Like you said, Angie, Atheists do good work because it's simply good to do. Christians do it because God will send them to Hell if they don't. Love your videos! You tell it like it is!
@dhide14 your exhibiting behavior consistent with that of someone fleeing something they can't overcome and are only left with insults as a last resort when nothing constructive or relevant is possible from your tiny misguided mind.now go and play with the traffic you silly puppy.:-)
@munkdo3 I think everyone has that perception. It's most likely a side effect from the "theory of mind," in which we can ascribe motives and feelings to others, but also sometimes to animals, plants, or even inanimate objects. There's also a portion of our brain that allows us to distinguish between "us" and "everything else," and if that shuts down we get that feeling of "oneness with the universe/God" that every religion claims is proof of their particular belief system. I dunno, go figure.
Ummmmm... Muslims do have a "warm fuzzy feeling" for Jesus because they believe he is returning as their messiah... Yeah, it's really close to christianity until one goes further into both texts. Muslims also love the exact same God/Allah as Christians. The only difference is the belief of what God/Allah really wants us to do. Muhammed was only a prophet and teacher to the people of islam. I suggest you drop the western belief system and educate yourself before you use false examples again.
The garbage people come and take things from us because we pay them to do so, not because they are some magical elves who feel the need to take items from us. I would find a better example. Haha
Christianity is THE MOST selfish religion on the planet. Imagine doing tons of charitable things ONLY because YOU want to go to heaven and YOU want 'god' to recognize you as a good person. Not because you simply want to help people or be charitable...
Every Atheist I know has had a life changing event that makes them resent God. I wonder what happened to you? Did you go broke? Did you lose your job? Did your ex dump you because of those ugly moles??? Please tell us!
@dhide14 That's funny! The same is true for me, but then the exact opposite. Every theist I know (that had not been infected with the HC-virus at a really young age) had some really nasty experiences in his or her life which made them susceptible to infection. HC = holy crap
@dhide14 Bullshit you must not know any Atheist. You are a hypocrite for one but anyway most atheist because there is no proof for your imaginary friend.
@AngieAntiTheist: Your videos are great! as a former believer (I was actually a licensed minister for years) who through my own study came to the same logical conclusions, I appreciate you posting these and helping people understand truth!
@Mystified012 Yea you would thnk. If one is not told about God, does not make us born atheist. It simply keeps us from deciding ,what to believe, and what not to beleive. Until we can find an answer. Isn't this the same room another one made a video in? Maybe they are having orgies in the back where we can't see them. because one can not believe in something, if there is nothing to give reason. Even to believe n atheism, one must have a reason.
Church suck 10% of believers' salary. They not only suck money they also make believer become free worker. Atheism free people from being suck of their time, money, energy n everything. Atheism free humanity from becoming a slave for god, free people from believing in lies. Free people from the shock of their life after they die n find out that they had been scammed bcos there is no Xtian heaven. Of course Xtianity likes to use bad tactic n portray Atheist who expose them as the bad one.
I've deleted my other video response (not the original one) b/c it was quite mean spirited. For this, I sincerely apologize.
Upon reexamining Atheism 101 and this video, I discovered that the main question I had asked was never answered which was is atheism self-existant (in other words, did atheism exist before the creation of our world and time itself?) If so, where did it come from?
@jfritzyb You defined "self-existent" as existing before the world or time itself.
Nowhere in her video did Angie use the term "self-existent" or say or imply that atheism existed before the world or time itself.
Why would you think that the only alternative to "starting by word of mouth" would be to "self-exist"? As a non-belief, atheism would manifest spontaneously and independently within each atheist.
...Angie implied that atheism, like a hole in the ground, just...existed, thereby avoiding her own question which was on the origins of atheism.
So...where did atheism come from?
If it came from other atheists, then why does she use the hole analogy implying that it always existed? If it didn't come from there, where in the round world DID it come from?
@jfritzyb First I did watch Angie's video - twice.
Second, Angie never said that it always existed, she said that it is the default position.
Your problem is that you want atheism to be a belief system, which would mean that it must have started somewhere. But it isn't a belief system, it's the absence of a belief system.
Your question is like having an empty box and asking "where did all this emptiness come from?". Emptiness doesn't "come from" anywhere.
I'm sorry, but just b/c you have a default position, it doesn't mean that that position won't lead you in a certain direction. It can, it will, and it has!
Not only that, I've put forward some perfectly reational, important, and very basic questions concerning atheism; for you to consider those questions as trivial as a box or a hole in the ground shows me that you do not value the opinions of those who disagree with your worldview.
"Why would you think that the only alternative to "starting by word of mouth" would be to "self-exist"? As a non-belief, atheism would manifest spontaneously and independently within each atheist. "
Lol; don't ask ME!
Ask Angie; she's the one you need to convince, not me; lol, you and I agree that atheism more then likely spread by word of mouth but she is of the opinion that it did not b/c if it did, then it would've "started like all those other religions".
you are great. must be rough dealing with closed minded people the whole time and not get real pissed off. Religion seems to have a nack for attracting those types of people which isnt surprising.
@AngieAntiTheist they shouldn't shun you out of thier lives just because you don't believe anymore. If they wanted you to start believing agian then they should try even harder to have you in thier lives.

