  • For your information, the name of the company is GM Holden Ltd. and it is owned by General Motors, a US company. It is a subsidiary of General Motors since 1931.

  • What's with the bullshit about Pontiac building this car? Pontiac designed this, Pontiac designed that!!

The whole damn car is designed & built in Australia. It is a rebadged SS Commodore converted to LHD, with the HSV spec engine & a few design alterations (all carried out by Holden).

A bullshit review that gives no credit to the REAL people & company resppnsible for this car. "We built this car in Adelaide, Australia." You didn't build shit. Holden built it.

  • Woooooop. I have this car :D

  • im going to get me one used. best pontiac ever made

  • beautiful car

  • BLAH BLAH BLAH!!! God dang it, it's got a god dang corvette engine in it, I wanna see it spin sum tar!

  • Gah, damn that comment made by ford fans. Stop gathering fans from holden/pontiac.

  • this is cool

  • Nice car. That's alot of horsepower and torque. For a modern V8 engine, that's alot of both bhp and torque. I particularly like the fact it's an Australian car at heart rather than an American car. A good blend of both style and performance in one package. It's quite a contrast to cars 40+ yrs ago, where they did more styling and less true performance. Tastefully styled. I like that in a car. If I were in the market for a new car, I'd buy this one.

  • Come on this car was designed and built in Aus and all Pontiac did did was put that ugly front end on it. if you want to see what this car should look like check out the E2 Clubsport R8

  • jeeeeesus a 180 speedo

  • Jesus just drive it

  • This car is hideous.

  • cheap looking bmw another copy cat damn you american bastards fawk you all in the ass

  • @bimmerdrivin07 it's not a american car!

  • @bimmerdrivin07 ya well you can go choke on a polish sausage you nazi motherfucker

  • @bimmerdrivin07 Get that bimmer out the shop yet?? I'll take this muscle car any day over a bmw that i see every 10 seconds

  • This should have been the GTO.

  • @Albee213 Did Pontiac ever make a GTO four door?

  • @Mechknight73 No, but the one they sold a few years ago was horrible looking and I like the idea of four door muscle cars becasue I want a useful car that is comfortable, the goal of orginal muscle cars weree to be functional cars that were fast and looked aggressive. 60's cars were desgned to be two doors, making them four doors looked terrible, now they desng most cars to look good as four doors and I think 2 doors are impractical. I gre up in 60's 70's cars and love'm but hated the back seat

  • @Albee213 GM Holden took the idea of the Rambler Gremlin and got it right, in the form of the LH and LX Torana. They were a small (think slighly smaller than Chevy Nova, 1970s vintage) but were powered by a 308. Ford Australia had the XB and XC Falcon coupes (Think of the black Interceptor from Mad Max) and they were losing for both weight and handling, and they had 351 Clevelands

  • worst color they offer?

  • congrats GM make Make the G8 then kill pontiac... but.. do I smell the next Gen impala here? :D!!!

  • @StevoElsupremo correct me if im wrong but i think a new chevy caprice is taking the place of th g8

  • @alexeddy79 They're two different cars based on the same floorpan. The new Chevy Caprice is the Holden Caprice, which is a long wheelbase VE Commodore, aka Pontiac G8. It's meant as a luxury car, even though it can outcorner a 5-Series BMW

  • @StevoElsupremo Would be good if Chevrolet could take a hint and make the Impala RWD again. After all, the current Camaro borrows its floorpan and suspension from this one

  • Poor man's M3.

  • Wise man's car. Do you know how much it costs to service an m3? dumb ass.

  • @shlubby Exactly what I said. It's for poor mother fuckers who can't afford a M3. Also, service is covered for 4 years/50K miles. American cars are shit.

  • @fraud66 Well its Australian and only homo's and yuppies drive M3's in Australia

  • @fpvshitsonhsv, you dumb fuck. Pontiac is owned by GM. GM is an American company. I don't care about the homos and yuppies in your country. This G8 and all Pontiacs are shit cars. You got any more to say about M3s?

