I study in Canada in Japanese. I show children of the homestay a diyellowtail work, but only this work does not want to show it in various meanings. I do not want you to know the war. The misery of the war was told by a grandmother and a grandfather and. I only thought that I wanted you still to notice what was performed in a country different in such a tragedy. Is it a pacific solution I know the war, and to notice a mistake and sorrow?
The tragedy of war... I have children... I have been in a war with too many civilian deaths.
However on 6th December 1941 Americans were drinking beer, dancing, getting ready for Christmas and thanking God they were not at war. Or should I say "tell this to twenty million Chinese, or Koreans, or Thais, or Philipinos, or..."
The movie was good but i couldnt watch more than once. It was an incredably sad story and it brock my heart. I rarely cry durring movies but i did end up crying durring this movie it was just depressing.
this is a anti war movie, not a anti america. why can't americans understand that? oh yea, thats right, they're civilians have never experienced the horrors of war. thats why they can praise they're military causing war crimes in about every war they involve themselves in. atleast japan learned from it and even made it constitution not to have a military.
AFTER I finshed watching it i kept laying on THE BED and being Sad and low for the whole day, Sub my channel for who loved this movie and i shall sub back
Imagine if they did a movie about the children of Nazi SS concentration camp officers, and it tried to make you cry during a scene when the children find out that their fathers were gunned down American GIs.
Praising Grave of the Fireflies as high art is akin to saying "Yeah, I would totally give 50 heil Hitlers while gassing a million Jews while defending Osama Bin Laden in court because I hate Jews and homos and wish America and all their homosexual creeds death. SEIG HEIL!"
For more REAL tearjerking anti war movies, I suggest Black Sun: The Nanking Massacre, Don't Cry Nanking, and Nanking. They are all films about The Rape of Nanking, Japan's holocaust in China were they committed genocide and rape on 80, 000 innocent men, women, and children buried alive, burned alive, and tortured in every inhuman way possible. These films of course, are all Chinese, Japan continues to deny these events and I bet many of you reading your Naruto books have not heard of them.
@TheTheDeclaration agreed. i guess the best thing this movie could try to convey is that everyone suffered during wars, especially civilians who weren't at fault for any of the war crimes. however, a movie like this would most likely overshadow what the japanese did to the chinese during this time, especially to the younger japanese population who know NOTHING about the rape of nanking from their history books.
For a REAL tearjerking anti war movie, I'd suggest The Men Behind the Sun. This movie about the graphic and horrible experiments that Imperialist Japan's Unit 731 conducted on poor and innocent political prisoners and POWs. Of course this film is not Japanese as Japan continues to deny their war crimes and continues to honor their war criminal scum. It's Chinese.
For those who didn't catch THE HUGE GAPING PLOT HOLE IN THIS HIGHLY OFFENSIVE ANTI AMERICAN FILM, let me elaborate.
It was not the Americans and their bombs fault that these children died. It was their OWN fault. Seita could have just swallowed his pride and lived with his aunt. He did not. HE RAN AWAY. HE WAS NOT KICKED OUT, HE MADE THE CHOICE TO RUN AWAY.
This nasty tries to play the Japanese, who were on the AXIS POWERS, as victims when the real victims were the Chinese and the Koreans.
@TheTheDeclaration *sigh* it's not anti-american. its anti-war. the truth above all is that war is ugly and unbiased (will kill anyone). no one, no matter where they are from or how "evil" they may be, deserves to suffer the brutality of war. the japanese suffered, but they caused suffering on others as well. they are equally at fault for their pain. everyone is to blame for war, and everyone suffers because everyone inflicts pain on others.
@TheTheDeclaration His aunt said that he and Setsuko were freeloaders and she couldn't care less if they went off to live in the shelters. Seito is already orphaned; he didn't any more problems like an aunt's admonishments.
Another thing: it's true that authorities in Japan have ignited the flames of war, but not everyone in Japan supported this decision. There WERE casualties in Japan, too. Don't get me wrong. I feel terrible for China and Korea as well.
omg this has to be one of the saddest cartoons I have ever seen and the sad thing about it is that this prolly happened during WW2 and continuing to happen in todays society
gosh. i watched this a couple years ago... it was in japanese and the subs were chinese... but it was still friken sad and i started crying just thinking bout it
I think that this film has traumatized me in a certain way. Everytime I here or see something that's related to it, tears come to my eyes unconsciouly...
In my opinion it is the most powerful movie that I've ever seen. It's one of my new favorites but I never want to watch it again, because the story is just too heavy and my chest can't contain the pain, over and over again. In the past, we hated the Japanese, but then again, there are innocent japanese civilians too that suffered like us.
during world war 2 we would of thought ah there japs who cares if they die and if someone on our side died it could effect a whole family 10s of hundreds of people but if we looked on the other side its the same so sad....Studio ghibli dont ever stop making animes
This was the best movie i ever seen.... i mean... it made me cry so much, when my mom saw me cry, she totally freaked out, but she didn't understand why.... Poor Setsuko.... and poor Seita.... seeing that Setsuko never woke up made me cry a lot, but when i remembered the beginning of the movie, when Seita died and the ghost of Setsuko came running worried for her Big Brother..... :''''( Its my favorite anime movie ever...
setsuko is the most adorable little girl in the anime world.. i laughed when she's happy i cry when she's sad but in the end it's break my heart into dust when she never woke up......
I believe there are Seitas and Setsukos right now in places such as Iraq and Afghanistan. I pray that they be given the strength to keep their chins above the water no matter how bleak their circumstances are.