It was around before religion was thought. Back then there was no god. If you watch the movie "the invention of lying" it shows you an example of how religion was made and its out come.
A baby, who is essentially as are all babies, is born as a atheist, because they lack a god belief from the womb, will love its mother. great refutation, Angie.
I love the vacuum cleaner analogy. Vacuums and Garbage trucks remove Garbage. If they are like atheism then I think it's a perfect analogy which also removes unhealthy filth.
If anyone believes in talking snakes and citys that magicically appear full of people when there are only 3 people on the planet. You think incest is a good moral value. You think commiting genocide for invisible sky beings, and all the animals on the planet can fit in a supertanker sized boat, then The Holy Bible and Jesus are right up your alley.
Exactly my thoughts on it. A vacuum cleaner does take the dirt away, but it 's a positive removal and ultimately ends up with the gift of a clean floor.
Great video Angie! It's great that you and others here are able to show that this common Christian knee-jerk derogatory stereotype about Atheists, Atheism, and Secular Humanism is false. Let's hope many will learn from this.
Because it only comes to show how much you were actually paying attention to her and what her video was about.
The point is, you weren't. You were too overly focused on what she was wearing...most specifically, of course, the boob area. If you were a half way decent guy who didn't have sex on the mind every five minutes, then what she was wearing shouldn't have matter, none the less gotten your attention.
Tell me something, do you believe in equal rights of both men and women. If so, then prove it to me by answering this... Why is that a man can walk around half naked without a shirt and not get any attention or flap for it, but if a woman were to flash her naked boobs on camera, she gets names like whore and slut thrown at her?
I do believe in equal rights- for an equal amount of work. Now, If her objective was to come across as an intellectual and or a professional, then her clothing failed her. In a setting in which you ask about breasts and men with no shirts, male news anchors generally wear collar shirts and jackets - last time i checked that wasn't at the beach with their shirts off. Women generally wear a blouse or conservative suit With Appropriate amount of cleavage.
Well, she's not talking to professionals here, she's talking to everyday joe-shmo's like you and I and everyone else here. And no, not everyone who is an "intellectual" has a job like being a reporter or a news anchor or a professor at some college... A deli clerk at a grocery store can be an intellectual. And intellectuals, generally can tell the difference between when a woman is intentionally dressing provocative in order to gain a male audience's attention and it's not intentional
So just to clear something up- If you were reading an article and it was filled with grammatical errors every other sentence. One can assume that the writer is a moron. One can also assume that the information contained therein is at question due to the lack of detail and lack of intelligence. Now if someone is dressed in a clown suit or, excessively gaudy clothing, the information presented will become muddled by a distasteful package presentation.
Because there is a social stigma that has been attached to the breast, within our culture, for millennia. It's entirely subjective, proofed by if you watch National Geographic, women will walk around topless all the time without fear of any kind of sexual depravity being forced upon them. I for one wouldn't mind one bit if women wished to walk around topless for the same reason any man would, but our generally accepted cultural guidelines (all seeped in religious agenda btw) simply don't permit.
I do believe in equal rights for everyone. For the purposes of my response I am going to assume you are male, but please correct me if I am wrong. Shirtless males do get female attention, positive or negative, we are just usually quieter in our reactions. That is an issue with our society that does not exist everywhere. There are places where neither women nor men ever wear shirts and no one has a problem with it. I hope that answered your question.
I spent most of my life studying religion. I know the history but it taught me little of the world or human psychology or philosophy. Since giving it up a whole new world has open up for me. It's true I could have studied science and philosophy when I was a believer but I was very busy with religious study and there was always a taint to science that made me suspicious of it.
Atheism sucks the life out of people? No, only the illusions. If they can't tell the difference between life and illusions they've got serious problems.
angie, i have to disagree with you on the first point you made. i would agree we are born atheist but is it not innate. in fact to be an atheist is to go against many thousands of years of human evolution. it is innate to try and explain something unusual with something supernatural. education is the key to becoming an ahteist. it is certainly not innate to be an atheist.
I don't quite agree with this. I think it is innate. I think it is also human nature to find patterns and to draw inference. Humans make tools, design things and cause things to happen. The world looks designed and caused therefore there must be a hidden designer somewhere.
If a person is born knowing the causes of volcanoes, earthquakes, the motion of the planets and stars etc., then there is no reason to infer god.
well think what you want. try looking at human history before you make your claim. early humans were drawing on walls and making tributes to gods long before any history recorded of atheism. we are NOT born with any knowlege. your last point is just stupid!
People were drawing on walls for the reasons I stated. They didn't have answers so they made guesses. They didn't make these guesses as children. They made them as adults and then passed them on to their children who embellished and changed the beliefs. No cave walls have pictures of crosses on them.
what do you possibly to stand on the assume that the paintings were only made as adults? nothing, no warrent for our claims. it is not innate to ba an athesit! if anyone were to tell me they were an atheist form birth i would tell them they are full of $h*T!! so whats the age when these cave ppl bacame religious? it just happened over nite? early humans could observe natural Phenomenon but could never just knw how to explain it.
And BTW: I DID look at human history and other sources including Jared Diamond, Daniel Everett, Steve Pinker and others. We have pretty good evidence for how ancient people first started to believe in god.
Don't assume things about other people before you make YOUR claim.
Imamthewalrus, stated that it was not innate to be an atheist. It should be common knowledge that human children would make an uneducated analysis based on the insanely large ego they develope as infants, to include a Greater Being(s) and that they are focal point of their universe. Children are at a disadvantage because these brain functions have not yet been fully developed, thus their early understanding is warpped. Children don't pop' out fully developed.
@imamthewalrus You are positing that belief in the supernatural is part of our evolutionary process, indicating that you are more highly evolved than believers. That just doesn't stack up to the facts. If that were true, the Piraha people of South America would be one of the most highly evolved people on the planet.
putting your abuse of the word "evolve" aside, i dont mean evolved technologically , just in reasoning. which many of you lack. that mean you ScottJenseen but mostly you awatson!
@imamthewalrus I knew what you meant. Not believing in fairy tales is indeed innate. It is only when they are taught as truth do we begin to believe such things. My point was, that beliefs have nothing to do with evolution.
@imamthewalrus Fine. But there is no evidence that our brains are more highly evolved today than they were 10,000 years ago or more. Scientist have talked about this, because we seem to have this thought that our ancestors were stupid. They were not, and if not for their smarts to survive, we wouldn't be here now. What caused religion has nothing to do with evolution, but fear. What caused the fear? Might have had something to do with mega floods after the end of the ice age.
It's amazing how many people think of the warm fuzzy they get from religion (forgetting about the bad parts) and believe that it's a feeling that's special to religion, when humans can fixate on just about anything given the right circumstances. Or not, as appropriate to that person. :D
Like you said, Angie, Atheists do good work because it's simply good to do. Christians do it because God will send them to Hell if they don't. Love your videos! You tell it like it is!

