Acer Aspire One - Working Atheros Wifi in Mac OSX

What is your computer? D-255? i have a specific model,(D-255E.i) and i was thinking why doesnt it run with internet instead of using a app what you are using.? the drivers should just transfer and adapt to the device running on the computer in general, such as ubuntu or debian or beryl

@MontageReflex ok then... well lets see is it my model? or somewhere close? i think you gotta see if there is a driver that can run on hac osx. maybe in the kernel or the BIOs can work the wifi... wait i have a question, do you have it as a main operating system or is windows on it 2?

@theroxorman48 It is not your model. It is a notebook. Acer Aspire 5336. I've downloaded countless drivers (called kexts) onto my OSx. No luck and quite frequently it's pissing me the fuck off. But, I am dualbooting OSX and Win 7 64bit.

@theroxorman48 No, nothing is connected. Everything under networking says "failed" it is a kext problem. That is it. Its not a hardware issue, it is a kext problem.

i'm running a stock acer 9410-4441, replacing with a AR9285 wifi- using hazard 10.6.6i installer - updated my kext to include a DeviceMergeNub.kext and a Atheros_AR9285.kext - only to get me connected to see wifi networks and connect to my home WEP- but no internet- using manual DCHP-

I was actually trying to find out how you and everyone is actually doing it- and have come to some conclusion that 1) I don't speak the language 2) everyone like myself have shown the wifi connection as active and was really using the ethernet port-

I would also say that I'm sure that every configuration does not allow the same results- and this is probably why Steve jobs wanted to close the door on mult-vendor support on hardware internals-

seeing how you don't give any valid info- I have to say this is a wasted effort

I have AR9285, that connects to networks but doesnt go out to internet- so I can say the same thing is going on HERE- yeah this is 2011

@CAMXposurePhoto The video clearly shows that it is connected to the wireless network. Believe what you want; plenty of people have gotten this to work with minimal effort. You sound like you don't know much so I would review the links in the video description so you can become more educated on how this works.

comfirming that it won't work on Acer Aspire one 10.5.7 or 10.5.8, it's only work on 10.5.6 and below i think, btw i'm downloading iatkos 5i.

@rts2808 Are you installing any more kexts after you install this one? When I had it working I installed the wifi and then I installed the battery control...after that the wifi stopped working.

@krayziazndragon I get kernel panic every now and then, but that's only after installing the modded wifi kext. It didn't panic at all after normal installation.

@WizeCaine94 I'm not sure. I am usually switching between the two quite often anyway. I assume you only have to boot into Windows or another operating system once to make sure your card is on and working and the boot into OSX.

Just reformatted my main computer after Christmas, so I don't have my old OSx86 stuff anymore. I'm trying to find all the kexts and updates from my backups and upload them to my web server. This should be done by next week.

10.5.8 will reconize the atheros card as air port extreme, but kismac (in my case) will not load the drivers for the airport extreme passive mode. there for wireless wont work. (ran it on a toshiba a205-s5831 all stock)

I don't know about 10.5.8 as I've only used 10.5.5 Voodoo. Also, I don't think the wireless card is the same in the two netbooks.

Im on 10.5.8 running the Voodoo Kernel and as of yet, i've had no luck. I will continue to try but i am not expecting much :)

Maybe I should downgrade to 10.5.5 because tbh, the benefits between 10.5.5 and 10.5.8 are negligible imo. It comes up like it does on yours, but when I use kismac to search, it just doesn't search. Doesn't even scroll the channels lol. Dangit aye? :D

Sound works great. There's a kext you have to install for it to work. I'll see if I still have it. From my experience OS X runs just as fast as the pre-installed XP did, but I only used the XP for a couple days before wiping it and putting Win 7 on it.

I'll probably end up doing it when I want to take the plunge by opening the case up. Until then, this works great. If I do open the case im adding RAM, SSD, and the wifi card.

If you haven't, check out the take apart video by Tnkgrl (Google her), she has a 30 minute live take apart video showing step by step instruction on unassembling aspire one. I got an SSD, more RAM, and dell card in mine. Next is to add a touch screen and triple boot with Win 7, OSX, and Ubuntu.