So guys don't cry? Looks like you've still got some growing up to do......real men aren't afraid of their emotions, and Grave of the Fireflies makes many men cry. There's no shame in that.
@slitheen -- I've got some growing up to do?? I suppose to you men crying shows how "grown Up" they are. I am not afraid of emotion. I said I'm a guy and I didnt cry cos its harder for me to cry being a male. I don't find shame in men crying either.
Well certainly, young men...say teens to early twenties often feel they have to prove their macho nature. Later on in life, you get to the point where you don't feel the need to prove anything. Could you watch Schindler's List, for example, and not cry when you see the red coat? Personally speaking, I think there are certain films where if you don't cry, you're an emotional cripple. I'd rank Grave of the Fireflies among them. Watch it again.....let the tears flow! :)
@sausagenmuff ??? Let's for a moment suppose the audio wasn't removed, can you give an estimate of how and how much the company behind it lost money due to this short clip? And now that it IS removed, can you estimate how much the company raked in on profits, or how much costs they saved as a direct consequence of audio having been removed? No? Because it's fucking zero, that's why.
Damn the copyright crap, and dare I say it? Damn YouTube! I will love them again once they give up the strict shit. If this comment gets me banned. Then so be it.
Very powerful movie, however there should have been a spoiler warning in the title to prevent those who have not seen it from seeing the ending. Personally I knew before I saw it what happened and I feel a lot of the movie's impact was lost because I knew how it ended.
Why don't him go find a job?I watched the Japanese TV drama of the
Grave of the Fireflies which play by real people. The TV show is playing during the view of their aunt, I understand why she don't want to keep them in her house. The whole Japan is almost broke during their time. Their aunt is worry about how to keep the family alive, but the brother and little sister are keep taking away their food, annoying the people, and never try to help. I'm sorry but I just want to show you guys my view.
try to understand in the sibling's point of view..i mean..their parents are dead and stuff..they're all alone..ps..how old can the brother be ? as in to try to support him and his sister and hell there's a war wat can he do ?! his aunt is like the only kin..and i remember..the sibling did contributed by changing their mom's clothes for provisions..they didnt take the aunt's food or anything..but still..i can understand the aunt for disliking them at a period like so
i watched half of this movie cuz i didnt want to see the end cuz i was afraid that it would be too sadand i wass already crying, plus i watched it with my brother and he's 27 and he started crying
Humanity loves war and destruction just look at it's history for any indication and yet it still cries when shown images of wars realities.
Don't feed me the whole, it's our leaders fault bullshit all your doing is deflecting blame if you say that.
Wanna know how you take your name off of the slaughter? You actively protest and do what ever you possibly can to stop the violence. Otherwise you are a fucking sell out and that is all there is too it.
i never heard about this movie...it looks lie it have a tragic plot! terriblr movie in a good way... like waltze with bashir or persepolis... sad animation movie...
To make people think, sometimes it takes sadness to make you consider situations, to move you where laughter can not. Maybe to show that people we sometimes see as enemies are just that, people.
This is perhaps one of the most moving films I have.
haven't seen but this short film was enough ... if i first start seing a sad movie i can't stop ... and i am crying through the whole movie and are sad the rest of the week !! so this video was enough !! (:
i saw this movie a week ago and it is so sad. i cried the during the whole movie, especially wheb Setsuko died. this movie makes you think about how people suffered during the war
This movie is the greatest movie of all time. It seems as time goes on, movies seem to be more for commercial success, rather than to inspire. Such an inspiring movie this was, I am lucky to have seen it in my life. Although it may sound negative, it made me realize how spoiled we are nowadays.
i had lumps in my throat that i couldnt swallow and tears in my eye i tried to hold it but it just dripped out, this movie moves you trust me it doesnt matter who you are (man woman gansta macho or whatever) this is just heartbreaking :( I'll never forget this movie its a master piece
This was a really great film. It really sticks with you, that's for sure. Although i didn't like that it was so sad, and there was no real hope at the end. Still, great work considering it was made in the 80s!
Watch this movie but be prepared to have lots of tissues to wipe your eyes, it doesn't matter if you are a man, woman, old, young, civilian, in the army, black, white, yellow, brown, rich, old, liberal, conservative, gay, straight, YOU WILL BE MOVED.
You will be moved, that is forsure. This move is so so so heartbreaking. One of the best films I've ever seen. I am 20, almost 21, and still watch it a few times out of the year.
You don't understand the message here. Grave of the Fireflies here never mentions who the attackers of Japan are but we know who they are. And Studio Ghibi could have easily blamed the deaths of Seita and Setsuko but instead seem to blame it on the pride and honor that most Japanese were taught from birth to hold over all things that lead to much of the sick things that the Japanese caused during the war, the treatment of POWs being one of them.
Easily the saddest film I've ever seen. And I'm reading Film Studies at Uni. Lol. This isn't a sad film in the vein of The Notebook and Titanic. This is a genuinely heart-breaking story. I'm not even sure there are any possible positive emotions you can take away from it at the end... It's all depressing lol! In a good way though! Great film.
Worst trailer ever for one of the best movies ever. A trailer shouldn't spoil keyscenes in the story! Luckily I saw the movie prior to watching this... 1 star
god loves children there his favorite, and all of heaven goes into ecstasy , and they have the most resemblence to jesus christ the heavenly fathers son amen.
This movie broke my heart. I want to cry again just watching this, and I hardly cry at movies. It's a great movie.
To those of you posting ridiculous comments about the US or Japan, get over yourselves. Why does one side always have to be better than the other? Can't we just let it rest instead of calling each other dumbasses or acting like little kids? We should all be a little more mature than that, and I'm just a 14 year old girl..
Never cried so much for a movie EXCEPT for MAYBE "The Color Purple" but it's pretty hard to beat...

