Unbelievable! This shall be a boy really? Even a Danielle Deniese would become extremely jealous concerning his voice abilities! Excellent performance!
Listening to music on u tube is like gambling; every so often one hits a jackpot. Such is the case here where one finds not only a beautiful and rare Mozart aria, but one stupendously sung by the soloist. I find this version more satisfying than any other. By contrast, interpretations offered by adult sopranos seem strangely charmless. Moreover, the slower tempo taken here yields a more graceful result while allowing the soloist to breath mid-phrase as warranted.
There is a blog (in French) where the author remembers attending a rehearsal and a performance of this opera in June 1984, in Venice. Tölzer Knabenchor, youth orchestra from Bavaria (maybe they didn't play this stupid C natural at 0:37). The author says that after this aria, there was a thunder of applause, leaving Allan Bergius a bit embarassed.
Some later TKC- sopranos have been (by modern video-technic being used by nearly everybody) reaching greater fame and popularity, but to me Allan Bergius is absolute the best one. A tremendous performance here - 7 minutes singing - Crystal clear hitting e-v-e-r-y tone - Lupen-rein D - höher als Hohe C! . And what an ACTOR he is - was für ein Schauspieler! All 7 mts singing, dancing, gesticulating, moving with fantastic ease and natural feeling for what every scene demands. - And he is 11!
Not to take anything away from this, but I heard the same part sung by former soloist Christian Fliegner, and it just blows away this performance by far. I'll upload it if it's not already on youtube.
@52sport6469 Fitting that he should be 11, since Mozart was 11 when he wrote this, and one of the original cast, the boy who sang Hyacinthus, was also 11. The boy who first sang Melia was 15 though!
Its a joke. In a moment of her aria, Melia says (figuratively, of course): fauns and satyrs will adore me So, her father Oebalus put grapes on his head, remembering the rural image that people have about these mythlogical beings.
And angel, a cristal-clear voice.. What a voice! What a high D! Mozart himself would be proud of this production. Bravo Alan, and thanks Seddius for posting this :)
I understand that this is Allan Bergius and his uncle. Die Tölzer , always the best ! Well, they both do a particular fine thing. At six years I sung in a boys choir in the Roman Catholic church of my home-village. Now I am 65 y.o and I still remember the great sound of that 4 voice-mass we sang in the early fiftys. Its great to look back at those things and so will this Allan Bergius be proud on this video! What a beautiful performance !Bravo !!!
Oh ja Hans, Du hast Recht! Was für eine schöne Aufnahme!!! Bergius was a great talent!!!!! Danke, Tölzer Knabenchor und Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden! A child composed this oper and a child sings: great, great!!!

Amade componeerde deze opera K38 in 1767 op 11 jarige leeftijd waarvan het libretto in het latijn, ongelooflijk.

I think this is spectacular in every way. Is it from a dvd or CD that is available somewhere. I would love to see the whole opera.