  • @fraud66 So its a shit car because it costs less than an M3? I never knew thats what qualifys a good car from a bad one. So the Corvette ZR1 is complete shit to because it costs 1/4 of what a Ferrari does and yet it can beat it in a track race or drag race? I mean really dont compare the M3 to the G8.... How about the M3 is a shit car because its a poor mans Cadillac CTS-V.

  • @fraud66 you are fuckin retarded this car is Australian the only thing american about it is the engine thats it period and this car is half the price of an M3 and on top off that if you took the money you saved and did some work under the hood (turbo, cai, cam etc.) it would shit all over that faggot ass m3

  • Interior is butt ugly

  • 0-60 4 secs????? bullshit

  • @eddieparrasuper bullshit as in too slow, or not accurate? it does push 0-60 in 4

  • Someone tell me why the hell the g8 didnt sell, i can see why the gto didnt sell cause its not too agressive looking, but this has the whole package, looks, performance, quality materials, yet no one bought it

  • @way2fasts It's unfortunately obvious. Everyone knew Pontiac was going to die.

  • @epluribusunum0 But a company going under dosent explain why the car didnt sell. Yes Pontiac might have been doomed, but their last cars the solstice, gto, and g8 where at the top of their game, yet none really sold

  • @way2fasts

Just because something is incredible doesn't mean it sells. Would you buy a new cell phone from Verizon knowing nothing would come near it for several years, but also knowing Verizon would die in three months? What do we care? We, the people who appreciate it truly can buy it cheaper and enjoy a piece of INCREDIBLE history before it becomes a piece of history. It's the greatest drift machine in history. That's my claim and I'm sticking to it. I know I REALLY want one.

  • @epluribusunum0 I totaly understand, the same thing happened with the GTO's and that allowed me to get a killer deal on an 04 a few years later cause no one wanted the cars. Now I have an awsome road and drag car, the only thing I am really pissed at is there will be no more pontiacs, and I love the brand even though most of there last cars were rebadged holdens

  • @way2fasts Good job on getting the goat. I really like those cars and it pisses me off they didn't get the respect they deserved. They will become collectors items, tho. Although i'm not getting another vehicle for a while, i would love to get my grubby hands on an 05/06 black on red 6-speed!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @way2fasts it didnt sell because the non gt version of the car is pathetic and not too many gxps are actually out there. if the holden gts was exported to the u.s. it would get alot more hype than the g8

  • @way2fasts There seems to be a lot of people in America that don't seem to understand that a muscle car can be subtle, instead of "smack you in the head with a 4x2" blunt. Especially in the fact that a muscle car doesn't have to slide round corners Dukes of Hazzard style because it has steering/traction/handling issues. Australia has been making muscle cars that handle for decades

  • @Mechknight73 Ausi muscle cars were different from the begining though, our muscle cars had big blocks and ausi cars dont, that to me excludes them from "American Muscle Cars". Maybe it was a bad things for the Americans to have big block engines becuase we didnt care about handling. Great hadling cars are cool but light to light power is what you can really use on the street. Where I live you go to jail for driving to fast but I can jump light to light and kill many Jap imports!

  • @Albee213 Although never underestimate the acceleration of a Holden 308. Back then it was the biggest Australiam made V8, but when pitted against typical muscle cars like the Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird, they tended to lose, not just in a straight line. a 1971 HQ Holden Monaro coupe had an optional 350, but even with that engine, it only weighed about 2900lbs. They could do both; accelerate and brake from light to light, and power around corners in a way that a Camaro would hesitate with

  • aweeesome pontiac swan song

  • lol he talk like he designed the car but wait he's not australian. what a joke.

  • would have bought the gxp if it came to canada

  • this is a wonderful car. i've had it for rental, took it down to LA from san francisco. did just fine. quiet interior, comfy ride, although the steering is a bit heavy and tight, it's just good.

