Most mixed people in my town were half Mexican or of Hispanic heritage yet mixed- Half Spanish and half Ecuadorian. I had friends of every ethnic group. Some people thought I was Indian. Someone told me Egyptian. Another thought I was half Thai. Only Northern Filipino kids made fun of me...

I'm a pure Filipino who has lived in 2 places besides the Philippines, and I always talk about how proud of being Filipino I am. None of my friends are actually my friends until they know about my Pinoy Pride.
And in my case it's the other way around because people are the ones telling me that they think I am Spanish or Venezuelan or Mexican because of my Long Spanish name and they also tell me that I look only half Asian rather full, which I am.

Be proud of your Filipino heritage and background. Arabs and Chinese traded with us and brought their beliefs and culture to us here. Spanish, Americans, Japanese tried in vain to change our culture and our race by colonizing us, but we remained as BROWN and as Asian as anyone in other Asian countries could be. It would be foolish in the eyes of our Creator to be what we are NOT.
I was born in the Philippines and when I went to school there I was taught that Phillipines is an Asian Country, south east asian to be exact. I don't really know why people get it confuse with Pacific Island. . . ?

If both parent migrate to America and get their citizenship that child is an American. In Hawaii I know some like that. Some negative associations come with being a certain ethnicity here and filipinos get it a lil worse than others in my opinion. So that being said. Sing and dance is what they like most instead of thinking what they can do and offer in their country and be competitive with neighboring countries. There's really no "pure-blood" Filipino, since we've been mixed-bloods long before the Spanish came. We have a little bit of Indian, Malay, Chinese, and "Aborigine". Then the Spanish came.. the Dutch.. then the Americans.. then the Japanese. We are all mixed-bloods one way or another. For me there's no such thing as a half-Filipino. Being Filipino is in a sense a way of life, a way of culture. It's either you live as one, or you don't.. You have a choice, and you should not be ashamed..

I don't think Filipinos in general are embarrassed of their ethnic background. In fact, I see an increasing number of Filipinos who are becoming more proud of who and what they are since there is a rising number of positive role models with Filipino background especially in the (U.S.) entertainment industry.
My little sister is half, and she always tell people that she's half Filipina, but no one would believe her, because she looks like a total little white girl, but she even tries to learn how to speak Tagalog. My cousin is half Mexican and he totally looks like a total Chicano, and I always see him sporting a PACMAN of a shirt w/ the Philippine flag or islands on it. My other cousin is half white and looks like a Mexican, but she can speak Tagalog fluently I dnt thnk any of them r ashamed.

I am a mom and i realize that a lot of what i say to my kids about my being filipino will affect how they perceive themselves to be until they get to that age or should i say maturity that they can figure it out themselves. be proud of being half-filipino! go to the philippines the first chance you get and get out of manila and go to the countryside where it has not changed and immerse yourself in love and friendliness.
Hmmm weird ya im a half filipino and half german kid living in canada. People either assume that im full caucasian or a little spanish... and I am pretty embarrassed of my filipino side probably because the culture is just way to different for me to understand and really follow... So I dont really like to relate myself to them but thats just me :P

I really don't get why you say you can't relate to them, because for 1, Filipinos are heavily influenced by the Spaniards with their language, customs, and mannerism which happen to be European, and you're half European yourself :-) Second, compared to other races, Filipinos are probably the most open and comfortable to mingle with people of different cultures.

Most mixed people in my town were half Mexican or of Hispanic heritage yet mixed- Half Spanish and half Ecuadorian. I had friends of every ethnic group. Some people thought I was Indian. I'm a pure Filipino who has lived in 2 places besides the Philippines, and I always talk about how proud of being Filipino I am. None of my friends are actually my friends until they know about my Pinoy Pride.
And in my case it's the other way around because people are the ones telling me that they think I am Spanish or Venezuelan or Mexican because of my Long Spanish name and they also tell me that I look only half Asian rather full, which I am.

Pride is something you give yourself, not something you take. Not hatin' or anything, but some "loyalist" groups in Iran are proud to blow themselves up. Some Americans are proud to blow an Iranians head up. Why can't a Filipino be proud of his being one? No matter how meager his achievements are, say Boxing Belts etc, he has the right to be proud.

I am 100% Filipino and I hate it because of what most Filipinos do and act when they are in other countries. Plus most Filipinos do not think rationally and always would like to have fun every time. Sing and dance is what they like most instead of thinking what they can do and offer in their country and be competitive with neighboring countries. Filipinos like to be sentimental all the time and and not trustworthy in many aspects particularly in business.

There's really no "pure-blood" Filipino, since we've been mixed-bloods long before the Spanish came. We have a little bit of Indian, Malay, Chinese, and "Aborigine". Then the Spanish came.. the Dutch.. then the Americans.. then the Japanese. We are all mixed-bloods one way or another. For me there's no such thing as a half-Filipino. Being Filipino is in a sense a way of life, a way of culture. It's either you live as one, or you don't.. You have a choice, and you should not be ashamed..

In fact, I see an increasing number of Filipinos who are becoming more proud of who and what they are since there is a rising number of positive role models with Filipino background especially in the (U.S.) entertainment industry.

My little sister is half, and she always tell people that she's half Filipina, but no one would believe her, because she looks like a total little white girl, but she even tries to learn how to speak Tagalog. My cousin is half Mexican and he totally looks like a total Chicano, and I always see him sporting a PACMAN of a shirt w/ the Philippine flag or islands on it. My other cousin is half white and looks like a Mexican, but she can speak Tagalog fluently I dnt thnk any of them r ashamed.

If anything people believe im from a hispanic descent...which I am not, I do speak tagalog so so....but I hear it all the time from everyone that I am totally 100% american....and I am not ashamed as well as I do support Pacman as well. yeh i know of a guy who is filipino but has light skin and could pass as a latino lookalike from la u know the ones u see in gangs. he says hes half filo half, spanish. could he be full filo but because he doesnt look full filo, says hes spanish as well. is he not proud of being filo and light skinned? do alot of other filos do the same. maybe he is half spanish cause of colonialism , like u see alot of australian aboriginals not full blood, most of them unless u go up north. thanks.

I am a mom and i realize that a lot of what i say to my kids about my being filipino will affect how they perceive themselves to be until they get to that age or should i say maturity that they can figure it out themselves. be proud of being half-filipino! go to the philippines the first chance you get and get out of manila and go to the countryside where it has not changed and immerse yourself in love and friendliness.

People either assume that im full caucasian or a little spanish... and I am pretty embarrassed of my filipino side probably because the culture is just way to different for me to understand and really follow... So I dont really like to relate myself to them but thats just me :P

I really don't get why you say you can't relate to them, because for 1, Filipinos are heavily influenced by the Spaniards with their language, customs, and mannerism which happen to be European, and you're half European yourself :-) Second, compared to other races, Filipinos are probably the most open and comfortable to mingle with people of different cultures.
