Now, they say it's KISS with or without the make-up. Look, these guys are all about going with whatever will sell at the time. In 1984, they became a "hair metal" band, because that's what was selling. They had already dove head first into disco, and would go the grunge route next. The only thing "original" about KISS is their unoriginality!

Kiss was really just Gene and Paul - all the others, even Ace and Peter, were just there for the ride. While many are Ace purists (for GOOD reason), it's really Gene and Paul whose absence would have killed the band. Honestly, I liked Kiss' "hair metal" phase. I argue that it wasn't a phase, since Kiss really is the ORIGINAL hair band anyway, along with, arguably, Alice Cooper and Gary Glitter.

FWIW though, Vinnie, while a good guitarist, better than Ace in some ways, is a dick.
