I feel rather sorry for the woman who tries, during the post-screening Q&A, to offer Warhol's 'Heat' as a comparable film, which for some reason she confuses with 'White Heat'... and Waters totally ignores her anyway, obviously still rankled that at the start she upset his notions about the designer's credentials.
I do recommend watching Boom! but don’t see it just because John Waters likes it, because otherwise you’re just going to see it to be “cool” and Cool People are ALWAYS LAME.
I once stood within three feet of him in a movie theater lobby where he made a personal appearance at a midnight showing of Pink Flamingos in my city. I wish I had more nerve, I would have spoken to him-- just didn't want to be a gushing fan, He is so great!
I don't like Waters' work very much-Cry Baby was very good-but I like him very much as a person and a film commentator. He's one of the most intelligent people making movies. He's also one of the funniest. He'd be a great person to have over for a big, drunken dinner party. His take on Boom!is hilarious, and I wish I'd been there when he told Liz he loved the film.
he supports them because from his experiance teaching in prisons, he truly believes certain people can be rehibilated and deserve a second chance. hes gotten to know them and feels they have changed. The whole manson intrest is purely with some of the followers, not manson himself, hes curious as to how people who were pretty much of the same upbringing as him and his friends could go so wrong so tragically.. its not a fasicnation with the whole murder but the cult personality
i've seen boom, many years ago and still regard it as a masterpiece. not in a "john waters" way but in "joseph losey fan" way. water's remarks are insightful & personal and made see the movie in a different light. gotta luv that guy.
@bumblebert i was watching a F.@.G video (a halo video making clan) and saw this in the related thingy in the side and clicked it cause i thought the old man in the thumbnail could have something to do with what he was talking about. im not a "anti gay" but that could happen to any1... and i comment this cause i see ppl making statements like this all over videos when some1 is "trolling" and its a wrong statement
very sad that waters whose work i admire doesn't get boom as an allegory(do many of viewers understand that term?) it cannot be dismissed as some camp version of williams' work but as a representation of a tale of waste and loss.
Firstly congratulations on posting such a patronising comment. People who are genuinely intelligent don't display their alleged intellect like a piece of tacky costume jewellery. Allegory or not "Boom!" can only really be appreciated as camp. Minus irony it would be unbelievably pretentious. And do you honestly think Taylor wasn't TRYING for a camp performance?! She's visibly drunk in some scenes.
"She wears a kabuki outfit in this that you won't believe." LOL

I really respect what john has done he is very funny and talented. But I totally disagree with his support to the Manson family woman.

Actualy I like a bit of sodomy. After coming out of a long term relationship I was suprised to find a lot more people into it than I thought.
