  • I think you're absolutely wonderful, It's amazing to hear you play.

  • Congrats for both musicians! The beauty you express can and should be used as antidotes against the meaningless aspects of today's world! Beautiful! Inspiring!

  • Cool I got this as a solo this year.

    Looking foward to learn it

  • A truly lovely interpretation.

  • This may sound a bit strange but your facial expressions kind of remind me of Yo Yo Ma. And your sound is so beautiful!

  • What kind of cello do you have? It sounds beautiful!

  • WOW!!!!

  • va far in cueo....chi bruti cani dei to morti "Appassionato" de sto per de cojoni, date co un legno beo groso goldon!

  • 今度この曲弾くので練習に聞かせてもらってます!ボウイングも参考にさせていただきました。ありがとうございました!

  • Its a shame that this beautiful music only has 48,356 views while that Justin Bieber trash has over 300 million. This music deserves more recognition, because it certainly requires much more skill.

  • @CBCxMoNstAh i wouldn't sell justin bieber short. All music takes skill and dedication, while i cant stand his music, or his attitude i appreciate his musicianship.

  • I love your playing! amazing! Is cello your only instrument?

  • @Shrimpfriedricegirl Thanks. Yes cello is my only instrument. I do a bit of singing as well.

  • Isn't this song also known as "Tarantella"?

  • @Shrimpfriedricegirl nope. Thats a completely different piece of music.

  • His elbow looks high partly because of the camera angle. Since he holds his cello on a high slant, his right arm needs to be higher too meet the strings as opposed to someone who plays more in the style of Feureman or Piatagorsky, who have a very verticle cello with a relatively low endpin. The elbow needs to be high enough to provide an uninterrupted flow of weight from shoulder to bowhold.

  • hey! this is the first video of this i saw after i picked up the music. im using as an audition piece for the Allentown symphony in PA. i like your playing.

  • Your video has helped me so much prepare for my competition this year. Thank you so much. I'll tell you how well it goes. =)=)=)

  • My elbow is always that high, High five! Also, I'm doing this for my grade 8 exam next week, great piece.

  • I am a high school student and I love your playing. However, it will be more

compelling if you could interact with your accompanist. I have been being criticized for that in many school music competitions. No offence.

  • @rodneyleung Thanks. We try to listen to one another. Because of the video I have to sit a certain way and it is not easy for me to see him. :)

  • Awesome!

  • my favorite interpertation!

  • @Garrettguy457 Thanks.

  • What period do you predominantly play? It seems to me that you're more into Baroque or classical period pieces?

Also, you've probably heard this before, but your bowing arm seems really high. My teacher is currently trying to stamp out this habit in me in favour of a lower elbow with a 'sack of potatoes' tied to it so the weight of your arm is driving the bow.

And your lower strings sound quite harsh, are they strong or medium? Blue Jargers or Larsens generally sound beautiful on the bottom.

  • @blazingvirtuosity: If you look at the angle of the cello you see that he almoast tilt the cello to his right instead of his left, at least it is very flat, and therfor forces himself to the high right arm. Just a slight tilt to his left would make the differens, if one would like to have a lower arm.

@cellojourney: Thanks for posting all you videos!

  • Is it the angle of the camera, or does his right elbow look really high?

  • @blazingvirtuosity Not sure. I try to keep it at reasonable height.

  • @blazingvirtuosity I agree. He almost looks uncomfortable.

  • My friend played this for one of our festivals and she did great and she is a 7th grader.....anyways great job!!!

  • Ahaha, I used this song for an audition when I was 12 years old. I remember how it took me about a month to completely be able to sightread tenor clef.

  • i love this song just started looks and sounds harder than wat it its i think

  • no its really not its much harder than what it looks and sounds. i'm playing it tommorow

  • @Jeneworld it's in suzuki book VII if that means anything to you.. a lot of cellists when I was young used this for auditions into the youth orchestras.

  • try playing this piece on Bassoon its very difficult. But my favorite part is at the Poco meno mosso, its a very well written piece.

  • Im playing this song for solo and ensemble at the end of the month any advice?

  • wow ...

I also play this song at the moment ... it´s amazing ;)

  • Man They Are Good !!!!!!!!!

  • subscribed =]:

  • you are amazing !!

    its like cello loves you!!

    im a cello player too

and you play .. just.. like a god

    congrats =P

  • I really apprecaite that you guys discuss the peice before playing it, it really allows the viewer to understand the message, im currently learning this and what you said at the begin is something mine for sure going to try to express when I play this piece. Thank you and Great Job to the both of you.

  • nice i suk at staccato tho D=

  • I watch this nearly everyday xD

  • The 16ths before the recap are really crisp and clean! I love it!

