Desmond Dekker was not the king of Ska (Price Buster and The Skatalites are the kings of Ska). He only made a few Ska songs (Honor Your Mother And Your Father, Get Up Edina, Mount Zion. His song "King Of Ska" is actually Desmond Dekker and Toot's and The Maytals (known as The Cherry Pies). And Toots totally owns in that tune. All Desmond's most famous tunes are Rocksteady (this tune, 007 Shanty Town) and Reggae (Poor Mi aka The Israelites. I remember Dekker as 'Reggae Legend'.
the tunes, the voices... just awesome. he and the aces turned me on to this genre when i was a teenager in the 90s. they're as good as it gets and their music will live on forever - RIP, king of ska.
Hi Bobby - thanks for the video response. In the UK, this was released on Pyramid in 1969 (as on my video), part of the Trojan label which so much great reggae was released on here. I notice your version is slightly different incidentally. Great to hear your sounds - I have some other classic reggae tracks I'm gonna post soon.
ive just found it and as soon as i heard i thought the the same sounds a bit different does any body know the Reason? as u markthe base ive got the uk 1969 Pyramid press!

For some reason this version is lacking the trombone and trumpet backing which is on the Pyramid version.
Anyone know the reason for this

The versioon you heard was the "cleaned up" version that was done years later. this is the original.
