i think the cragga version is better i had it on in the car and my mom was like whoa i cdont remember it doin this haha u guys should all go check it out
My pop-pop had my dad burn cds of his music for him then he'd listen to them on his new cd player and this song was one of my favorites. He made me learn it and I sang it for him right there in the middle of the living room. ^_^ I'd always get better at it every passing year. And he'd be so proud.
people who say very bad stuff about carpenters, have a bit of respect for Karen Carpenter who was one the most respected and loved woman singer of hollywood.
@KingAssmar I couldn't agree more with you. This is what it's supposed to sound like, namely, a lovestruck teen age girl anxiously waiting for a letter from her boyfriend as if her life depends on it --- not a soulless rocker from a British group (Beatles) that knows nothing about this genre.
But the Beatles are my favourite musical act/group of all time and when it comes to this song, I got to say I prefer the Marvelettes version of Please Mr. Postman.
I Think it is because of the sound of it for it's time and just it's so much more originality when you listen to it.
This is one of those songs I used to go back and forth on.
I'm a huge Beatles fan, but I'm a huge fan of Motown as well. Ultimately, while the Beatles were arguably the greatest ROCK band of the early 60s (then all the other genres later on), you cant beat MOTOWN at the Motown sound.
Then again, I'm only 24 so I can't make a statement on impact, only what my impressions now are.
@madelyneee LOL are you stupid or something? this is the original version! the beatles copied it! read the facts sweetie: "Please Mr. Postman" is the debut single by The Marvelettes for the Tamla (Motown) label, notable as the first Motown song to reach the number-one position on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart. The single achieved this position in late 1961!
Like what Michael Jackson said, when you're going to remake a song your version has to be better than the original. Honestly, the Beatles' version of this was a bomb.
i agree, all three versions of the song have a different feeling. marvellettes had soul, beatles made the song sad, and the carpenters made the song happy. i personally only like the carpenters version though.
I played this great song over & over & over and your right about The GREAT Beatles, but you have to remember one thing, That the great John Lennon's vocal is great in The B's version. Just blast it & you will hear it!
bewaremylove if you prefer a pop version of this wonderful song, then I guess you will like the beatles version. But I prefer the funk and the grit that the GREAT Marvelettes give it as was intended.
Your right about The M's version, but I'm right that John Lennon has a strong vocal. The Beatles had Rubber Soul! (ha ha ha) Did you ever hear The Beatles cover of 'Slow Down'? I dare u to blast that one? I do wish that The B's played the 'Mr. Postman' live on their '65 tour. In '64 they played (the also great) 'Twist & Shout'.
I wasn't "blasting". But as I stated, they do good pop covers of r&b songs. They are not soul singers so they do not have that gospel feel, (which is the back bone of soul music) so they make nice pop covers of soul music.
Why do you HATE them? While I prefer the Beatles version to this, there's no reason to hate the Marvelettes because they did it different... And if they didn't record it, the Beatles wouldn't have either.
Liking the Beatles' cover is one thing, hating the original band altogether for no reason is just stupid. Glad to hear your opinion, but ichasedorlandobloom has some horrible logic.

This version is awesome, and so is the Beatles' version.
It's pretty obvious that John was imitating this singer's style, in his version.
I'm going to go listen to the other two versions now! lol

The Marvelettes give the song soul, as it was intended to have. Beatles were good pop singers, but definitely not "soul" brothers.
