This is real funkin' music right here!! Kids today don't know what what the hell they are listening to. I hate to be a part of a generation, who knows nothing about real music!
He damn near outFUNKED Parliament/Funkadelic back in the day... DAMN... I showed this to my 9 year olds and they were like what the FUNK Justin Bieber SUCKS daddy feed us more FUNK!!!
@ Salvation, about james brown you're kinda wrong, he's not only Funk, he started with soul, then funk, then hip-hop, the godfather of soul, rings any bell?
Anyone that bought the Stretching Out lp in '76 knows this jam was infectious & undeniable, plus it was around 7 minutes long. They REALLY don't make 'em like this anymore.
But the Funk gots to have Soul for it to be good. And Soul gots to have some grease, some Funk, to get across. One don't exist without the other. On the ONE, baba!
Funk has to have soul to it to be good - I can a agree very much on that but to a certain degree but adding soul to it makes it better but it doesn't make it more "funk" then you make it funk/soul or funk with a little sense.
@SalvationHasCome Obviously James had Soul. He even made a song called Soul Power. Also Stevie has plenty of funk. Arguing the difference between Soul and funk is splitting hairs.
@SalvationHasCome Stevie did funk too. Superstition and I Wish are straight Funk tunes. There are different genres of funk. There is JB funk, early Funkadelic funk (funk rock) and Naked Funk (Rick James, Cameo). Funk and soul are pretty much different sides of the same coin. Related like Reggae and Ska
One of my favourite Bootsy's Rubber Band clips. That bass guitar/keyboard riff really gets into your head (from 1:50 and 3:20) and the Horns are at their horniest. It's worth watching just to see Fred Wesley go "Woo!" (3:50). Wish I'd been there!

Wow, that's live funk! I love those clips, really live, not playback, not over-perfected, but with energy like this. Good stuff!