  • nice holden, great cars

  • i woulda bought one if they didnt kill it off

  • i am a holden man at heart .

and this is a nice car real nice .

aussies build good cars and if you think this car is nice well you americans should check out the ford f6 all so australian built .its a turbo charged inline 6 cyclinder engine makes more power than your ls6- 6.2 liter engine and shits all over the holden built g8,,but ford australia do not export to usa. :)

  • @450hp202turbo

you have to help us americans sneak some over! it kills me that those arent sold here, people would go nuts.

  • @dugiv yeah i recon did you do a search on F6 typhoon ,, check that thing out

all aussie built inline 6 turbo over head cam .forged pistons and rods steel crank

standed internels capable of of 1000hp . you guys would love it ,,

  • Only problem i see is that the inline 6 is a homegrown motor and that production wouldnt be able to keep up with demand in the states.... A problem Ford would like having.

  • @450hp202turbo

    I wish they did!

  • @450hp202turbo they will mate when they need to update the crown victoria for cops.

  • @phantomloita the crown vic is going the way of the ancients in favor of the Dodge Charger, which, so far, has had a less than stellar service rep compared to the CV.

  • @450hp202turbo,

    You are talking shit.

The LS6 is not 6.2 litre, it is 5.7 litre.

The 6.2 litre engine in the HSV GTS E2 is 325 kW, 15 kW more than the F6 Typhoon.

The F6 is not faster than the GTS. The 0-100km time for the GTS is 4.9 seconds, and 4.96 seconds for the Typhoon.

  • @79HZGTS the LS1 is GM's 5.7L.......

  • @khdude2000,

The LS6 is also 5.7 litre.

  • @450hp202turbo yea but like the naturally aspirated engines a little better

  • Does the ford f6 typhoon sound like a v8? who cares how fast the typhoon is. The fastest you can go is 110 in Australia. I personally think Fords are the same as Holdens, but, Holdens look better. That's a fact m8. I barely see a new Ford out on the road. Why is that? because they look shit m8. I had a choice to go with an fg xr6 or a Holden ve sv6. I choose the sv6 because it performs well enough and it looks better.

  • @shlubby The F6 Typhoon outputs a traction-breaking 270kW of power, the same as the HSV , but a heady 550Nm will silence those g8 fans who are crying the virtues of General Motor's new 6.0-litre LS2 V8 with its 530Nm

With a recommended retail price of $58,950au, the F6 Typhoon will have one of the highest torque outputs of any Australian made 4-door sedan apart from Hsv W427, and is available exclusively with the new close-ratio Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission.

  • @450hp202turbo Ford have crap styling though. The only good thing about a Falcon is they have better gear box. If Holden get ZF it will be bloodly perfect.

  • @450hp202turbo That's great! But still... GM > Ford

  • The reason GM hit bottom is because they try to operate the same way as they did in their heyday. Trying to run a bunch of divisions that basically sell the same damn car. You can't do that nowadays, its just too expensive. It was only a matter of time that they would have to streamline to compete. It had little to do with unions and exec bonuses. Saturn was a great addition at first but in the end they wound up selling the same cars as chevy, pontiac and even gmc. Could not last these days.

  • Pontiac hit a home run with this one. I know its a holden but that doesn't matter. cobalt and g5 are the same car, does that make any one less a chevy or poncho? Hell, a camry and lexus ES are the same damn car yet nobody bitches about that!!! The Japanese get away with it all the time but the Americans can't. We live in a country filled with hipocritical assholes. This is a great car that we as americans should be proud of. Its obvious you knucleheads have never been overseas!!

  • @donnis618

Looks like you don't know much about cars. The Japanese do not get away with anything, look at Toyota.

And a better question would be, are there many people who consider the Japanese cars better than the European cars? No. You don't see a lot of such people(In fact, I am one. I believe the Japanese and the American cars are far better than the Euro)

German cars are not that reliable, but do people complain about it? No.

  • @NakedSnakeBlGBOSS actually, i know alot about cars.. One or two incidents doesn't change things. I'm mainly talking about the media (car mags) and the brainwashed fools who read them. I agree with the german cars but that kinda proves my point. I think american cars have come a long way. Actually, it's hard to buy a "bad" car in 2010/2011.