  • I wish I could play like that.... I could, but it would take a lot of practice -.- I have small hands makes it kinda hard to play my cello D:

  • this helped me learn this song

  • i really enjoyed you cello journey!!

  • gosh.. you are awesome !

  • It's good that you talk about the origins of the piece and it's nature before playing it - i have to do a viva voce for my exams, and i couldn't find programme notes on it ANYWHERE! So thanks!

  • i just started playing this... your performance really helps me hear how its supposed to sound! so thank you!

  • why is it so staccato?

  • felicidades... congratulations!

  • like wow!!!

  • Well played... Although, at times, it looks as if you could be using more bow.

  • Yes. I agree. He looks a little bit tight.

  • woww its so much faster than im playing it.. i hope i dont have to do it that fast for nyssma this year...geez im nervous

    good job thats so amazing!

  • but i still love it

  • A great performance! I'm a senior in high school looking at this piece (I'm also thinking about Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch as well) and I might do it for regional contest...I haven't had a private teacher ever, though, because my family really couldn't afford it. This piece is a little difficult for me in some ways, mainly the string crossing (ugh) but my orchestra teacher, who plays cello herself, is going to give me help with it...hopefully I can perform this well. Great performance of it!

  • Good luck with it.

  • i really hope you don't mind my commenting but its much easier for me to hear it more clearly since im just listening and not playing it ;)

  • AGAIN! amazing as i expected :) but you shoul dhold the notes just a bit longer the ones that you emphasize on such as the 2nd note in the beggining of the piece

  • Awesome! You have totally captured the soul of this piece. Love it!

  • I'm played this sing for my 7th grade section leader audition. I played it really nicely...but my seat was less than nice. Lol. But I loved playing this song. Too bad I lost the music...

  • oh my gosh...aaah i'm going to die playing this piece, i've only been playing for less than a year and my teacher just handed this to me monday and says "okay, this is an awesome piece, play it for me."

    ???????????????????????????????????

    awesome playing btw. :D

  • this is my tenor sax district piece awesome video helped alot with feel

  • Hey I used to comment on your videos a lot, and now I'm back! :) I love this piece, I'm learning it for as an audition piece and I've been searching on youtube for this piece so I can hear different interpretations of the piece and I love how you play it! I really learn a lot from watching other people play it. This is so much fun to play. :) Beautiful job! Thanks!

  • Thanks. Great to hear from you again.

  • how old are you? :].

    what are you auditioning for?

  • I don't think he's auditioning for anything. He's only playing a piece for us.

  • i think he was talking to lalobaloo =] obviously luke isn't auditioning for anything.

  • this songs not that hard if u've played it for 4 years and u've been practicing other songs well, then this song wouldn't be that hard to master -0- just practice

  • Beautifully played !

  • beautiful.. my school's first chair celloist played that song.. :].. u guys are so protistic XD.. go piano and cello :D

  • nice job... your tone is awsome, how long have u been playing this piece? it took me about 2 months to get perfect.

  • i just played this @ my big competition in Ellensburg and did really well. yahoo! :D

  • Sounds great. Congratulations.

  • how difficult would you say this peice is?

just by watching i would say not very, but one never knows.

i've been playing alomst 4 years and am considering takeing this up as my festival peice, is that reachable?

  • This piece is actualy more difficult than it looks. It's not musically hard, but if you are not used to play in front of an audience, it may be difficult on some parts. 4 years is variable. I know one kid who played less than 3 years and is already playing this quite well musically as well as technically.

  • Im doing this piece as an audition piece! yay! its really fun ^.^

  • Good luck. I hope it goes well.

  • This is a very interesting piece indeed. I hope you can play the elgar and the boccherini concerto soon. Maybe Saint-Saens. There are so many pieces I want to hear!

  • My teacher doesn't want me playing this piece though I like it because she states that it doesn't teach me anything that is not known already except to rush more, which is a big problem for me in the Haydn Cello Concerto in C

  • i also have you guys on my ipod! this ones my favorite.

  • Honestly, Ive been avoiding practicing this piece, because i never really liked how spastic it was, but this was really inspiring, my teacher might be happy... :P

  • hey guys great job from a fello cello player! very nice on the speed and rythms. the tono quality was amazing too and your spacings were just right. very good on the dynamics and everything else! keep it up!

  • Lovely attack and interpretation! I'm working on this piece right now and this is helping me a lot.

  • just one thing though--minor tonality does not necessarily mean it's a "sad" piece. This never struck me as being a melancholy piece at all.

