This episode was gorgeaus! Smith is a genius...and before someone is going to disagree..I luv Eccelston. He was fantastic and Tennant was my first doctor, so there will always be a special place in my heart for 10 <3. But Smith is also brilliant. EVERY DOCTOR IS BRILLIANT. Of course they're all diffrent. This is the philosphie of Doctor Who. Everything will change and to be honest, this is the reason why this series succeded so much. So marry X-mas by the way, although it is july :-)

However I definatley agree that some of the writing was poor. We eithier had Steven Moffat giving us stupidly complicated episodes and if not we had episodes that for some reason seemd rushed and plain bad. I liked11th hour, Amy's choice, Hungry Earth/Cold Blood, The lodger and the pandorica opens.

@highwoodproductions I totally agree. Matt Smith doesnt make the best doctor. I felt season 5 was great writing in some episodes but rubbish in others. I enjoyed the new more sinister weeping angels whereas the episode the hungry earth did not live up to my expectations.
I watched it and enjoyed it - fascinating to see how the original Christmas Carol story was blended and interwoven with the futuristic scenario to give a real SF approach - even as someone said, a Star Trek look-alike bridge (and why not?).
Still couldn't make out a word that Amy muttered though - will have to wait for the DVD and the subtitles for the Hard of Hearing to discover what she was on about!

This was by far one of the saddest doctor who Xmas specials so far, and one of the best written. I didn't really like the ship falling part, too star geeky... But it was there for a reason. Overall I loved it. Matt smith is growing on me, but I'm still in love with tennant. I guess it will take time for the transition. Bad part is that once i have switched, he regenerates!
Sadly... i don't have cable.. and have not had cable in awhile.... so.. i think i missed it..*sighs*.. missing a LOT of episodes i'm sure... i do hope it's doing well though.

I LOVED this Christmas special! It made me cry, I never liked any of the past Christmas specials, they were pretty bad in my opinion (sorry David, it was the story not you). THIS year's Christmas special was beautiful, it was powerful and well written. Matt Smith is not such a bad Doctor or actor, he was wonderful this series, give him a chance and stop comparing him to David!!!

what's wrong with everyone??? was i the only one who thought this episode was UTTERLY AMAZING??? :D it was surprisingly refreshing. loved the set designs, the acting, and of course the story... and i loved the final scene with Abagail's song. but i suppose it's perspective. anyway, this episode left me with a special, warm feeling i can't really describe :) merry christmas ...halfway out of the dark ..

Compared to how dark and utterly screwed up David's Christmases were (lemme see, killer Christmas trees, robots with tuba bazookas, spiders coming from the core to eat all of Earth, and almost everyone dead on a Space Titanic), I have to admit, Matt had a lighter and still very good Christmas episode (despite the sadness you get in the last fifteen minutes).
This one was so bad it was funny. Ed Wood with more budget. "Mega shark vs giant Doctorpus". Ha ha ha ha. Put a smile on my fizzer, even if it was for the wrong reasons! :-)

people say that Smnith is bad as Dr who and Moffat can't write for shit, well all the good episodes from the previous years when RTD was head were all written by Moffat: The Empty Child/Doctor Dances, Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead, Blink. Hell, Blink was voted as best episode of Dr who. Hows that for Moffat as a bad writer? You RTD worshippers can go fuck some reindeers

@DRWHOFAN1986 Im a massive tennant fan but i've also loved eccelston, baker and davison but tennant always seemed to have the good plots and story lines based on every day life: i mean losing loved ones, finding loved ones and bringing people closer together in hard times :)

I hate reality TV like X-factor so I dont go on Youtube and watch clips/trailers of the show. I watch things that make me happy like DW.
