What I don't understand is if the life boats were able to drop the first batch of people off at the shore and then sit there and watch for a fews hours as the ship sunk and other passengers were still trapped, why couldn't the life boats go back and rescue more people? I'm sure in the four hours it took for the ship to sink they could have made several more trips and and saved hundreds if not all of the remaining people...

The first thing we need to know is how this accident was even possible using all the modern navigational safety measures, the ship would automatically avoid bottoming out on rocks or going off course in the middle of the night, for no reason , no one could enjoy viewing the Island in darkness, and the ship could hit small vessels in the night ,being off course, it does not make sense it was even chanced for entertainment, It was night, it was unsafe and tons of equipment would prevent it

It was the dark of night, no reason to please passengers with a closer view of the shore line, and the full crew had the efficiency of modern navigational equipment. GPS SONAR Ocean Floor Depth sensors, it is literally impossible for an accident unless the computers were hacked into, or the magnetic north pole shifted without notice, as it did last year in Tampa Florida, or someone did this intentionally. Even if the Captain was insane, the Crew would know they were off course 4 miles.

Cruise industry needs to revisit ALL procedures, regulations and rules regarding the nature and proceedures when and how ALL crew and passengers are compelled to undertake safety at sea knowledge and practices. Short regional cruises on large ships with very large passenger numbers at the start of their voyages with large and new untrained or partially trained inexperienced crew focusing on the business happy go lucky nature detract from the safety aspects.
