@aningloriusjew the m1028a1 is SUPOSSED to be a dually.....i dont know if he converted it back to single rears of he didnt put the right number in the title......the dually had an extra 800 pounds rated payload capacity
Whats that tire and wheel combo. I have a 78 k20 with 285 75 bfgs but looking for something different, also would like to find a steel wheel like you've got
this was a cool truck i believe it had a 4l80e adapted into it. or maybe it was a gearvenders on the back of a th400? not sure . but but it had a 6.5 turbo diesel. i saw pics and video back when it was for sale for some reason or another they didnt have the front driveshaft in it so they were just 2 wheelin but hey i liked it
well, they say with only a 3 speed auto (idk why the used them) and the 4.53 rear u run around 3-5,000 rpm at highway speed. they have 4 and 5 speed manual transmitions you can get in them (the 5spd costs way more then the 4 speed + the instalation cost too) and you can either get a 4.11 rear or just use 36's and youll drop the rpm and get around 20 mpg. and you can also get some kind of bolt on kit for the 6.2's to get more hp and mpg. they are tough trucks though ill tell ya what!!
What else would they use besides the TH400? the 700r4 wasn't living behind carbed 305 gassers and the TH350 wasn't legally rated for the torque output of the 6.2, the GVWR would have been way lower if they put any otther trans in them.
The military trucks were all speced with 6.2 J-code, TH400, and 4.56 gears in a 14bolt FF rear out back with a D60 up front. Detroit lockers in the rear some had limited slips in the front but very rare.
@MiracleMileV8 The reason thay cant go fast is the 4:56 gear and turbo 400 trans my m-1028 is lucky to do 60 mph but it will out pull most anything around.
Beautiful M1028. I believe it has dana 60 up front and corp. 14 bolt out back, nick named the 5 quarter. They dont get any more durable then that baby. For you guys that want one, for about $2500 you can buy one at auction from uncle sam, but it will cost some $ to get it close to as nice as this one. I have a rusty M1009, that a use as a winter beater, great trucks.
I belive the stock tire size on a CUCV is 33x10 on a 16.5 inch rim. The ride height appears to be stock. Those trucks have plenty of ground clearance because they are millitary trucks. They were rated at 1.25 ton. Basically the equivilent of an F-450 or a Dodge 4500. The difference being that a CUCV is rated "cross-country" , it's intended to carry 1.25 tons through almost everything. Very tough trucks.
How much?

With a stock cucv truck with the stock 6.2 and 4.56 gears and a TH400 tranny, about what would you say is the fuel economy on that truck?

Canadian CUCV trucks were offered with 350's.

@gasjocker19: Too bad many of them can't even hit 80 with only 150 hp. I still like them, though ;-).

I had an 84 you can only fit a banks sidewinder turbo on it. It is a dana 60 up front and a 14 bolt in the rear with a detroit locker.

The 6.2 Detroit Diesel was not a "POS" You have it confused with the horrible GM Oldsmobile 5.7! This is a common mistake.

so what motor was that under the hood? definitely not the 6.2L POS
CanonNinja 4 years ago
ive got a 6.2 with 237,000 miles that outpulled a new chevy 5.7L uphill at 9,000 ft elevation in colorado.. so POS? i don't think so.
