Most ancient ideographic and pictographic languages are based on this same 3rd dimensional principle. Look at the Ideograms of the orient cultures such as Chinese, Japanese, and even Egyptian. They were all once viewed in a 3rd dimensional way. They weren't made to be 2 dimensional.