  • @donnis618

Oh, and that one incident affected Toyota/Lexus...A LOT. It even damaged their reputation and sales number as well, how is that NOT changing?

Car mags? I don't really see them rating the Japanese cars that good. I mean, one mag did a comparison test with Porsche 911, Corvette, Lotus and Nissan GT-R, and they put GT-R, on the lowest. But how is that possible? And it seemed there were some racist comments against Japanese as well.

And yes, Porsche won that one. Well?

  • @donnis618

And when GT-R was out, the people complained about the "Warranty" issues as if that is like the biggest issue. Just do not turn off the damn launch control and you are fine, but people kept complaining about it.

Do you see people complaining at Mercedes-Benz Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley or Rolls-Royce for a damn "warranty" crap? I'm just sick and tired of all those hate against the Japanese cars. When people make fun of certain cars, first, American cars and then Japanese.

  • @donnis618

    It usually goes like this,

"Oh, American cars are plastic piece of shit. They only go fast in the straight line, and can't make a turn. The American cars are gas guzzlers and too crappy."

    And then,

"Japanese cars are econoboxes. Look at garbage Prius. And it pisses me off whenever I see a fucking Honda fag trying to pass me. I mean, Honda? Get lost. And Lexus sucks, it's way too soulless."

    And then,

"European cars especially German? are the MASTERPIECES."

    *sigh*

  • @NakedSnakeBlGBOSS I know what you mean

  • @donnis618 or the Acura TSX is the same exact car as a shitty Honda Accord. Agreed.

  • @donnis618 The sad thing is all of the GXP line cars Pontiac made didn't save them. Give it some time and people would know how good cars they are.

  • your camry with a nice small v6 that weighs who's engine weighs how much less then it's engine that probably makes up for the 14ft by it's self let alone the 60-0 is done on factory tires.

  • It's still better. Pontiac died for a reason.

  • Yeah it got bought by the worst vehicle makign company in the world (GM) bought them i love toyota don't get me wrong i drive a pontiac vibe. (incase this doesn't make sense go F yourself lol.) But this is still a good car but for price you can get a much better performance or a much better luxury not many better in performance and luxury though. all depends on what people like.

  • did you see the Cadillac CTS-V?

  • They really think 400hp is great in a 6.2 liter engine ? In europe you get cars with 2.4 liters that give 550 hp.

Sure.. I know.. americans will go on and on about reliability. But really.. Anything less than 100 hp pr liter in 2009 is just embarrasing and lazy.

  • 2.4 liters at 550 hp is a motor pushed close to its limits. 400hp out of 6.2 liters is not trying hard at all and can be pushed to 1500hp and more. So your comparison is a sad one.

  • Now where was the logic in any of that.

  • A large engine not trying hard is more reliable and offers more in the way of racing applications across a wide spectrum of disciplines. There is also the better downstream after market angle for owners. There is also the ability to use one large engine in many different vehicles from a 4 door sedan to a truck to an RV.

  • @Janusha this one does not have forced induction. If you want, you can safely bolt a supercharger to this engine and achieve 600+HP

  • I know.. It seems performance in USA is left up to the tuneshops rather than the car factories. Like the Mustangs have always been simply a base for home improvements. Different cultures. In Europe a car is "finished" when you get it and any tinkering or tuning, fitting "rims" or whatever will only upset its balance. Australians have always been into american cars tho :)

  • Australia gets the benefit of both worlds. Often high performance with European design and Japanese quality. The most common compact car here would be the Corolla or Civic as compared to the Golf or Focus/Astra, but even then, spend a bit more and you get a large car (produced quite cheaply here).

  • Whats the link between Holden and Pontiac / GM ?

I read reviews saying the new Pontiacs were good cars.. I was pleased but surprised that GM could produce anything decent in these times of crisis (or otherwise)

  • Holden is a brand owned by GM however it operates with a lot of freedom. We're allowed to benefit from technology and engine sharing (such as the benefit of the Corvette engine) but also give a lot back such as the development of the High Feature GM engine (used by Suzuki, Cadillac SAAB and Alfa Romeo).

