  • rest in groove.

  • Great remake! Perfect combo of late 80s pop and mad funk. Listen to the bass track on this....Somewhere a ladies knees are vibrating uncontrollably.

  • Thanks for this! Brings back memories.

  • omg been looking for this song for so long..

  • Excellent!!!! I love the original but I really love Robert's version!!

  • I had heard of Robert Palmer's version of this song, but just hearing it for the first time. Pretty good cover. Pleasantly suprised, actually.

  • Major nostalgia - Xmas 1988 !

  • bye Robert Palmer,

The don't make them like you enymore !

    love R.i.p.

    ,

    Ralph

  • i love his remakes .. especially because he re-did the beat production too!!! and he would kill it and this was in the 80s !?!!! he was way ahead of his time !!

  • anyone hating on RP's remakes know absolutely nothing about music! he always had a way of making it his own without taking anything away from the original. most of his remakes were better than his own tunes ...

  • @ukendcx2000 Well said. RP was a terrific artist.

  • Robert hit #19 in Billboard, 12-17-88. IMHO, the Gap Band had the better version. Thanx for postin' this 1.

  • My fav track off of Heavy Nova. I only wish they still played this on the radio.

  • Palmer's songs are so romantic and erotic at the same time. :) I don't know why, but when I listen it, I wanna someone to cuddle and kiss all the time! :)))

    addicted to love!!! <3

    80's <3

  • Ummm...no

  • As far as i'm concerned both versions of this songs are good cuts and will stand the test of time. Soul doesn't have a color. You either have it or you don't. And when it comes to a good groove whatever the gengre (if the artist is on his game) there is plenty of room for interpretation. When Robert Palmer always took a song and made his own. The brother was gone too soon, but he will NEVER be forgotten. At least not on my watch.

  • This was my favorite song he did. He was so cool.

  • Both versions are very good. Put a gun to my head, I'll take the Gap Band's version. Maybe.

  • I like this version, a lot, but the Gap Band's original top it. The GB video is a bit dated and cheesy though. RP's video is much better. But both renditions of this "funkified" song are real good. Feast yer ears folks.

  • Heavy Nova is one of those albums that truly encapsulates the blue-eyed soul sound. Robert Palmer was taken from us much too soon, but luckily, his voice lives on,,,

  • I think he did a great cover of The Gap Band's song, and personally find it a decent tribute. For the person that didn't like Palmer covering them, it's guaranteed he won't be doing another cover of anything.

  • @plankroad2003 why cuz he did it better

  • @MrTjsimon I take it back they're both good Gap band more of a disco sound RP more of a laid back cool sound to each their own

  • There should be laws against Palmer covering The Gap Band.

  • Uncle Charlie's voice is so soulful on the orginal. I love how Robert Palmer didn't try to duplicate it he just went the smoooooth route and made it his own.

  • The songs he picked to remake for this album gives me a higher respect for Mr. Palmer. Rest in peace good brother!

  • @ednoroirika

Exactly! He has the best taste in R&B. I love his version of "you are in my system".

  • @jemjem115 Me too! He really did know his R&B. He didn't go for the obvious songs (My girl) He did "you are in my system". I'm like dude you know that song? lol

  • I am in love with a dead man! I am doomed!

  • Definitely a different take on it, more contemporary, but doesn't lose any of the essence of the original ...

  • I AM A VIRGIN

  • @SELFproclaimedVIRGIN ...Thanks for letting us know.

  • Wow, it's the late Robert Palmer and his Power Station band peforming a classic Gap Band jam. RIP Mister Palmer. Great cut! Thanks for posting!

  • Makes me wish for younger days when the music was good and I could dance all night. This and sneaking Sally through the alley are my favs.

  • Gotta admit; my favourite from Heavy Nova. Almost too hot to handle.

  • I love this song. I miss ya, Robert! R.I.P! We love you!

  • Gone too soon. Best track on that album, and yet all anybody remembers is Simply Irrestible. The Gap Band still kicked it old style.

  • I love his version of this Gap Band tune. Rest In Peace Robert Palmer

  • I give him credit for even trying to match vocals with Charlie Wilson,... But why compete with perfection.

