  • Hey you should use balsa wood for blades. They would be very light

  • @Redflashy14 Good Idea I did have one with some thick balsa blades I believe the video is called my first wind turbine

  • Your getting better at stepper motors dean. i do believe your the stepper motor expert. your a real tubinologist. keep up the good work.

  • @jeffmolly1 Thanks more stepper motor videos to come!

  • Excellent video Dean, I am also building a wind turbine using a stepper motor and currently researching for the best wiring digram on current generation, will even put a video on you tube myself once I learn how to, fairly new to this computer game myself, look forwards to seeing more of your videos, keep up the good work, regards Nigel aka Doc Cox

  • @MrNigel1340 thx

  • hey dean how much electricity do u get from the stepper motor at max rpms?

  • @RogueLegend999 its gives about 20 volts but only 1 amp

  • Whats up Dean, You really blow me away you are making a lot of us older guys proud. keep up the good work, by the time you buy a home you will probably never have to buy power..........One thing i noticed is if you tilt your blades up a couple of degrees you will gain more blade surface for the wind to catch, the wind almost always comes down at an angle to fill in the open spaces in your yard......great job dont stop get it get it..................LATER FROM THE WEST COAST

  • hey doug im in Florids (: right now so i wont be back by next week thx for comments see ya windchasers by

  • well donne dean

looks good, issues with the blades to sort out maybe try 3 blades instead of 4 and really spend time getting them balanced, they will start much easier and will make your mahine last longer, I still can't believe how young you are, and that you already have the bug, and are building these machines like us oldies, keep going buddy you have a great future ahead of you, see u @ windchasers, and yes Mr Ghurd is the man, if anyone can he can.

    cheerio

  • cheers humbertini900, i have fixed all that i found that the hub was heavy and a blades was a bit heavy too, there was a wheel that came with the stepper motor too so i put the wheel on(with an alan key) and drilled 2 small holes in the wheel ,got some small nails , and hammerd the nails into the the hub(plywood)

  • superb mate !!! glen hurd is a really nice guy.. vic @ gotwind website.

  • hey vicmeuck how are u, he really is a nice guy cheers

  • It is a wonderful wind turbine.

I am wishing a good wind to blow.

The wind doesn't blow here today.

  • thank you, same here im waiting for the wind to

  • nice job dean. those blades look nice.

what diameter of pipe did you use?

  • i love your one too its really neat to have the wires run indside i will try that to

  • HELLO DEAN Great job on the board. cant wait to see it go. i hope the wind doesn't give it too much turbulance. maybe you can run some wires inside for readings. that would be fun.

    MUDD

  • Smart idea, the only problem is what if the wires get tangled up when the turbine is piviting into the direction of the wind?

  • put a loose tie wrap at the bottom with another one to the rail.

    mudd

  • im not sure what kind of altenator it is it seams to measure no voltage when i spin it?

  • car alternators need electricity to make more. maybe the one you have doesnt have permanent magnets in it

    mudd

  • ok thats mabey i measured no volts

  • clean it up and lets see the in side

    MUDD

  • im working on it(:

  • You are our future young man, we need more engineers like you. Proud to make your aquaintance and hope you have a long career and follow your passion.

  • Thank you for your kind words i will take your advice

  • people like you are the bomb. good day and god bless.

    mudd

  • Thanks so very much muddymuddman(:

  • Looks good! Now all you need is some wind.

  • cheers sjh7132 you were quick to comment, hopefully they will be some wind tommow hows your wind turbine?

  • I'm a subscriber. :-) My turbine is still in once piece. I think this is a record for me. I think it's going on 2 or 3 weeks.

  • thanks i did not know you were a subscriber, i hope mine lasts lie yours what do you think of pvc pipe blades?

  • I couldn't really tell how yours are shaped from the video. It will be interesting to see how fast they go. Are they straight on the trailing edge and tapered on the leading edge?

I like using PVC for blades. I can cut a blade in about 20 minutes, and they seem to work well. I'm just not sure how fast they can spin before they break off.

  • yes there straight on the trailing edge but there is such an angle to them like 45 deggree angle on them

  • i did some Tests i found that the blades start up in 4 mph (due to cogging) the funny thing is that the blades at the end is the part that make them start up in low winds then , then at the beggining its at a 10 deggre angle makes them go very fast ,these blades are quite and are very good for stepper motors you should try stepper motors next soon i will make a vid on how to make a stepper motor wind turbine
