Obviously, Rey Mysterio is not the same as he was in WCW 10-15 years ago. First of all, WWE is mainly about promoting their sport entertainment style and not the lucha libre style of wrestling. Second, Rey has had multiple knee surgeries from all the high-flying aerial moves he has done over the years. Perhaps he is reluctant or just unable to go like he used to. Rey is only 35, but has been in the business for over 20 years. You have to change up your style to maintain longevity anyway.

@Jikk It's not even about being watered down, it's the fact that the guy has aged. And the style that he wrestles, yeah I am to glad I saw him in ECW and WCW and even in Lucha Libre before he came to the US, but that style puts so much wear and tear on the knees.
Still, he can still do amazing things in the ring even today so it's not as if he has lost all his glory.

@Jikk There is a reason he is "wattered down", it's because of age and injuries hes had during his career. He is still one of the best workers in wrestling, and can work a good match with almost anyone.
@Jikk It's watered down for many reasons. Rey's been wrestling for years and to have that high octane moveset that he used to have and to perform at that level on a weekly basis really gets to you. The dudes had surgery many times hence the watering down. Even now objectively speaking Rey can still have some great matches. I consider him one of the best workers of all time.
i couldn't have said it better myself. the only thing that is sad is how WCW never gave him a push... well wcw did not give literally anyone a push besides Goldberg that wasn't an established wrestler. That is what really led to the demise of WCW; they only pushed established wrestlers & wrestlers past their time. Sad because i grew up LOVING WCW

His masks were sold by the truckload, besides the ones he gave out to the kids at ringside. He held the Cruiserweight strap five times, tag belts a few times and he was the cruiserweight the announcers talked about even if he wasn't there during a cruiser match. He was about as pushed as a cruiserweight got at that time.

@Jikk It's not even about being watered down, it's the fact that the guy has aged. And the style that he wrestles, yeah I am to glad I saw him in ECW and WCW and even in Lucha Libre before he came to the US, but that style puts so much wear and tear on the knees.
Still, he can still do amazing things in the ring even today so it's not as if he has lost all his glory.

@Jikk There is a reason he is "wattered down", it's because of age and injuries hes had during his career. He is still one of the best workers in wrestling, and can work a good match with almost anyone.

@Jikk It's watered down for many reasons. Rey's been wrestling for years and to have that high octane moveset that he used to have and to perform at that level on a weekly basis really gets to you. The dudes had surgery many times hence the watering down. Even now objectively speaking Rey can still have some great matches. I consider him one of the best workers of all time.

i couldn't have said it better myself. the only thing that is sad is how WCW never gave him a push... well wcw did not give literally anyone a push besides Goldberg that wasn't an established wrestler. That is what really led to the demise of WCW; they only pushed established wrestlers & wrestlers past their time. Sad because i grew up LOVING WCW

@caronnaxtra Haha, I'm not sure what you think constitutes a 'push', but Rey was one of the most popular dudes in WCW at that time. His masks were sold by the truckload, besides the ones he gave out to the kids at ringside. He held the Cruiserweight strap five times, tag belts a few times and he was the cruiserweight the announcers talked about even if he wasn't there during a cruiser match. He was about as pushed as a cruiserweight got at that time.

@Jikk I agree. He was truly a marvel at that time: young, talented as all fuck, quick of foot AND quick of mind and not afraid to take some pretty serious bumps in order to make a match look good. It's too bad that the 'roids and years of natural abuse of wrestling took its toll on him.

@Jikk To be fair, you hit the nail on the head... 90's Mysterio. Maybe he has been forced to be watered down slightly... but he was in his early 20s at his WCW peak, he's now in his late 30s and has had 5 operations on the same knee... he's not exactly going to be bouncing around like a ping pong ball anymore.

@TheMexicanSpice I cant remember who he was against but it was early in his WCW carrear and him and his oponent was doing a spot where he was trying to unmask him and he did but mysterio had another mask on underneath and while his oponent was holding up the mask saying yeah I unmasked him and shit, rey who was still masked suprised attacked him and beat him.
