Sesame Street: Mark Ruffalo: Empathy

I posted this on my Facebook page for all to see... Just because it's on Sesame Street doesn't mean it's only for children. Through the years, Sesame Street has taught many life-lessons... I still watch it, at age 32, when I catch a snippet while flipping through channels. This show is timeless!!! :)

@sayawe They're closely related. Both mean to feel badly for someone, but empathy is more related to being able to understand and *feel* the same kind of emotion for the person (like the puppet feeling sad because of Mark's sadness for his teddy bear).  Sympathy doesn't have the same tie to sharing emotions; you could feel badly for someone, but not let their emotions affect yours. Does that help at all?
