I myself enjoy the fights in this movie, but let me explain its downfall. The Sandman was a weak villain plot-wise.He was robotic and predictable. More importantly, The moments between the fights were meant to be brooding and powerful, but just made you laugh because they were poorly written and performed. And the villain that everyone WANTED to see (Venom) had been put on the back-burner for the poorly concieved Sandman plot and Harry's rediculous attempts to avenge his father's death.

@darknumber000 You know, that just got me thinking. This was Sandman's first attempt at theft with his powers, right? So Spidey had no knowledge of his abilities prior to this fight. You would think Spidey would pull his punches, but that's not the case when his first punch goes through Sandman. Lol

@jediharold12 I think in many ways what sam raimi was trying to do was not to show all of spiderman in the first two films, more or less like Peter Parker trying to come to terms with his powers and dealing with it, and the circumstances he had to face when being blessed with these powers of a spider, and 3 on I believe it got closer to cocky / arrogant spiderman that myself and many other liked in the comic books and its a crying shame that alot of fans did not see that in this movie

@Shazam961 Sam Raimi never wanted to use Venom; Avi Arard and Sony forced him to make Spiderman 3 the cocky, dull storyline that is. Sam originally wanted Sandman and Harry. Sony forced him to make Peter mre drker, and more goofyier.

@Shazam961 Originally, it was supposed to only focus on Sandman, Harry, Peter, Aunt May and MJ. The theme was still the same, but it was only with two villains. Then Sony and Avi Arad stepped in and rejected his script and forced him to put Venom in it, but sam said "no" because he didn't want it to be dark, but the Sony told him to make it darker or else they'll fire him. Sam Raimi made the movie without his control.