In terms of chassis, development is done here. Basically, the Commodore and it's variants are similar to that of a BMW 5 series, but more simpler and cost effective to produce, but still fun/RWD

  • How is Holden doing now in these times ?

I know GM will seperate themselves from as many external brand names as possible because it would be political dynamite if Obamas billions will leak into europe and other countries.

  • Holden has been a key asset of importance and value to GM due to it's contribution to GM. For the most part, Holden has been relatively unscathed from the issues effecting GM as a whole. While Suzuki, SAAB, Opel/Vauxhall, HUMMER have been sold off and Pontiac and Saturn killed, GM has been committed to giving both Holden and Daewoo strong futures.

  • Another problem contributing to the demise of Pontiac is these greedy dealerships charging $10,000 to $20, 000 over the MSRP. I was just on a dealers site that want's $51,000 for a GXP that already has 7,000 km on it.

I've noticed the same thing with the 2010 Camaro SS.

I've got nothing against a dealership turning a profit but they could do it ethically.

  • Not to sound like some religious freak but I can say the demise of Pontiac has nothing do with poor sales and everything to do with globalization and bringing forth the New World Order. This has all been premeditated. Everywhere I look I see Grand Prixs, Grand Ams, G8's and so on. If GM would have authorized Pontiac to revive the Firebird it would have probably outsold the new Camaro and GM would have made a mint.

This is all New World Order bullshit perpetrated by a few greedy fuckers.

  • @robertkurt2

You can believe whatever you want about the NWO, but it has nothing to do with pontiac shutting down. Pontiac was an unhealthy brand that has a performance history. It takes more than just brand loyalty to turn a profit. A successful vehicle must draw in new buyers. A majority of pontiac's creations in my life have been nothing but rebadged FWD vehicles. The G8 and Solstice have been the only thing that exhibited performance. The G8 is a holden, not a pontiac.

  • This is all about greed and power. Yes I am aware that G8's is a Holden. But everywhere I look I see new G5s, G6s, Grand Prixs, Bonnevilles and much more so no one can tell me that sales were suffering. If poor sales were the case than why then didn't GM/Pontiac listen to their customers and give them what they want. For years the majority of Pontiac fans and customers have been asking for things like a new Firebird and a RWD Grand Prix. But GM chose to blatantly ignore us.

  • @robertkurt2 "Everywhere I look..." is not empirical. If a Pontiac is "Everywhere I look...", then is Toyota "I don't have to even look..."? Regardless, the health of business is not so much related to how many vehicles are on the road, but rather what did it cost to put those vehicles on the road. The cost of funding Rick W's jet is chump change compared to the cost of competing brands that together had no decisive and unilateral goal as to how they should participate in the market.

  • @jrs89. You pose a good argument but sadly this boils down to greed and selfishness. Good business practice is to give the customer what they want and to give them good value for their money. The demise of Pontiac didn't have to happen. I'm sorry if you disagree but I still believe this was all premeditated just like the so called "world financial crisis".

  • I also agree with you that it takes more than brand loyalty to turn a profit. But how much profit is needed? Is it necessary for GM execs to make million dollar a year salaries so they can fly around in Lear Jets and send their kids to private schools while the rest of us struggle to make ends meet living off of Kraft Dinner and barley scrapping our monthly car payments together? What about these greedy dealerships charging way over the MSRP just because they can?

  • @robertkurt2 If you took all the money GM executives made and sprinkled it around evenly, the improvements for everyone would be marginal. How much profit? That's up to stakeholders who capitalize GM. Execs make more because they're competitive and in demand. There are exceptions to that rule. The lear jets actually make an exec more productive. The benefits outweigh the costs. Not everywhere in the world is there a commercial int'l airport within 20 miles of a destination.

  • @robertkurt2 So called greedy dealerships charge over MSRP because they can just as you can refuse to buy it and go somewhere else. It's called a market equilibrium. If everyone wants the one ZR1 at dealer they'll compete and bid up the price. If no one wants an Aztek, the dealer will be forced to sell the car closer to its cost.

