@Zach014789 Puts a nice stroke on it, difficult to miss both the 4 and the 6 on the way up table - then again, missing both, the scratch in the corner pocket looks pretty inevitable, and in order to make the cue ball bend around the 9, there's not much choice of speed. Not really a matter of luck or misfortune, just the way he decided to play this. Maybe he expected to brush the 6 on the way back?
@LeonFleisherFan No, Sir. Rackem Zackem's comment is correct. JJ stiffed the cue ball trying to avoid everything including the scratch. The Slope bucket 5.5 inch pockets vacuumed the cue ball in. Had JJ got out there it would have been 10-7. JJ would have been better than 75% to win the match from there. PS..on a shot like that at that distance it's impossible to make an accurate hit as well.
@Chuck5903 But it TAKES an ACCURATE HIT and the CORRECT SPEED with the right amount of follow and inside spin to make the cue ball bend around the object ball, hit the rail at the right spot, come off that rail to avoid running into EITHER object ball by a QUARTER BALL'S WIDTH! A well-executed shot, but one that I'm certain Jeremy knew takes him right into the direction of the corner pocket with speed - he just hoped the force follow would SLOW down the cue ball more. No matter of "misfortune"!
@Chuck5903 The point is, people use the words "luck" and "misfortune" (or lack of luck etc. & etc.) too lightly, instead of recognizing that what happens on the table is a DIRECT CONSEQUENCE OF THEIR ACTIONS. One can expect a superior player, e.g. a pro like Jeremy, knows the difference between a lucky and a bad roll better than the average guy. He didn't get unlucky there, but misjudged the cloth/the effect of force follow and would have needed a lucky roll to keep the cue ball from scratching.
@Zach014789 Actually, no: Jeremy's pointing out the line with his cue before he shoots, and fights the drift in order to avoid the 6 - he knew exactly what he was doing, and trailing several games, took a little risk there.
JJ's shot at 8:30's was so nice unfortunate scratch.
