@RyanJRA64Abella because i think defrag compensates for you not putting up a dedicated server. if u set up a dedicated server, then join it on vq3 u will be able to do that jump easy. i dont understand why this is the case but it is.
A much better tutorial is to goto clanarena . org --> click on videos then watchthe 'hot video' in full screen, it's decent quality. It shows alot about the movement along with commands. Suitable for beginners and decent players :D
You need a mod called Defrag. You can display loads of different options on your hud. I only ever played it on localhost so remember their are recommended settings for that to get 125 fps
if you type /info it shows all the things you can enter into the blank 'info type' settings.. just put in the number. If you goto CHS then click through the menus i think the second or third shows the arrow display. When I started playing i didnt realise there was more than one page to each menu selection :D
well done \:D/ if you use lightmap, you will see a shadow which is a good spot to do the circle jump. Many people have sensitivity too high to dont get good control. If you turn the mouse smoothly along with a good jump, then the second one will be alot easier
Ok. After reading all the comments I think most of you that trash everything about vq3 are fucking idiots. I play CPMA Promode I do. But I still love OSP vq3 gamestyle, If its so easy all of you cpmers. Why dont you play Fox in both modes se if you win?
And to the guy in the video. Defrag dont have the orgiginal movement. Its not the same as when you play CPMA or vq3. Its just based on it! So the jumps are much easier in defrag.
ye. it can be done on normal q3 the same. Defrag is used to display the extra info like key presses but i probably only enabled these when playing back demo (they can be distracting if you are familiar with the movement). Important thing is you have a stable 125 fps i think. I ususally have low detail and stuff as my pc is crap
God, the half step is easy as pie. To say that vq3 is more strategic is just silly. The more options you give the player to work with the more strategies they can come up with and utilize. It's less fun because it's more like realistic human movement. Realism wrecks games. Makes them easier to learn and play. It's one of the main reasons most current FPS games are awful.

wow, you showed us the easiest trick in any quake DM map in the history of the series. Why is it that all you noobs that play vq3 think it's movement is so freaking hard or adds a new level of skill to the game. QW/CPM movement all the way. I prefer being able to dodge shots mid air, and have movement that adds to the strategy, not makes the game easier to aim and more predictable.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
seriously dude, you can't tell me it really took you that long to be able to pull that off reguraly. I learned that jump on day 1 of owning q3. Vq3 movement is incredibly easy if you're coming from q1 or promode, which I started q3 with.
If the physics is way below your standards of dodging shots well that doesn't bother me, because I'm usually messing around in defrag maps, for fun. Maybe one day I will learn to dodge shots in mid air, or since you are so passionate maybe you can teach me?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I just don't get why everyone in the Q3 community seems to think that it's movement is so skilled. It's very very basic and easy to time. The vq3 defrag maps are boring and simple because it's movement is so basic. The defrag CPM maps are fun and make you have to think much more creatively than the vq3 maps do.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
my first quake experience was with q3 and vq3, and i would say its simpler then cpma, however i find mid air rocket shots easier with cpma as the target moves slower in the air, you almost hang on the air. i am however crap at cpma movment though i love its style.. just never played it much.
ps bridge to rail is the first jump you learn on pro-q3dm6, and it is done badly on this vid.
is ur Gspeed higher then 320? cause when u regular walk on the line its much faster then regular, but ne way, i still cant strafe jump after watching ne of ur videos, even though most say they tought them :(
No it's all 320. If its higher then you'll just overjump the ledge. I think the circle jump is the important thing as you have to quickly turn on the ground then press jump at the right time. I do the circle jump a bit slow or it looks like that on demo.. you might find it easier if you flick the mouse fast near the edge so mouse is pointing straight ahead then if you land on the edge of the bridge you can flick it to the right roughly pointing at the little ledge thing and try nd land there.

Seriously, if someone really needs any help learning how to perform this jump then they should just quit playing Quake now. Vq3 tricks are the most simplistic and easiest to pull of in any of the Quake games. It's the most "set" movement in the Quake series as it allows for the least amount of freedom and creativity in how one moves around the map.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Meant to add this below, theres many other reasons that Vq3 lacks the strategy of CPM. Stackable armor = easier map control. The game displays an on screen seconds timer for christ sakes, so no noob has to learn to time in his head. The timer is just awful.
Yeah, you proved yourself a complete moron! Thank you xD ! What is shown in the video is trivial, but to say you don't need skill for defrag in vq3 is, well, laughable.
There are plenty of maps (not the basic defrag maps) that are hard to complete in defrag VQ3. So, if you think you're übercool, post videos of what you can do, not comments pretending to be that. And while promode is cool, just remember that there is some nice stuff you can do in vq3 that is not quite possible in promode.
yeah, name one thing you can do in vq3 that you can't do in promode? vq3 players bash promode so much because they tried getting into it couldn't handle the learning curve so they decided to trash it for being some stupid mod instead of just accepting the fact that default quake 3 was designed for new players unfamiliar with quakes style of play.
and thank goodness you can't. overbounce is the most retarded trick ever. only there on certain points of the map, does nothing but propel you in the air which in vq3 is the last place you want to be since being in air = easy fucking target. even utilizing the strafe jumping in dm or 1v1 makes you a very easy target, so it's either move slow and be able to dodge or use movement and be easy as fuck to hit. ID totally fucked up q3.
If you're talking about playing a real game then overbounce would be bad. If you're talking strictly about movement and trick jumping overbounce isn't retarded at all. While I love to play promode as it's very similar to QW physics and lets you do lots of cool new things, it's extra tricks remove a lot of the precision and finesse required by VQ3 physics.
I have never been able to do this jump, but after watching this video I got it within 10 minutes. Thanks a bunch!

distance changed

it's not the distance that changed, it's the physics. In QL you gain speed more easily from strafe jumping, like in cpma.