By the way, the music sounds microwaved, rather soulless... maby he sold it...

  • Still like the Gap's version better. RP's version hit #19 pop, #40 rock in the US. Did it chart in the UK? God bless! RIP, Robert.

  • I love the bass and drums equalization. More rocker with funk. The Gap Band version was very funk. This was made more heavy, with a "Bowie" touch.

  • I love the gap band version but this is real good too!

  • This song is like a pointless life of wandering around wondering who you're going to sleep with next.

  • I really do like robert palmer and i am for the old skool era from the comments on here went Black music is as what you call it cover and that is ok with me and that is what i call imitation of the song why went it comes to black original music and the cover is done by white artists it's like clorox bleach 99.999% and went black cover white artists it's 100% white maybe i am missing something?

  • @PrinceMamuwalde - I listen to both song what you call version and this song is ok but by no means this song are better than the original Gap Band_Early In The Morning it don't have that Soul and the real Funk to this song and if anybody know anything about funk music fuck the guitar we funk the bass and any fool such know that

  • different...

  • was expecting fail and walked away with epic

  • @Omegax9000 however this like the emo serious version i still like it

  • Oh, well, tifjoking, different strokes for different folks. God bless!

  • the Wilson brothers had the original and best version. Even so, Robert charted at #19 with it. The Gappers hit #24 in '82. How'd Robert's version do in the UK? God bless!

  • I like this version better.

  • to all criticist... this is different and can't be compared to gap band original... this is a piece of yuppie badass music

  • I loved the original by the Gap band, but Robert has some smooth beats in this! They are BOTH equally good.

  • YES!!!!! I usually don't like remakes, but HE TORE THIS UP!!!! FUCKING AWESOME! RIP, Robert... you were 1 cool white dude!

  • "Gotta find me a lover that won't run for cover; got find me a lover that won't run to mother" @ 2:02

I Love those Gap Band lyrics!

  • mr palmer was a brilliant musician but I think the gap bands version was superior

  • Yes indeed. RP got his much deserved credit, but the Gap Band nailed it!

  • I don't know what you guys are listening to. I like Robert Palmer but he should have left this one alone. It pales in comparison to the original.

  • Making it the only way RP could do it. Ultra smooth, cool with class. Rest in peace my brother, and I am sure you are in heaven jammin for GOD right now!!!

  • hmmmm that's why God forgot us all . he's partying all the time with Rob o.O

  • Nice video, sure do miss hearing his voice on the radio anymore.

  • I never knew the late, great Robert Palmer covered this, tell I looked up the song on Wikipedia, trying to find what year the Gap Band version came out. Sweet!

  • He's the only one that did it better than the Gap Band!

  • 1982-- G.B.

    1988-- R.P.

Both versions give me goosebumps... that's all that matters.

  • Its amazing how this sounds similar to Gap Bands 'Party Train' Robert Palmer really knew how to throw in a strong powerful voice when it called for it. I love Gap Band is wonderful, but IMO Robert slammed this one out of the park!

  • i like this song

  • Oh I bet you were a virgin til you met me...

    Great song!

  • Great track. He looks like Michael J Fox on the album cover.

  • I LOVE RAY LIOTTA! LOL

  • Awesome ! Thanks for sharing.

  • I still think his version beats the original by the Gap Band and that takes some doing!

    R.I.P. Robert Palmer

  • i didnt know he had passed. He was great an i used to cut the rug bigtime on this one lol

  • thanks for posting, i love this song. i had been hoping it would get posted

  • Thank you for posting this. This was always one of my favorite cuts of his, even better than the smooth Gap Band original. Andy Taylor contributions on guitar is just sick!!!!

  • glad you enjoyed it i figured there was someone who realy enjoyed it with 137 views already

  • I allways enjoy this song the time, the rithym, the lyrics and of course :the GREAT and ONLY performance of Robert Palmer thanks for posting!!!!

  • Thank you for posting. This version beats the Gap Band's by far, in my opinion. What a soulful singer Robert was, and so diverse and talented...

  • I agree. But I really do like both! & It's really HARD to get me to even LISTEN to a remake!

  • @mholtdbc You could do brain surgery with that bass solo; clean as a whistle.
