For me, the magic lies between 3:00-FULL on the gain knob, but the important thing to remember is that the bass/treble knobs interact with each other, so for me, if I want the pedal to really-sing, I have to back the treble off to the point where it's below the bass setting (In other words, if you set the bass at 3:00, set the treble @ 1:00.... or if bass is @ 12:00, then set treble @ 10:00). This is how you get more midrange (since there is no MID knob). Like I said, the controls interact.
I emailed Jon (Throbak) the other day concerning how the Throbak ODB compares to the Colorsound Overdriver. He said in silicon-mode, the pedal is exactly the same as the Colorsound. He said he improved the treble/bass functions as well to give it more flexibility as compared to the Colorsound.
Basically, the Throbak ODB is a spot-on clone but with much more versatility. Gearmann pretty much wanked off this whole demo, doing its sound and capability absolutely no justice.
Pair this pedal with a Fender Custom Vibrolux, and you'll have sonic-nirvana. Seriously. Best guitar tone I ever heard. It was as if the stars suddenly aligned for me. And that pedal loves humbuckers (It loves single-coils too, but it REALLY-LOVES HUMBUCKERS).
There's a lot more to this pedal. It's designed to be a modified Colorsound Overdriver, and there are a lot of really-cool silicon fuzz tones in there if you raise/lower the bass/treble knobs - They're extremely-interactive. And on the lower gain settings, you can get the Klon/overdriven clean amp sounds. The master vol. is invaluable. This pedal takes some getting used to at first, but once you understand it's potential, you'll never part with it.
After see this video, a month ago, I had no choice, my board was asking me one of it, It's has just arrived and is great, as you said. Thanks for your great videos.
I own this pedal, loaned it out and never got it back. IT can get a noisy when the levels are high but it sounds pretty cool. Lots of different tonal options, I miss it! I even used it with my bass for a pretty cool sound
I agree. I learned not to be afraid to back either of the tone knobs way, way-off. The bass and treble are extremely-interactive. LOTS of sounds in there. Nails 70's Jeff Beck. And this pedal really cuts through in a live band setting. No worries about competing with the drummer. Great natural overdriven-amp tones. I knew right away that I would never sell mine (Nor will I sell my SS Pro Bender, AM Sunface & Beano Boost, or my Fulltone OCD Ver. 4 - They're all keepers).
@gearmanndude How does it compare to the pedal it's cloning ( Colorsound Overdriver /Boost ), I'm sure the ThroBak is significantly lower in retail price. Their Tone Bender clone is pretty spot on.
great it's jack black

Glad to see this pedal in the smaller form factor. Looks well made with all the modern features. Really want to pick one of these up!

It needs to be played through a Strat.... The tele-copy doesn't sound good through it.

@StratmanSixtyNine lol, tele-copy sound so negative, like it's not as good as the teles fender makes. It's probably just as good if not better

I'd love to see someone run one of these through a big amp. I've only been able to try mine through combos.

This is supposed to totally rape the Klon tonewise. It would be cool to see a side by side of the two... Hmmmm what do YOU think GMD?

What is this business with the non-relic Telecaster? I don't understand. I think you know that we all want the relic Tele and not some imposter!
Actually, I don't really care, as long as it ROCKS! And this box ROCKS!
