I built a 3x3 shaft down to my mining site before I made the water ladder. Then I watched this video. Then I realized how utterly STUPID I am. So, I had two options: one, fill up the entire damn hole, or two, make a water ladder out of cobblestone. I picked two. And damn, was I mistaken. It's so utterly painful trying to do this. ;-;
Why is Rezand's video better? I appreciate you making notes instead of talking, because it sounds kind of weird listening to other people + notes are more comprehensible and you always know where they are. I think notes are best, voicing is stupid.
@DannyUfonek Although in this case its irrelevant, it's stupid to say something like a voice over explaining how to make -insert- is stupid as opposed to "I made -insert- while I play unfitting music (now with annotations).
@DannyUfonek Correction, I thought by notes you were referring to the music instead of the annotations. -slaps self- As for the latter half of my previous comment, I still stand behind it. Really, either could (in theory) just as effective, but I find people tend to explain things better when talking.
Now, ultimately, I think Rezand's is only better in the fact that he explains why it is better to use ladders instead of signs. He doesn't even explain how to make the water ladder.
I hate to say this but I really hope notch fixes this bug. I never knew about this, all I knew was I had to build really high walls and or ceilings over my walls so that creepers stopped using my moat to jump the fence.
Ladders were pointed out as a better alternative. They use less wood, stack in inventory, and are an alternate exit if something breaks down. (Thanks Thorax over at Reddit for pointing out the benefits)
@Realjhad Fake? How so? Is he trying to trick you somehow? No. This is proven to work and I have tried it myself. So what if he didn't mine the iron. How do you know if he didn't mine the iron after the video? He couldve just ignored it for the sake of the viewers and stick to his tutorial. I really hate comments that make no sense whatsoever and accuse the video and/or uploader of something that isn't true. In other words, STFU and GTFO for my time is too precious to insult you thoroughly troll
I forgot to edit the sound out before I posted, am a youtube noob. I swapped it, and the audio is right when I did the annotations, but still the crap track here.
I may be misunderstanding but i was refering to the sign system as well. Unless he was placing that down as estimates. Though wood is renewable and water is easy to get its expensive time wise than say "regular ladder system"
@SubHek How is it expensive and only doable near a water source? If you have three buckets of water, you're all set. Did you even pay attention to the way he used one bucket of water for all the levels?
Expensive? How so? 9 iron 128 wood and some stone for picks. Takes about 10 minute to prep and then you save a ridiculous amount of time thereafter. This video was only a small example.
I will post my base in the next video so you can see how fast you go from bedrock mine to parapet and see if it's worth it. It is easy to block off / soak up lava or water, takes but a moment. I only use these for everything now.
love the music

when you say, YOU must face south or west, is it the water that should be south or west or the signs/ladders

@Mingan What's the problem with your observation again? This is clearly 5x faster than using ladders.

Why not use the other method for landing, with the suspended block of water?
You slow down, but land on solid ground.