Its a really sad movie and I cried a couple of times through it.
But thats reality to you folks, this is what war does to us, no one really wins in a war, we all lose something.
Worst of all, its the civilians, the ones who have nothing to do with the war to begin with that are affected the most.
This is why we must prevent conflict no matter where and when, and learn from the past so that we can avoid it in the future.

Why is everyone Bitching. LOOK its COPYRIGHTED material.
I'd love to be able to watch anything too, but that's just not how shit works. deal with it
sausagenmuff 1 year ago
@sausagenmuff ??? Let's for a moment suppose the audio wasn't removed, can you give an estimate of how and how much the company behind it lost money due to this short clip? And now that it IS removed, can you estimate how much the company raked in on profits, or how much costs they saved as a direct consequence of audio having been removed? No? Because it's fucking zero, that's why.
jetaimemina 1 year ago
@jetaimemina
unfortunately there is no group of people that can "police" each video, so it has to be black and white.
Some clips such as this might actually INCREASE sales of a movie, but it's simply how the world works, and I for one am glad it does.

Very powerful movie, however there should have been a spoiler warning in the title to prevent those who have not seen it from seeing the ending. Personally I knew before I saw it what happened and I feel a lot of the movie's impact was lost because I knew how it ended.

this movie is too sad for me. I felt angry towards the aunt, the boy, the kid, etc.
It pretty much showed how war affected the lives of people there.
I hope I don't have to experience anything like that.

I'm sorry but I just want to show you guys my view.
yueimasaka2 3 years ago
try to understand in the sibling's point of view..i mean..their parents are dead and stuff..they're all alone..ps..how old can the brother be ? as in to try to support him and his sister and hell there's a war wat can he do ?! his aunt is like the only kin..and i remember..the sibling did contributed by changing their mom's clothes for provisions..they didnt take the aunt's food or anything..but still..i can understand the aunt for disliking them at a period like so

War is hell and that is all there is too it.
Otherwise you are a fucking sell out and that is all there is too it.

omegablue0 3 years ago 7
To make people think, sometimes it takes sadness to make you consider situations, to move you where laughter can not. Maybe to show that people we sometimes see as enemies are just that, people.
This is perhaps one of the most moving films I have.

This movie is the greatest movie of all time. It seems as time goes on, movies seem to be more for commercial success, rather than to inspire. Such an inspiring movie this was, I am lucky to have seen it in my life. Although it may sound negative, it made me realize how spoiled we are nowadays.

This was a really great film. It really sticks with you, that's for sure. Although i didn't like that it was so sad, and there was no real hope at the end. Still, great work considering it was made in the 80s!

Watch this movie but be prepared to have lots of tissues to wipe your eyes, it doesn't matter if you are a man, woman, old, young, civilian, in the army, black, white, yellow, brown, rich, old, liberal, conservative, gay, straight, YOU WILL BE MOVED.
amazingdany 3 years ago 5
You will be moved, that is forsure. This move is so so so heartbreaking. One of the best films I've ever seen. I am 20, almost 21, and still watch it a few times out of the year.

You don't understand the message here. Grave of the Fireflies here never mentions who the attackers of Japan are but we know who they are. And Studio Ghibi could have easily blamed the deaths of Seita and Setsuko but instead seem to blame it on the pride and honor that most Japanese were taught from birth to hold over all things that lead to much of the sick things that the Japanese caused during the war, the treatment of POWs being one of them.
darknight910 3 years ago 7
@GAFFTV atleast now they dont have a big mouth anymore to the western countries

Easily the saddest film I've ever seen. And I'm reading Film Studies at Uni. Lol. This isn't a sad film in the vein of The Notebook and Titanic. This is a genuinely heart-breaking story. I'm not even sure there are any possible positive emotions you can take away from it at the end... It's all depressing lol! In a good way though! Great film.
