Joker finds that he loves the girl but the feelings pain him so he give her her soul back intending to kill her. My own little story for this, if you're interested. Joker is a demon who lures women into his castle. He plays a game with them for their freedom and if they lose he steals their heart. He turns the woman into a puppet, a companion who moves through motions mechanically, and eventually kills them. Only he fell in love with this girl, for she was beautiful and kind and couldn't bring himself to kill her. She returns to life and they run away together.
