  • Great track. Bought this when it first came out. Basildon market, great source for genuine Reggae (at the time).

  • Smokin!!!!!!!!

  • Oh yeah...Every time i hear this track i know i'm gonna have a good day:)

  • SKA band in Kent called The Skatonics do this one and other similar trojan ska and 2tone... worth checking!

  • im the only one who wished they called this song bankers are wankers or fuck halifax or something

  • music from the 70s and 80s could be extremely lame but nothing from the 60s was bad, I'd consider disco to be old fashioned but not this

  • is this that reggae thing?

  • GTA london boi!

  • kitchener in welling good times

  • a way of life....

  • @EmptyPlanetFilms fuck off you cunty mutherphukin bastard

  • @EmptyPlanetFilms THIS stuff, a 17 year old who has a good taste in music but is slightly uneducated

  • @MsCalibras I was 14 when I bought this record back in 1969, great times eh? and what music it just does,nt compare to todays stuff.

  • this song has an old sound xDD

  • skinhead is still alive and non-racist. Forget those racist idiots who call themselves skins

  • @yazeek1 Just read your post on Lee Pery! Were you a skin? I loved all that early Ska, Tippa Tone and Bluebeat Reggae! Unfortunately, for me, I loved motorcycles too! Tis hard to tell yer Greaser mates that you're into Reggae! And you can't go to a dance with yer skin mates when yer a Greebo!

  • This tune seems familiar, wasn't it used in a tax advert in the UK?

  • @GloucesterAdam indeed it was :)

  • @GloucesterAdam

Yeah, this Ska track was used for a tax advert here in the uk, and it propted me (NOT) to feed that Greedy tax man any more money!

  • @GloucesterAdam It was used in a Cadbury's Fruit & Nut Ad in the 70's I think.

  • Who the hell were 7 weird people who didn't like this?

  • tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuune :]

  • brings back memories for me. pete waterman gave me a copy of this record when he came back from the states way back in the 70's

  • Does anyone know if there's a live version of The Upsetters' Django?

It would be a treat to see them performing.

As it happens, this used to be my favourite ADF thing and I've just find out it's a cover!

  • @loofah76dbk

get yourself a copy of lee scratch perry live at the jazz cafe . first track on there is possibly the best version of return of django ive ever heard - and ive heard a lot of them!!

think its called sun is shining - he works a lot of marley stuff in the set - but a pretty decent listen.

  • red hot

  • I've had this track for about ten years, wish I could have been there back in the day to witness.

  • This song inspired another song, hear the "Django" instrumental sabrehmajor on myspace

  • shame its on the tax credits advert :(

  • I cannot agree more with everyone who has posted about how this music makes you smile. I guess the older ones amongst us are probably more prone to reflect upon when was (apparently) simpler 'back in the day'.

I'm fifty but easily find myself transported back to 13/14/15 when I was first listening to this stuff. The magic never fades, let alone dies. It doesn't matter what name you give it, folks: it is ALL brilliant!

  • 6 dislikes weirdos!

  • Anyone know what the version with lyrics is called and who its by?

  • Good music lasts!!

  • moOswe It's more than a mere "name" I think, Ska (the earliest form) and Rocksteady are quite different to Reggae. Rocksteady was a transitional version of Reggae, rather as early sixties "R&B" is to late sixties Soul. The names were not invented for nothing!

  • WICKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!!!!

  • What was the name of the song that started 'from coast to coast, the sound of now'? Thanks.

  • @kcupriest That tune was called " Lockjaw " I think.

  • I so agree with moOswe comments above- This music is the sounds of my youth- brings back many fun memories of dancing in lines in our village hall, and gangs of skinheads and greasers wandering around galring at each other!! This music makes me happy too, takes all my cares away...bring back 1969!

  • Does anyone know where I can get the picture from the video from? It would make an ace t-shirt!

  • a big hit in jamaica, this is actually modelled on an old new orleans classic called "sick n tired".

  • The Kosmo Club, Broad Street in Bath, early 70's. Ben Sherman, Levi Staprest, Harrington, brogues, DM's, Crombie. By far the smartest trend ever. We ALL wore these, no matter WHAT creed or colour. All of us together. Fab music, fab place, fab time.

  • I see that you went to Max Romeo, I had an LP od his and Moonstompers.

I'll look in tonight and write more.

Interesting to have others with the same tastes.

  • MoOswe that where some wise words Bless.

  • Return of Django is fucking amazing. It should be considered one of the best instrumentals of modern music.

  • ahhh yeah! check out the song the nextman sampled that in .. mighty phat

  • this has almsot been ruined by the fucking adverts nicking it!

A little bit of history people , Back in the day "Spaghetti Westerns" were MASSIVE in Jamacia and the film DJANGO kicked up the Island

Several Album covers from that time depict the Spaghetti Western theme.

The Upsetters even went as far as printing a copy of the cowboy "Django" on one of their sleeves, and were threatened with a lawsuit, If you can find that Album cover in your Record Box...( Hold On To It Your Rich )

  • This was a tribute to Django Rhinehart

  • goonernewyork great post, takes me back to the North Bank on a Saturday afternoon, 3 o'clock kickoff's, when we used to kick Chelsea's arse regulary and I'm not refering to Bill Clinton's daughter! Too me this is the sounds of my youth and I feel better about everything when hearing this music, it makes me happy and thats what we all should focus on, being happy and forget everything else.

    Peace out and Jah bless.

  • I was there, 15 years old and it just got me. Now I'm nearly 60 but these songs make me feel 16.

I went to Brixton [from Gainsborough,Lincolnshire] to the railway arches to the record shop. Fantastic.

I had West Indian friends and we were all buddies, no racism. Music was the love...and the women. Those days never fade away and so just be happy.

  • @yazeek1 Shame about Gainsborough tho, surprised you encountered no racism HaHa :)

  • @yazeek1

Same as, I came from Kingston (London), had some great times with these sounds. Used to go to the Ska discos in the mid/late sixties, moved on thru the different "sounds" up through the seventies. Still love them now (just can't dance so well tho!)
