  • I am playing this for solo and ensemble and this is the exact tempo i'm taking it at. When I'm not playing with my piano accampaniest I play along with this video.

  • HI MELANIE :D *is Claire Binkley* I have started learning bassoon over my university career as a minor. It's so much fun.

I really liked your cadenza!! n.n The soloist is very pleasing to the ear, even if her accompaniment is definitely a high school orchestra.

  • great job, this is a very dificult solo!

  • I'm doing this piece for a solo competition and I always reference to this video. Nice job! (:

  • thanks! it's really nice to hear that my video is being used for reference :-)

    good luck with your competition!

  • im so excited to learn to play this!

  • Wooooooow, it's slow, but but also being played very nicely

  • The cammera guy is terrible... should use a tripod or something... nice playing. Little slow

  • I think the basoon is very well but the other players need more work

  • i love how hontz was actually glaring at the horns when they played their first note...good job mel!!

  • Very very nice. The soloist produced a beautiful, full rich sound, with exceptionally solid articulation of the music. Always in tune! I think this is a exceptionally high level of musical elocution for a high school musician. Bravo!

  • I'm not a horn player (clarinetist actually), but don't be too hard on them. Woodwinds have it a bit easier since we usually just blow and let different key fingerings change the note. Brass players have it a bit differently since they use harmonic series to change notes (basically changing the air stream that goes into the horn). The Horn is hard to play in orchestras than bands because horns have more moving lines in most of the orchestral repertoire.

  • And think with those moving lines, an average high school hornist would have trouble with not only getting the correct notes out, but getting intonation locked in.

I like your tone by the way. Are you going to study music in college?

  • HOT DAMN FRENCH HORNS. Please learn to tune for the love of god.

Anyway, nice job Mel, it's Alex. I especially like how you can tell that I look ridiculous even on the bad quality video...

    'twas a memorable night.

  • The bassoon playing is alright, but the accompaniment needs some work (especially the horns, they sound off tune). Good work

  • very nice
