  • I wish he did go for Prime Minister but he wasn't a back room deals kind of man.

  • Simple fix! Quit electing LAWYERS. America needs to F12.

  • Same history in Mexico

    Our economy is worsening

We had " a revolution" and now we are worse than 100 years ago

Nowdays, we have the world's wealthiest man in the whole world

  • Now to think that the same place where Tommy Douglas was elected (Saskatchewan) now votes Conservative and not a single NDP riding

  • The 'libertarians' (a word that was original ours, but was stolen by property right rightists) can never argue against Tommy Douglas' facts from his greatest speech. I'm waiting for someone to try and debunk it..

It's very easy to say a two tier system is efficient, but how? Many of the countries with two-tier systems pay nearly the same per capita on health care as Canada.

  • Tommy Douglas was a truly great Canadian.

  • Why are there Americans on every video relating to Canada, that has nothing to do with the United States?

  • @sweiland75 That's because Canada is so great!

  • @LadySpitz indeed it is :)

  • Ahh, good ol Tommy. Anyways, to those below. If you want to go ahead and claim that Democracy isn't freedom, then I must add a caveat: and Capitalism isn't freedom either.

Government isn't just the House/Senate/Parliament of your country, but simply THAT WHICH GOVERNS YOU. The need for sustenance governs you. The company you work for to satisfy that need governs you. Your landlord or mortgagor governs you. But, unlike the gov't, you DON'T get an equal say in those enterprises.

  • people who want canada to go back to a private enterprise system need to get a grip and stop being so self centred. mainly because you may be able to pay for what ever care you need bu the middle and lower class can not afford to spend $100,000 just to get life saving surgery. Also in the US thousands of people die from treatable diseases even though they could be treated easily.

  • @Kofiv2 So then your a slave to government.

  • LMAO 90% of Americans are insured dont play this class warfare bullshit. Canada is one one of only three nations in the world with a state monopoly on healthcare. How exactly would a two tier system sentence thousands of people to death. It would make it far more efficent and maybe your province wouldnt have to devote half its budget to feeding the leviathan of public health care.

  • Rofl, 90% of Americans aren't even insured. Don't criticize the Canadian system.

The United States is the only industrialized world without full coverage for all it's citizens.

Even your allies, Israel, Japan and Germany have healthcare for all it's citizens.

We dedicate a large portion of budget to healthcare due to the fact that people make incorrect lifestyle choices.

You military has socialized medicine, they seem to be productive.

    Why shouldn't the people?

  • Equality before quality. About 12 million americans are uninsured. So for 12 million we should destroy the lives of 308million. I thought leftists were all about the counterculture why should the US conform? LEt me tell you this incorrect lifestyle crap is one part fascistic and one part unfounded. Smokers, the obese these people die young. They dont raid the pension fund or the healthcare fund thats seniors. And son you got a hell of a lot of seniors coming along from the boomer generation.

  • Our quality of care is better and your country spends more per capita on it's patients then we do.

So should you send the 12 millions americans to concentration camps because they are unfit?

I see a lot of fat americans and fat canadians in their old age, I guess they must be imaginary right.

  • @Seaworldexists YEAH YOU BETTER SAVE THE TRILLIONS YOU SPEND ON MILITARY TO BOMB HOSPITALS MILES AWAY FROM YOUR OWN COUNTRY. FUCKING AMPUTEES THREATENING THE EMPRE OF THE USA

  • @TheAutoSleep If the western European democracies didnt have the US subsidizing their military spending youd see their welfare system collapse. THe US unfortunatley is not imperalistic though I would fully support a move in that direction.

  • @Seaworldexists lol back under your bridge, troll.

  • WTF, he had a more dominant Scottish accent? I don't hear it in this actor.

  • This is such a great speech. I really wish every American can hear it.

  • I can remember back to the 1950's, when there was no universal health care as we have now. My father died, leaving $6000 of medical bills. $6000 doesn't sound like much now, but in the 1950's, a teacher, like my mother made $3800 a year, so $6000 of medical bills was a BIG thing.

