The thing I like most about Cornel West is how he keeps you engaged the entire time he's talking. Some people put you to sleep but Dr.West is not just a genius he is great at conveying his knowledge to people which is priceless.

I like Prof. West because he's not caught up on dividing people into racial categories.

The wording actually assumes they are full persons. It distinguishes between the contribution to the census from free persons and the contribution from other persons. @stevefromPA2 The governing body did not consider ppl less worth but some of the population. You don't realize how many in the government FOUGHT against the thought and actions of slavery. The wording actually assumes they are full persons. It distinguishes between the contribution to the census from free persons and the contribution from other persons. It's 3/5 of the number of other persons that gets added to the number of free persons. It's not that slaves are 3/5 of a person.

I won't go into Dr. West's history but I'll just say that he's taught at both Harvard and Princeton. Both institutions fought over obtaining him as a professor before he taught at either. I don't see that happening to a "sham" of a professor. What was it that you've accomplished by the way?

The problem isn't that people discriminate on the basis of class - but that class exists, or to put it another way, that the ruling class, the capitalist class, maintains that same ugly class system which allows and perpetuates racism. He uses examples past and present, he name drops, uses very big words and humor, all to make a point. In order to keep an audience engaged you must use many different tools.

I don't know of a single racist that, in everyday discourse, and with unbridled frequency, refers to people of other races as his "brother" or "sister" often prefixed with the words "my dear". 14:28 The word human has the same roots as "homo" dating back to the 12th century, meaning "Pertaining to man". I know this is only one example but I seem to find all these little "mistakes" in his speeches all the time and in listening to him, he really sounds racist. No doubt, that he's only saying things as a means of "poetry" but if people take what he says seriously, then they are prone to becoming more racist at the end of his speeches than before.

He is clearly very intelligent, and better educated than I ever will be, but Cornel West has always seemed crazy to me. I don't hold it against him, I'm in favor of crazy over conformist, but seems obsessed with his perspective, and in a way, he has become as small minded as the people he despises. Racist? If Cornell West was white, he wouldn't be able to get a job at a community college. His courses are vacuous frauds. In this age of affirmative action, race preferences, race norming etc..., he is still talking about the "legacy of slavery". Tell that to the white kid that was rejected by Princeton with perfect SAT's and GPA's in favor of the relative mediocrities that take the moronic classes West teaches.

I had to comment due to the couple of naysayers that had to chime in. I'll go you one better than that: Without Affirmative Action neither Barack or Michelle Obama would NEVER have gotten into Harvard Law School.
Obama refuses to release his college records! Word has it that his undergraduate grades at Columbia and hers at Princeton were mediocre and if they had been White, they wouldn't have stood a snowball's chance in Hell of getting in Harvard. Fact.

Are speaking directly to upholding admissions standards to the letter across the board because that would be a joke to put it plainly( see legacy admissions).
Are you saying that mediocre grades in Ivy league schools means those particular students should not have been admitted based on what? If I excel at HS and then get into Harvard and get mediocre grades does that mean I should not have been admitted in the first place?

Cornel West classes are not frauds just like white supremacy and male supremacy are not entirely gone from American society. Your SAT GPA white kid story is utter nonsense and not worth spaces provided by Youtube to respond. we need caring hard working "mediocre" students just as much as straight A students. If you want to attack, attack with facts.
