Since I was a youngster I have been a Lanza fan...very devoted. Now I am almost 70. My first LP that was purchased with my own money as a kid was The Great Caruso. I have a supernatural story about Lanza that happened to both me and mom about 1966. But too many here are rude to anything different. Now only I know what happened. Goodbye, Mario. I will be seeing you soon.
I did meet him and he was wonderful - handsome, smiling and in great voice, filling the hall with his voice and only accompanied by a pianist. with no electronic enhancement. Do not compare him with anyone else please - he was unique with a voice like no other and we will never see his like again. There has only been Mario for me for the last 58 years and he will always be my only tenor..... not interested in any of the others who are unable to match Mario's voice.
How sad to be watching Mario's funeral....... we will never forget the pleasure he gave to so many people, and indeed is still giving. His voice was unique - there will never be another one to match his glorious voice. Life is so unfair at times - he was gone far too soon. His potential had yet to be reached when he died so young.
Mario, you will never be forgotten. Thank you so much for all you gave.
Mario will never be forgotten. Thank you so much for this song, one of my favourites fo all time. It always upsets me to see those pictures of his funeral - he died far too early. Who knows what success he would have had in the opera houses if he had lived. I consider it to have been around when he was with us - the greatest ever!
Just play "Non ti scordar di me" say of Pavarotti (the version with Vanessa Williams is beautiful), B. Gigli, Leonardi, Di Stefano, Boccelli, Domingo, Carreras and Lanza and make other people to listen without identifying who's singing and then make your survey ...
@paulostroff99 Paulo,We all have our preferences and certainlyGigli was a great tenor. My intent is not to diminish another artist but certainly to just state an opinion.Even though I have my favorites which are Lanza, DelMonacoCorelli&DiStefano, I certainly mean that I enjoy them the most.I also enjoy other great singers as well like Caruso Pertile Campagnano Lauri Volpi Barioni Fillipeschi Cortis ETC.Many tenors including my favorites have their shortcomings, but I enjoy them irregardless Enjoy
Lanza appears smoking! During the last years of his life he looks ill and bloated! I alwayys suspected that some other drugs, besides alcohol, were involved in his process of self-descruction... His depressive and weak character wife could not help much! Glorious artist!
@listeningtoit may i propose that EVERYONE smoked in the 1950's? caruso's predeliction for spraying his throat with ether was instrumental in his death. in addition, lanza did not suffer from any "issues" that his operatic peers did not, most notably alcohol. if anything contributed to his early demise, it was the derision of those who refused to recognize his talent because he chose the movie screen over the opera stage. we allowed pavarotti to become a "rock star". enough said.
And God said, "I will send you to live with these beautiful parents and you will have the most beautiful voice. it will bring joy to all the people who will have your voice in a world that has been torn by so much pain. Many will turn on you and hurt you, but remember I will always love you and be waiting for you when you return
By going on drinking and eating binges through the years put a lot of stress on his body. Died in Italy at a hospital after supposedly his third heart attack. Had Phlebitis in his leg, which formed a blood clot, resulting in a heart attack.
I thought I had every sound of Mario, but never heard him in this song. Well, I forget Beniamino Gigli ,who made this song unforgettable in the movie with the same name.
This beautiful man with the magnificent voice also was a wonderful husband, father, and son. He was extremely compassionate and generous. We will never forget you, Freddy. See you in heaven.
Very good film footage - think it starts off in London following Lanza's performance at the London Palladium when he was escorted to the train with his fee in banknotes in every pocket of his overcoat/suit. He lost the place in the train and threw money about the compartment "I am a tiger, I am a tiger" and some flew out of the window as the train steamed out of the station .... Amazing stuff!
This sure brings back a lot of memories! I saw his movies when quite young but never did see about his funeral, so it's a first time for me. Hard to think that in his best years it all came to an end so soon - much too soon! He will be remembered, definitely.
This is much too sad and much too beautiful The sad day of Mr. Lanza's funeral on one hand and on the other his grand singing voice in these wonderful moving lyrics Thank you for this video and song
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. iN THIS SONG HE COME TO US EVERY TIME. hE IS JUST LIKE A LITTLE BIRD WITH THE GREATEST VOICE. I TREASURE HIM ALWAYS ALONG WITH HIS FAMILY. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. ALWAYS LOVE.
I have been to the gates of No.56, Via Bruxelles shown in that video of Mario Lanza's home during his time in Rome, now the Chinese Embassy...
Unfortunately when I started taking photos of as much of the building that we could see behind the boarded up gates, security didn't appreciate it and I was moved on...

I am sure that there was a shortage of singers in heaven... That is why Mario was called at such an early age!

OMFG! Then it moves on to Lanza arriving in Las Vegas followed by more bloody funeral stuff. Who edited this, Helen Keller??
ronaldo190172 2 years ago
OMFG! Who the F put this together? Starts off very tenderly with Mario's funeral, then moves on to Al Teitelbaum's court case...bloody hell...

What a moving clip. The rendition of Non ti scordar di me is also very bittersweet.
This song is wonderfully interpreted by many of the greatest tenors, but the song will always remained and coupled with the phenomenal Beniamino Gigli.
