This vid is linked from the app. They claim watching it will "improve your scanning technique." That's inaccurate, obviously. This is simply an extended promotional video and a waste of my time as a current user of the app. I know it sounds like nitpicking, but the intentional use of misleading wording leads to an overall erosion of trust in a product.
Used it to impress my husband. He wanted to buy a drill that was on sale but we wanted to know what other places were selling it for. I busted out with this cool app. and my hubby was impressed. Turns out it was a great deal.
Now I like this, it a lot more then that one on those Walmart straight talk phone, they don't even work and when it does it only gives you some code numbers. When this Red Laser for IPhone, it works just like a pro.
You guys just scan but you don't show what it does with the bar code. I can take pictures of bar codes too.
I was thinking this would tell me the price. Ever find something you might want but there is no price displayed. I thought that's what this was for. Guess Not.
This app is lame. It used to work for me fine, then one of the updates screwed it up and my phone won't read the barcodes. The barcodes look all blurry and it won't read them.
I agree with @iwantmycoffeeblack. Half of the video is of them scanning products. Haha. And it says "Improve your technique by checking out this video" when you press "show help" in the app itself. This video did not help me "improve my technique" whatsoever. And they need to update the video w/ an iPhone 4.
I love this Tech, but I guess I will have to wait a few more years for your data base to catch up. Everything search result came back with "No price".
Also, need to have regional setting, I am not going to pay shipment from US or UK when I live down under for a $3 book.
i scanned a box of dinner rolls and it literaly said:" Star Wars power of the Jedi Luke Skywalker in Echo Base Bacta Toy Tank". And you know what, red laser didn't even have any price results for the tank!!!, Let alone have the right bar code. But then again, it WAS a generic wal mart brand......
Great technology and certainly puts the buyer in control of purchasing decision. Now if I could only wish for one thing... Canadian content - please. Perhaps add a control to limit/select regional data if possible.
@MrNDSteinbach Not free anymore I guess, the app store has it on for .99 in Canada. Not sure if it's different in other countries. I'm a smartphone noob, but I just got an iPhone 4 today so I'm still learning things :) my old phone was ancient in cell years...4-5 years old I think that's 79 in cell years LOL
@MrNDSteinbach I just did a search and RedLaser is now free in Canada, which is good, because it actually doesn't support many Canadian products so paying for it would have sucked LOL But it's all good, I have another Scanner that works great for Canadian products :)
The app works great (I'm in the uk on a 3G) it won't find certain things but then why would I want to find chewing gum cheap? Isn't it cheap enough! But for computer games and electronics it's very handy.
It works about half the time with my iPhone 3G. The bar code is not in focus. Too close. According to the info provided if it can't find an item it sends the barcode back to the Redlaser folks and they'll add it to the database. Overall a clever app shoul steadily improve.
This app is very cool, pity it mostly works with American products: scan a videogame, a software and the app finds it. Scan any food or drtinks and it won't find it. Needs a broader database.
It would be nice to be able to delete items that get inadvertently started as favorites & maybe there is a way to do this. But if so, I haven't found it yet.
Shows a lot of online retailers and has a fast scan but does not give you the best prices and fails to show local retailers many times for basic items.
I have the redlaser on my iPhone and ut didn't work like it say,I scanned a item n Walmart and it said item not found, and I repeated the process three times to see if maybe I didn't have the bar code lined up or to fat or not close enough and still have error message.I think u need to try some Walmart scanning out,
Darn it, that's not fast enough for my needs.... I need a capture per second to use this for work. I'll need to hang onto my darned socketmobile scanner which isn't iPhone compatible.
How about adding in recall info? Just now, I received an email re a recall on certain children's Motrin products. Red Laser easily scanned the bar code from the email and gave me prices. If it also gave recall alerts and CPSC warning info, just think of the child safety and consumer safety endorsements your product could get!
Same here, I skipped the 3gs update from my 3g, thinking the 4G much more worth the upgrade
A lot of you viewing this vid simply can't buy Apples latest iPhone, it's just going to cost alot
However I found out on the Apple website today they are giving away a ton of iphone 4gs. Oh and, this will take you to their iPhone 4g giveaway site ... just copy and paste
voomr。com/iphone4gfree158
Also, the sign up pass code they ask for on the site is FACEBOOK4857
The problem with red laser is that you can't buy from your phone! I just got an app that lists prices, stores, and lets you add items to wishlists or registries -and- lets you buy direct on the spot! Google myregistry iphone app
@alissonlen Actually you can buy things on the spot with red laser... but I also have the myregistry app, and it's way better imo. I like keeping a list and seeing if what I scan is on amazon for cheap. The results are more discriminating/accurate.
A real piece of junk . Only does Internet based sellers. Not what they preach about comparison to. Big chain stores and local. Stay clear fr this app.
I have sacanned many items without sucess. What I have read from the agreement if u send in a photo to get a price there will be a charge. Does anyone have an opinion about this.
I bought it on sale at the app store. I think it's a decent app, however it does need some more adjusting to make it more beneficial for the buyer. I do get alot of online prices but I also get local a fair amount of time, the only thing that sucks is when I get local it's not very many stores.
I urge redlaser to visit the ideas a halfbakery ddoott com /idea/Ingredients_20Barcoding one person suggests ngedients database to benefit the ngedient conscious a different person beanangel suggests a consumer reports application
This works great it gives me both store and Internet prices. To people who are just getting Internet prices you need to scan items that come from a well know retail outlet
I tought the same, it would give the local or at least some known grocery shops around. But instead it only gives you internet prices!!! I don't get the point, if I'm gonna buy something online I use my browser and I can research much easier, then I don't need a app!!! :S
Generally very good though prices displayed are usually for online stores not local ones. Fix this issue and it'd be a sure-fire run to the top of the apps store league table as it definitely helps you to find lowest prices.
False advertising. Downloaded after seeing Iphone and app ad listing local stores. This app has yet to give me a local store(all Internet ) and the prices it gives me are outrageous. A bag of dog food that I paid $20.00 for at local pet shop came up as $59.00 as the lowest price. I want my money back!
Very effective. Obviously it will not cover 'own brand' labels, but gives good results for products that are widely available. A worthwhile programme which should safe you money.
Best scanner yet. I would like to see more development in the groceries area. Hopefully as time gos on, the database will expand into this area. Good job!
A new version of this app is expected anytime now -- if you've installed a while ago and don't have it anymore, be sure to get it reinstalled so that the App Store will notify you immediately when the update is available!
The update that JUST made it through Apple's process (after 17 days of waiting) is slightly older than this version, but does have the new realtime mode. A version that's slightly *newer* than the one in the video has also been submitted for review.
