It's a preference to crop ears but we shouldn't ban the practice due to the breed look. Mr Doberman created this dog with cropped ears and tail. Cropped ears should be done around 10 weeks old but any late or old dobes shouldn't be attempted. I prefer cropped ears I had 2 dobes and or present does cropped ears
If they have a legitimate working role(ex. police work or SAR) , you'd be a fool not to dock ears...if they're a pet, it's a matter of choice. I've rescued a total of six now, three of each. The (lack of) ears certainly does not affect their bred nature.
(I just think...how would I like to have my ears docked?)
What's with the attitude?!!? You can't crop or dock in the UK now. Personally I prefer the look of a docked Dobe but hey! As for the ears being cropped, I think the breed looks extremely alert and an awesome deterrent for any potential burglar, but it is a bit cruel to cut some of your puppies' ears off!!!However, the breed had this modification, want for a better word, due to their duties they had to perform,
but the majority of Dobes nowadays are family dogs love by their families and cropping and docking isn't really essential anymore. Saying that I'm ruining the breed is crazy, surely a healthy, alert, strong, intelligent and lovable Dobe is more important than cropping and docking??? If Dobes are needed for duties in the future, bring on the docking, but for now there is no need, plus Dobes with a tail can really run fast while navigating left and right!!
lagunasaxoxr2 u have a point but her doberman made this dog alert fearless and they can be funny but corpin ur puppy ears n dokin its tale it will only make it look better

Why does it always come back to the ears?!

uhh ruining the breed?? by not cropping the ears?? How sad is that!
My girl Dobe does not have her ears cropped (personal choice) and she's a true Dobe to the core. I wouldn't have her any other way!
Lagunasaxoxr2: great vid! my Dobe is wicked fast as well and it's a blast watching her!
