  • Impressive and yet boring?

  • Quick question - What's the deal with the partially submerged building around 1:00 into the video?

    Cool videos, though.

  • Yellow sub dived At 2:13

  • You say "your Flying Sub." You didn't carve it out of a block of wood and then mold it did you? Those tail fin tops need a trim to be correctly level in side view.

  • would have looked nice sitting down on the bottom with the grass too

  • If you know where i can get one of these please let me know @ peuhayd@yahoo.com. please put attn:mike in the subject... my dads a long time fan and he'd love one of theses to death! even if theres assembly required. ty

  • Hmmm, waited all video long for the 'flying' part

  • @DonQ151 it's the Flying Sub from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea TV show.

  • @mdurwin OIC, it's just that I thought it actually did fly. Didn't realize it referred to the design.

  • 1:06 under water house ???? W.T.F

  • It looks cool but would bb great fun if it can go fast.

  • CAN IT GO ANY FASTER?

  • fly it

  • how much did it cost

  • Thanks I knew I knew that ship.God | feel old.

  • Isn't that a model from a 60's tv show?

  • @gaintwist32 Correct. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

  • Is it possible to install a camera inside it - one that will transmit the footage "live" to say a laptop?

  • @Verradonairun Yes. Have tried that and it works thought the live footage is very choppy. A 2.4 Ghz signal does not penetrate the water very well.

  • @bcliffe3055

Is 2,4 GHz the only frequency that can be used, or is it just specific to the camera that you used?

Thanks for answering, I appreciate it ;-)

  • @Verradonairun 2.4 GHz is the "typical" frequency of wireless security cameras. Video is a high bandwidth appication so typically requires a shorter wavelenght (higher frequency) to transmit.

Typically longer wavelenghts (lower frequency) penetrate deeper into water.

To transmit "live" video from underwater you need to either float an antenna to the surface, or use an cord attached to the sub, much like an ROV.

  • @bcliffe3055

Thank you for enlightening me. I suppose I'll have to check out the ROV. :)

  • @bcliffe3055 I wonder if you could rig up a snorkel antenna with a little float to keep the antenna above water.

  • @bcliffe3055

900mhz would work much better for a video feed.

  • those pumps sure are quiet! would be great for scaring ducks >:D

  • Where was this filmed at?

  • @othur In the St Lawrence River, Ontario Canada.

  • flying sub what???in the video there are 2 minutes of BORING SUB!!!

  • @MrFrenchFucker Did you really expect to see a Flying Sub? Really? It's from a old tv show from the 60's. We are just surprised that the model actually works. The actual one did not.

  • @MrFrenchFucker: Nice name there pal.

  • it seems a little bit boring.....

  • Very nice model !!

  • awesome!

  • looks like a futuristic bionic manta-ray. I FRIKKIN LOVE IT!

  • Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea! I'd forgotten about the flying sub! You should search out the old theme music for this: doo-doo, doo-dum... (A bit dreary, but it would sure bring back memories.)

So... when do we get to see it fly? 8-)

  • What a fun hobby.

  • thats so awesome it looks like a stingray

  • I would rather mine look scale right in the water. But I would like to get a little speed up on it now and again lol. I looks Great!

  • What would you estimate it at in Miles per hour? May 5 Mph. I looks simply Fantastic.

  • @othur Probalby a touch slower then that ... perhaps 3 MPH. I know folks that have installed jet drives and the model can literally jump out of the water.

  • That is just Awesome! What scale is it?

  • @othur The hull is 16 inches ... works out to about a 1/28 scale.

  • I know this sounds dumb but is this a salt water planted pool?

  • Who cares about the damn camera, what the Flying Sub model?

  • @Falcon7001 The Flying Sub is a 14 inch fiberglass hull powered by 4 mini bilge pumps. You can see a mini build log on my website .. simply google FS1 and bcliffe together to find it.

  • Where did you get the camera?

  • @judsonIappIy I have several. This was shot with a Sea and Sea DX2G with wide angle lens adapter.

  • @bcliffe3055 thanks!

  • nice job, it looks great, loved that show when I was a kid

  • It looks much better than it did on the show.

  • where do i get one?

  • @Matthew1027 Well these really aren't store bought, something you need to build yourself. Google "bcliffe FS1" for some more info.

  • @bcliffe3055 if ONLY it had FPV - I could design some neat underwater OSD for depth and rudder position as well as pressure ( etc ) .....nice work man!

  • this is just too cool, well done, and a couple of places looked every bit as good as the old show shots, i added this , again well done!!!

  • loved move and tv show.

  • Nice!

  • The sad thing is hardly anyone here remembers what show this is from.

  • @dlmarti Yes. I get notes saying "But it doesn't fly??" At which point I have to explain the history of the name and the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

  • @bcliffe3055 Ive never seen the tv show but i can still say you did an excellent job wit this rc. What did you use (motors servos body construction)?

  • @Inklebonker1 google bcliffe fs1 to find a build log.

  • we all live in a yellow submarine...

  • What propels it. Jet power? Is the intake on the top? Really cool model of the Flying Sub. I wish they would do a remake of that show ha ha ha

  • @ludeman So the sub has 4 mini bilge pumps to squirt water. The set up is 2 forward, 2 aft with the aft pump hoses controlling the depth by adjusting if they point up or down.

The 4 pumps operate independently so you can go forward, backward, or spin around without moving.

  • nice

  • lol i clicked on this vid to see if it would fly!!!! xD

  • Sweet vid and great model of the Flying Sub. Loved the show as a kid. Did you scratch build the Flying Sub?

  • @TS7019 Thanks. The fiberglass hull itself came from Rick Teskey, the rest of the model was scratch built.
