I used to have to wear a dosimeter in my military occupation. They checked them periodically. I always figured, ok, so they test it and find out I received a lethal dose. A lot of good that fucking dosimeter did me.
@Nathan1097 I think you're being sarcastic... but you shouldn't be. The instructor/ briefer is right. If you're a soldier on the GROUND during a nuclear attack, you will probably be vaporized or crushed by the blast or burned to death. Radiation really IS the least of your worries.
