Thanks Skalatka for adding this video. I think this piece refers to a place in Irak where 845 children were killed, am I right?. It really touches the heart!! Sameer is so GREAT!! He makes the oud speaking, crying, singing, laughing… Really amazing!! Yesterday, Sameer played in Madrid along with a Spanish guitarist and other musicians (cajoon & percussion). Simply unforgetable!!

SubhanAllah...this was deep...I just discovered him and he is creative and imaginative and expressing the reality of the innermost pains and tribulations.
Basically, if anyone dosen't know the story of Al-Amryia shelter in Baghdad, he/she will not understand this piece of music, it was very emotional... great music, long live Naseer Shamma.
i agree pedocarro, i intuitively knew what story he was telling and the details with his oud before i knew anything about the al amiriya incident.... i don't know how he does it, but he tells an amazingly vivid story so that a person who is only slightly knowledgeable of occidental music and it's melodic language can understand it perfectly.. this is definitely a testament to his skill.. at least in my mind!!!
Is fantastic, seems like he is telling a beautiful history and then something horrible happened. Naseer Shamma, he tells histories with the Oud; Incredible piece!
This piece portrays the bombing events that occured in al amiriyah. In his original piece, he included helicopters coming to the aid of the injured.this is called photographic music or "museeqa alsoura"
from 0:00-1:00 it symbolizes peace and tranquility. 1:00-1:15 symbolizes happiness and playful activity within the community. at 1:15-1:32 he repeatsthe same piece from 1:00 - 1:15 but with a slight sad tone that foreshadows that something wrong is about to happen.1:32-1:46 is indeed sirens going off. 1:46-2:02 represents widespread havoc and chaos. 2:02-2:26 represents bombs dropping.the rest is the aftermath of the event. everything is quiet and nothing is what it used to be.
his face, hands, tunes and smiles carry the agonies and miseries of his people and out culture! Not only has he joined older and greater Oudists in the Oriental hall of fame, he has managed to occupy the foremost position in expressing the people and their politics through his Music.