  • FPGOP, in response to your statement.... How else would it be paid for if not through taxation. What is being stated is that you will not have to pay for your doctors bill it is already covered.

  • @koalheca what it says is that the government, through unelected unaccountable beurocrats allocate one of the most important aspects of a persons life based on a falicious ideology. It says a person is not free to pay a doctor what they think they are worth or to pay for timely surgery, but are forced to finace a faulty system by the force of a gun.

  • good things those cops didn't have tasers back then.

  • Taaitaai, in response to your comment...

Instead they would shoot you under the order of protecting the democratic way of life any way they saw fit. Tommy used peaceful ways to change the situation, as he said in his speach "You can lock up a man but you cannot lock up an idea"

  • Never heard of this movie, is it good?

  • This movie is excellent it proves that good can trump evil. The Evil in this movie are the careless governments in Regina and Ottawa up to the early 1940's who allowed the citizens of not only Sask. but all of Canada to barely survive their days. Instead of assisting the population they blamed the recession for the ills of the people.

  • It isn't the parties we need to change it is our political system of Tyranny of the majority.

Ontario is the Black cat with 106 seats out of 308 and Quebec is the white cat with 75 seats/308, and now we have an orange cat that wants all of the minority mouse provinces to vote for it.

If the NDP ever gets into power they will have to cater to the Upper Lower canada majority if they want to remain in power. Cause and Effect people Cause and Effect!

  • I loved this movie.

  • This movie "Prairie Giant" was one of the best movies I have seen...he was an amazing leader backed by some extremely intelligent men too...He got Saskatchewan out of 150 million dollar debt in just 12 years--after the great depression-- he reduced it to practically zero! We need leaders like that now; not to mention later he aided in the creation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and so on... Tommy Douglas was an Awesome Man!

  • We in the US have a Tommy Douglas. Hell, We have two, their names are Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney

  • He is very differant for them, he provided for us free health care, I am Conservative but thats one thing I like his party did

  • Our healthcare isn't really "free". It's subsidized by taxpayers.

  • @ FPGOP

American HMOs failed and needed a bailout at the expense of the Americans children and grandchildren. I'll gladly pay a few tax dollars instead of saddling any descendants with a taxation from my selfish greed.

Tommy Douglas was a hero and a blimp on the political scene. He was a rebel that somehow slipped in enough to change Canada for the best.

We need more people Tommy Douglas!

  • @MilanTbay Sasatchewan's health system is a disaster. It is unsustainable, doctors are underpaid, there is a shortage of hospitals, nurses, equipment. We don't have the most advanced drugs, we used to be a place of inovation before medicare.

  • The US also has the insurance takeover of the health care system and is the only nation in the industrialized world not to provide health care for ALL it's citizens. Canadian health care is ten times better than US insurance-run health care.

  • I am an American and believe it or not I have heard of Tommy Douglas. He would have made an excellent PM for Canada. He did great things and as an American, I can only envy to why we didn't have or have politicians like him now.

  • he should have been prime minister.

  • @Cuda11 I agree. So should Jack Layton God rest his soul. It's time that we had a government for the people.

  • TRU DAT, WERD UP! CCF TO VICTORY!

  • I love this man.

  • Tommy was a great character. Wonderful politician.

  • the USA has far too many cats!

  • And our brave mice are being eaten or being lied about!

  • we need some mice to build better "cat traps" (wink)

  • Agreed there!

  • Canada needs democratic socialism today.

  • You need democratic socialism. We all do, but the US could stand some democracy first.

  • @westphalianprinz

We don't need democratic socialism. We need freedom. Freedom supersedes socialist force. We properly couldn't grant government more power than we as individuals have. I don't have the right to force you to do certain things against your will. Why should it be ok for me to delegate that power to government?

Democracy is not freedom. Fifty one percent of the population could vote away your individual rights. What we need is a Republic which protects individual rights/freedoms.

  • @YALUVU I agree. If anything the warning about regulations is all the more reason for limited government.

  • @westphalianprinz not if democracy means tyrany of the majority.

  • Excellent.
