martial artist you are he will shoot you in the face.
unfortuneately just like most of these videos, they are one sided and wantpeople to believe that aikido is the way to go, you can disarm a person pointing a gunat you, blah blah blah. I was taught to anticipate what an attacker is going to do, and with training you can do this with some accuracy, but you cant out maneuver a bullet. the key is to begin the disarm process while the gun is still in motion, but again that takes a lot of training....
well actually you Can do this, I know many P. Officers who have come up in this predicament without being shot, if it wasnt police departments all over the world would not teach this, but its all in the training youre getting, attitude and situation, I guess they taught you to be psychic not to protect yourself, and probably was the same teacher that taught you this was Aikido
This person has died 5 times at least, or 6 times if unfortunate. I am really glad they are Koreans, so people don't think Japanese Bu-do are this stupid thing.
In Aikido they wear white uniforms! I do Aikido, so I know that. :) At any rate, great filming!

second, if your opponent had a gun , he wouldn't be standing so close because of the simple fact that near to nobody wants to get brain matter and blood all over themselves and plus, a gun shoots, fixing the problem that you had with a sword (being in close combat) and unless you can pull off a dramatic slomotion back-breaking bend, your not going to dodge a bullet...
your only hope then is if your opponent is a bad shot

Jesus... We get that you can push a grown man on his ass than tap his chest. It's not that fucking hard. What the fuck at the ending? You lay your elbow on his fucking neck than make some orgasm sound. Thumbs up if you laughed at my comment. :D

you guys are all blind to the possibilities of the amazing art of aikido, you have no idea how beautiful and effective it is!
kikitakahani 1 year ago
stuff izent gona stop a bullet its only for hostage situations or close robberies if a person with 1/2 a brain wanted 2 shoot u they would never stand that close u would never no it waz coming specialy if they no u do martial arts
i do aikido this isent strictly aikido but close the best martial art for guns personaly is crav maga again close range hostage or a overly cocky person that think a gun make them invicable
flytrini 1 year ago
One step further back is all the attacker with the gun needs and at all times, no Aikido nor any bare hands (or feet) move can do anything about it, provided the guy (after warned the other or not) is committed to shoot as soon as the attacked moves closer, maybe shoot to the legs but do. But then again the attacker can make a mistake, get too confident, so...it's all still useful

@giammira we all got your point. you're an american. ok.
Even a 10th level grandmaster will die if he fights against an apachi chopper loaded with 7.62 rounds and patriot missiles. happy now?
Let me just add something though: a pussycat attacks with all that equipment. A man does not need any of those. Martial Arts.

Kaiserflame1 1 year ago 51
@Kaiserflame1 How many people in Japan own guns? Has there ever been an instance of any of these moves being used in real life?
Tippet76 1 year ago
@Kaiserflame1 your right ive been held in some of the grapples and locks, they are extremely painful, my only wonder is, is it practical, i doubt it would work , or even so you would have to be 80 to be a good practitioner

@Fenixmaiden666
well, it's estimated that you would need to learn aikido for a few (3-5) years before being able to make it practical.
but it usually depends on the time u spend on aikido, as well as dedication to the martial art and your willingness to observe, absorb, and try hard
thats what my sensei says
also, when i first started aikido myself, (im sorta new to aikido too), i was also worried about this.
but it's a really great martial art, and u learn stuff u can't learn from other ma's

Moratorium 1 year ago
@Kaiserflame1 u right... the best option of dodging is AWAYS putting the gun UP, never try to dodge to sideways or point it down like the first move.
Azfargh 1 year ago
@Azfargh
HAHAHA, ya, thats stupid (first move made me laugh)
well..........this is hapkido, which is derived from aikido
hapkido is different from aikido
let me just tell you, in aikido, there are no stupid moves like that
Kaiserflame1 1 year ago
@Kaiserflame1 I know... even being korean, I think aikido (aikikai branch from Ono Sensei) much more refined. Maybe next year I shall return to aikido. Anyway, this moves here is a BAD JOKE and ruins the name of hapkido.
Azfargh 1 year ago
@Kaiserflame1 i was an beginner practitioner when this 1st dan sensei did the wrong move with the yonkio technique messing up the nerves in my wrist
Zergrush64 1 year ago
@Kaiserflame1 that's terribly retarded of you, why do you have to make more out of aikido than it isn? it's a perfectly good style without you making it sound like everyone who masters it is a freaking god.
I can promise you, anyone who knows a bit about fighting will brutally destroy the old fella.
lusteraliaszero 1 year ago
@lusteraliaszero
i never said you would be a "god" if you took it, i just said that it's a respectable martial art, like others
i hate how people say aikido is fake and that it will never work
idk where you got "god" from
Kaiserflame1 1 year ago
@Kaiserflame1 Because, if you assume any 80-year old can beat up martial arts enthusiasts because of aikido, then you are either overrestimating the human body or your martial art.
I agree with you somewhat, though.

@ParkFight @ParkFight haha one thing that is interesting about Aikido is when people see it dont know what actualy happens, it confuses them. xD and they think that its fake hhh. im not gonna bother now explaining to u cuz i see that it would be pointless. aikido tought me a lot about selfcontrol and no frustrateing my self from ignorant people like u. :D

aikido is less violent.
this guy gives the other a punch when he trows him on the floor.
in aikido you immobilise your opponent when he is on the ground.

That's SUICIDE, you would get MURDERED if you tried that, if someone points a gun at you just give them the money, much safer.
Empyriumman 2 years ago
unfortuneately just like most of these videos, they are one sided and wantpeople to believe that aikido is the way to go, you can disarm a person pointing a gunat you, blah blah blah. I was taught to anticipate what an attacker is going to do, and with training you can do this with some accuracy, but you cant out maneuver a bullet. the key is to begin the disarm process while the gun is still in motion, but again that takes a lot of training....
dieselskidz28 2 years ago
well actually you Can do this, I know many P. Officers who have come up in this predicament without being shot, if it wasnt police departments all over the world would not teach this, but its all in the training youre getting, attitude and situation, I guess they taught you to be psychic not to protect yourself, and probably was the same teacher that taught you this was Aikido