  • At some parts it does seem melancholy, especially in the piano. And at other parts it seems rather upbeat and lively, hardly melancholy piece at all...but yeah...^.^

  • that whas great, too bad your a-string refused at 3:20

  • I'm currently working on this piece...you play it really well! it's lovely. :] good job!

  • how many people would tell me to leave if i said the cello is a nerdy instrument?

im just wondering... i dont really think it is i just want to know

  • I don't really know. Never really thought of it. I don't see how it's nerdy. \:(

  • HAHAHAHA! people who think it's nerdy are hilarious--it's so obvious they dont play an instrument and are jealous of those who CAN play! ^-^

  • Both parts very clear. Thank you!

  • you should do his cello concerto no.1 in a minor

  • I am currently working on this piece. This was a very excellent recording of it. Keep making more episodes!

  • Thanks. Have fun playing it.

  • ahhhh im still trying to perfect the 2nd page.... T.T

  • thank you so much for all your played songs. I played this one before, but not as fast as you did. I'm not that good.

I also played Gabriel Fauré's Sicilienne. Loved how u plaed that one.

    Thank you again

  • Great Job! Bravo!

  • ahh im learning this piece rite now...

    i sound really bad

  • what an awesome ending!! i am learning this piece at the moment, is the ending your interpretation of the music, cos my music has slightly different rhythm - unless im reading it wrong of course!

  • His rhythm sounded right to me :P. Can't believe it's been 5 months since I first saw this! This piece has soo many different interpretations and there is not "wrong or right." It's basically you pouring into the piece and mixing with it, then playing that through your cello. Each performance is unique.

  • Great bow control, really uplifting interpretation! =)

  • nice

  • very very cool! you are a wonderful player, well done.

  • what a lovely piece!! *

  • nice job..!!! i love this piece...!!!!

  • very very good, different than how i interpret it but i like it.....its interesting though it looks as though we have different bowings and its so odd for me to watch because i keep thinking no no no bow the other way :p

  • WOWOWOW!!!

  • I really love this song! when i played this a few years ago it was a real challenge and i enjoyed it.

  • I just received the sheet music to this today! a real jump for me in level as the last 'hard' piece I played was Schumann's Phantasiestucke No. 1...

  • Daniel - Have fun playing it.

  • very nice job.. I had the chance of playing this piece last year with my teacher but i regected it... and now I play it by myself... is quite easy and fun to play now but back then it was at my level and a challenge. I didn't know it sounded to so cool with a piano and all .. I like it alot now.

  • Neat that you are playing this too.

  • wow amazing! im playing this right now and i totally despise the part at around 3:30. totally hate it. but if i can even play half as well as you play this then i shall be very happy. nice job!

  • this is wonderful!

  • i ♥ this piece

  • cool. im working on this piece too. my teacher says "memorize and refine!" where can i get a recording of the background piano/orchestra so I can play with it?

    Good Job btw!

  • in the music I have "suzuki book 7" the triplets around 2:28 are all on one bow. It's stupid hard, but a cool trick. Also, I have heard versions where after those triplets they go up to the second octave D on the A string. Anyone know if that's a different arrangement?

  • You just made me do a little jig.

Dang. Seriously, you'd make good money if you put out a CD. I'd buy it.

I'm working on that song. But I play bass, so I'm only doing a bit of it. To about 2:32.

  • you realle live in the music, as i see you playing i just feel the music. I love what your'doing!

  • Wow, you're so in the music! The song totally swallowed me into another dimension.

  • I'm playing this piece too,but i always get the start of second page and the last 5 lines mixed up =_="

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • WOW!!!! i'm playing that piece and I hope to play it like you!!!God! I didn't thought it was so fast!!!but congratulations

  • I think the beginnings are pretty cheesy, you should just play

  • LOL! You guys just made me yell "bravi!" at my computer screen. What finesse!

  • wow... that's awesome

  • Someone else commented but you can put out an album and seriously make a lot of money. Not many people can play the cello and you can rock the house. Everyone loves the cello and we all love listening to it. Seriously consider the idea!

  • That cadenza section was especially well done. Congrats !

  • Let us know when it is ready.

  • Thank you for all the comments.

I am putting together a DVD. It should be available some time soon.

  • I always love to listen to you.

  • Bravo! I loved your playing and I especially love that it was a Camille Saint-Saens piece.

  • Horay. I did this piece for my alevel recital last week. Now you only have to do kol nidrei and all the big three are done. Great stuff.

  • Ross is growing a beard !_!

  • That was fabulous! And, as always, I enjoyed your comments too. Thank you.

  • Sorry for a repost but are you considering releasing an album anytime soon? I'd really love to buy it to tribute you for all your work!

  • gorgeous