GM's main faults lie in how they operate as a business and less so their reputation of making bad product. They did not efficiently use their capital.

  • Just because a dealership can charge a ridiculous amount over the MSRP doesn't mean they should. This is a contributing factor to why sales suffer and I strongly believe car manufacturers should put a cap on how much over the MSRP a dealer can charge.

It is possible to run a profitable dealership and be morally ethical at the same time.

  • The consumer still has a role in the market. It's not like Camaros are perfectly price inelastic. They don't have to buy a Camaro. Dealers will try to charge as high as possible, consumers will try to pay as little as possible, and eventually the price will end up in the middle. Obviously extensive mark up can hurt sales, but no dealer wants a car sitting in their lot for six months, so they'll cut the price. There is demand for Camaros, consumers bid the price upward and not the dealers.

  • Also jrs89 these dealerships also only ever have the top trim models in their show rooms, why never the base models? I like the new Camaro. The base V6 MSRP here in Canada is just over $26,000 and the top trim 2SS V8 goes for $41,000. I went on the GM Canada site and spec'd out a 2SS with every possible option and the amount came to $49,630. But what are dealers in my home city charging for the same car, even ones that are used? $58,000 to $69,000. That's absurd, people cant afford that.

  • The Camaro is hot car and the enthusiasts engage in bidding wars for the loaded 2SS models in the showrooms. The notion of people not being able to afford a loaded $40k+ car does not bother me. Even the base Camaro is by no means an economy car. Part of the reason dealers charge far over MSRP is b/c people pay for it. If they want to make a sale, they'll haggle and they almost always do. They set the price high for the suckers who fail to realize the true value of the car and pay the mark up.

  • This past spring my dad bought my sister a new Malibu for 16k in cash. The sticker price was a little over 24k. An idiot would enter the dealer blindly and pick out a model they like and the dealer would probably invoiced the vehicle at 25k. A dealer will never sell a vehicle lower than than absolutely have to just as a consumer will never pay more than they absolutely have to. Unless the consumer expresses that, the dealer will take advantage of that.

  • You can speculate all yuo want why GM failed.. The unions, healthcare, pensions, greedy dealerships, overpaid executives.. There is no getting away from the fact that GM has pushed shit cars for several decades and the entire american car culture has been kept artificially alive through their steady sale of pickups and the government crisis aid. Until it collapsed in the worlds largest bankrupcy. They did it all themselves. Ran it to the ground.

  • New world order... HAHAHA funny.

  • Why does Pontiac have to be terminated.

  • i was never... never a fan of american cars... but this... not because its technically Australian made... but this is quite amazing. 20 grand less than the lexus isf with around the same amount of power, practicality, and it looks like a guy's car. i'd be sold if i wasnt paranoid about their reliability. someone correct me on that plz.

  • So this faggot is saying is that the gxp only have 19" wheels and a differnt chaet bumper and thats call the gxp whoa and thats 4000 more than a g8 gt fuck that i just get me a g8 gt.

  • I own a M6 GXP same color as this one. About 18 cars made like it. Anyone know what happened to the car in this segment?

  • this vid was totally hot, but it doesnt beat my vid

  • I talked to a chevy dealer. I'm told Pontiac sold the rights to the G8 to chevy. Its going to be rebadged and sold as the Chevy Cavalier. For 2011.

  • go read wikipedia u idiot

  • Reports in Australia state an export deal may be close for Police cars. Only heard this yesterday, and they are talking 20,000 G8s'. The G8 may not be dead in the US yet.

  • BREMBO regna!!

  • 4 doors ruins the car

  • Went to check these out at the dealer--- no more are available. But I am told that engine will be available in the next generation Impala with rear wheel drive.

Too bad its a nice looking car , and Pontiac has always been classier than Chevy.

  • Are you serious? Or smoking crack?

  • lolololololololololololololololololololololololololololololol! dumb fucker

  • What's wrong with you people? It was designed here and it's basically an Australian car with Pontiac badges, so I don't understand why that guy was talking the way he was.

