Bajas are the best rc for power, and If you want power use the petrol engines. It is for me so much more enjoyable, for sure they might be loud, rip up your yard and piss the living hell out of your neighbours but the grunt that they have is something that I think every rc car needs. Electric cars are great and lots of fun but petrol cars are magnificent.

First of all, fair play for what you've done. Like you say, not everyone can deal with the sound issues with petrol engines.

But . . . . I feel you have removed the soul and purpose of the baja by removing the petrol lump.

First off, you don't need to make adjustments to the engine all the time.

You don't have to spend big money on batteries to run it, plus there is no long wait for the batteries to charge. Open the cap. Poor fuel in, and off to go again. Petrol is cheap, and will last age

I agree with the electric conversion... the gas is sluggish... with the right brushless motor / esc / battery combo this will blow ANY gas baja out of the water... every one of my brushless cars are MUCH faster than any nitro or gas model I have ever had period

@videoman223 Yes they are... they are fast.. and one tank of petrol lasts 35-45 minutes... I like the idea of electric.. but all of the things that were said as negative for the gas Baja are what makes it fun... the noise, the power, and the run time... and gas is relatively cheap at $3US per gallon (not like nitro which is $23US for a gallon) and there really isn't a lot of tuning involved

the only plus I see with electric is that you can run it in your neighborhood, and you have reverse...

That needs to be running on 8-12s lipo with a neu 22xx series motor, or the Castleneu 1717 motor atleast. The current power system is suitable for a 12lb emaxx, not a ~20lb baja...

@foshizzelman depends on the weight of the vehicle & how fast you want it to go. The 1717 is a good 6-8s lipo motor, in something weighing upto about 15-18lbs maybe, but the 22 series neus will blow it out of the water if you go upto 10-12s lipo with the right kv rating...

the car is from rcs racing live and kershaw designs makes some conversion kits for it, my car is at kershaws now having the kit installed . the conversion im getting will use two brushless motors and two 3s batteries to each motor (12s!!) i cant wait .

Personally i wouldn't buy the conversion as i am a complete petrol head! lol. I've only had my car since Christmas and already i am obsessed. However if you cant really afford it and don't want the hassle which sometimes comes with an engine then i would definitely buy it!

1: It is about 20-30LBS as it sits in the gas set-up, how much is the weight on it now with the electric set-up?

2: the shocks are ment for the heavier weight of the engine and other parts so they are alot stiffer, if it weigh alot less how to the shocks hold up? are they to stiff? 3: What are you looking at on run times with your neat little twin battery set-up?

I have the 80amp in my home made 1/8th truggy conversion.

The Baja 5B is a superb RC car, but many 'men' will say the noise is the best part! ;-)

I prefer the gas one. A 1/5 scale doesn't need alot of tuning. Just 1 time. It's start like a charm, like 2-3 pulls and it last 30min and + without refilling. the weight of the Baja suck a huge amount of juice from the batteries. If I would take a BL, I would take a 1/8 or 1/10.
