You know, that used to happen because lead poisoning looks an awful lot like death. The person would appear to be dead and then wake up a few days later. So, they used to burry the coffin with a string attached to a bell on the surface. If the person woke up they need only ring the bell and a watchman would dig them up. That's where we get the expression "Saved by the bell"