  • what a knob. Holden spent more than $1bn designing this car from the ground up so when your driving your 'pontiac' just know your driving one of the best cars in the world from the best country in the world.... idiot

  • woah woah, lets not get angry. I have been waiting for years for you Aussies to let us have a go in either these of one of the Falcon's. How is that 4 liter straight 6 turbo that they make over there? I feel like it is a crime not to export it. Maybe they don't b/c they could never fill all the orders!

  • Another Holden Piece of Rubbish: I was the unfortunate owner of a VXR8 and from the day of purchase from Holden as a custom order, 80k AUD purchase price, 4 years of amazing design defects, 4 motors, and traveled 40K in 4 years. nearly 2 years of hire cars from holden and AVIS. Problems from Paint, trim, engine, brakes, camber rear, shifter hitting dashboard, gearbox, diff seals, squeeky dash, front and rear bars not aligned bla. Good Looking car, mechanically SHi&. Never Never again. BEWARE!

  • The front end looks like a cheap bmw front end-ish.

  • My dad just bought one and he loves it!

  • I'm pretty sure he does...but, I know, he wished he saved his money for the new Ford TaurusSHO now, huh? Lol.. ;-)

  • the SHO is an AWD 6 cylinder twin turbo. A far different setup from the G8's rwd corvette engine.

  • Ahhhh..., is that excuses I hear, grasshopper? ;-)

  • Just saying they are very different cars (the SHO & this). I'm happy with my 350hp mazdaspeed 3 for under $25k. no excuses needed

  • 350hp. with a sup'd MazdaSpeed 3? That's not bad...but, Mazda have a rep/ of losing to it's competition.

  • dunno what your talkin about. in its price / performance range mazdaspeed 3 competes against stuff like honda civic type r. Everything else in its category is underpowered so its compared to cars $10k+ more expensive and still holds its own.

  • Yeah. Maybe for a used MazdaSpeed3...but, a brand new version cost around $23k....so, that's right in the area with, the 300+hp'd. V6 Chevy Camaro, Hyundai Genesis Coupe and, Mitsu. Eclispe(in which are very high speed competitors)!

  • I may be going a bit blind - but the Mazda site did not even list a 2009 Speed-3.

They probably had so many turbo problems the zoom , zoom boys gave up, and concentrated on mini-vans , copied from the dodge caravan no doubt.--- all those damned mini-vans look the same running down the road full of noisy brats and women in curlers and cell phones, making corporate decisions about garden vegetables and desert. Nuke em all.

  • BklynJayl. I like the list of cars you came up with. All of them 2 doors with no real back seats tho. the only other fwd car on your list, the v6 eclipse gets 17mpg ( i can get up to 30 in town) and handles terribly! For versatility, speed, pricing and pure driving fun. I still think the speed 3 wins its category.MS3 FTW!

and to millwright... the 2nd gen speed 3 came out in 2008.5 the 2010 one is out now. and the k04 turbo has been used by Audi for years and is very reliable and fast spooling.

  • I'd take my Cobalt SS Turbo any day. Love the speed 3 but it costs too much more money than the SS and the new one looks like a goofy retard smiling. I hope you have an older model. That was the one Mazda did right. And people, please stop bashing the speed 3 and cars like it. I know it sucks that little 4-cylinders are taking over but either jump on the wave or get out of the way. V8's are dying with each passing year.

  • well as far as i am concerned the camaro and vette and mustang and charger and challenger those cars will never loose the v8

  • I hope so, don't get me wrong, if I could afford it a V8 would be nice (they sound sexy) but with the exception of the Vette and the Mustang I don't forsee much in the near future. I think the Stang and Camaro will disappear for awhile until they can engineer an even more efficient V8 power plant. V8's in any event will only die temporarily. Engineers can do so much these days it's hard to judge.

  • Ya the new t/c cobalts are much better than the old s/c. But i dunno what your talking about speed 3 costing more than the cobalt's, the sport version of the ms3 was actually cheaper than the cobalt ss MSRP of $23.5k. definitely like your no lift shifting feature and having a boost gauge stock. But LSD as an option only?! should be stock. The close ratio 6-speed is miles more fun than a 5-speed as well. + cobalt SS suffers from the same problem the srt-4 had... it's still sedan-looking. no thanx

  • Really? Up here in Beaver land the MS3 listed for 34,000 after tax where the Cobalt was 29,500. But in any event, if I had the money I would have bought the MS3 because I love the car as a whole. The exterior is not as much my thing as the Cobalts (not a big hatch fan) but the interior was gorgeous and I loved the seats. In any event, it was a win win because both cars kick ass but the Balt is definitely not for everybody. I'd gladly own both. (I have the Coupe by the way) 4 door was ugly.

  • Hey --- All I said is I could'nt find one ---- I like the idea of a high Hp, small car.And even though Mazda's are not my cup of tea . they are still good cars.

  • Land yacht dimensions and weight. Bigger, heavier, slower, and more expensive.

  • Oooooook??? Lol..

  • they look soo much better in person :P

  • Fuck, why don't they just drop a fat supercharger on one of these things?

  • Because it's a rebaged Holden? Holden who got a bunch of crap for borrowing the American technology to put in their Commodores? Namely the engine?

  • A real muscle car done right. Too little too late to save Pontiac. In realaity, that car was $41K.

  • 36,000 no way i'll buy 2010 camarro for that price

  • whats wrong with a teenager that mods their vehicle ?

  • things such as a big wing, is unattractive to the more mature drivers and auidance.

  • Us australians also have a better car then this, it is called holden HSV w427 with 500hp.

  • Us Americans also have something better than this, its called the Cadillac CTS-V with 556hp. =)

  • actually you aussie's desgined this car it's a rebadged commador

  • Ye but you guys need the big motor cus you got to outrun the Kangaroos --- and up here all we need to outrun is the odd beaver drinking Molson Canadian----- most of the time we can beat them with a Smart car.

  • No, we need huge bullbars or cars, so when they hop out infront of us at 130km/h we go right through them, instead of them flying through the windscreen.

  • this car realy came from australia. it is called holden ss-v. it is not american!!!!!!

  • wrong, VERY wrong

  • My Lincoln Ls is producing 310hp at the rear wheel and weighs 3600lbs. I have beaten challenger not once but 4 times because the owner could not believe that my 02 Ls can beat his 45k car. He was mad about it and kept on saying that it gotta Hemi which produces 450hp. My car is Dyno Tune and have performance chip and also cams. I never had problem beating Mustang on the street. I am yet to test myself against Camaro.

  • its got a bmw style. its more practical. pontiacs prior were heavy, gaudy, and looked ridiculous. this one looks like it has some sense to it.

  • I've owned 4 Vettes(including an 02 Z06) and 2 S197 Mustangs and my 09 G8 GT, pound for pound, is a significantly better car than any of 'em. Already added a Pypes axleback, the Vararam intake arrives Monday and I'm doing the VMS tune next month. I'll then be low 13's/high 12's at over 400 horse! Come to Houston and come get some!

  • I don't know if they'll ever bring back Pontiac. I was hoping they would bring back the Firebird Trans Am but that doesn't look like it's going to happen now.

  • Anyone think Pontiac will ever be back?

  • Is this considered an American muscle car even though it was built in Australia.?

  • It has an American Engine, thats it i don't really know if you would call it an American Muscle car......

  • It's on the GM Zeta platform, which is what the Camaro is built on. The Zeta development was delegated to the Australian engineers by GM, so in that sense it was conceived in the minds of the Australians. It's just unfortunate that plans to expand use of this excellent platform have been all but abandoned. The car didn't do well here. Americans drank the FWD koolaid and still haven't recovered.

  • Interesting i already knew those facts but thanks from bringing it up:) lol

Where is the Camero Built just out of curiousty?

  • Actually in Canada, I think. So it's an "American" car in the broad sense, but not in the "US" sense. I just hope they don't discontinue Zeta.