because that's just simply all the dress is styled to fit, but isn't that provocative. It's not like what she is wearing is that overly revealing.
JediTat 2 years ago
The camera is way to high for the clothing she is wearing.
I Don't Care.
It's her image.

SHHH....She might notice and change it.
Its fine how it is. B-)

No, I'm a girl.

My mistake then, though I still stand by my answer.

Oh I so agree. Good post.

I spent most of my life studying religion. I know the history but it taught me little of the world or human psychology or philosophy. Since giving it up a whole new world has open up for me. It's true I could have studied science and philosophy when I was a believer but I was very busy with religious study and there was always a taint to science that made me suspicious of it.
awatson945 2 years ago
Seems like a total waste, now doesn't it.
Maybe you feel open because you Grew up and stopped believing in fairy tales.
Welcome, to the real world.

Atheism sucks the life out of people? No, only the illusions. If they can't tell the difference between life and illusions they've got serious problems.
zarkoff45 2 years ago 5
angie, i have to disagree with you on the first point you made. i would agree we are born atheist but is it not innate. in fact to be an atheist is to go against many thousands of years of human evolution. it is innate to try and explain something unusual with something supernatural. education is the key to becoming an ahteist. it is certainly not innate to be an atheist.
imamthewalrus 2 years ago
I don't quite agree with this. I think it is innate. I think it is also human nature to find patterns and to draw inference. Humans make tools, design things and cause things to happen. The world looks designed and caused therefore there must be a hidden designer somewhere.
If a person is born knowing the causes of volcanoes, earthquakes, the motion of the planets and stars etc., then there is no reason to infer god.
awatson945 2 years ago
@awatson
well think what you want. try looking at human history before you make your claim. early humans were drawing on walls and making tributes to gods long before any history recorded of atheism. we are NOT born with any knowlege. your last point is just stupid!
imamthewalrus 2 years ago
Saying it is stupid is just ad hominem.
People were drawing on walls for the reasons I stated. They didn't have answers so they made guesses. They didn't make these guesses as children. They made them as adults and then passed them on to their children who embellished and changed the beliefs. No cave walls have pictures of crosses on them.
No, my point stands.
awatson945 2 years ago
ok, maybe i need to say you're stupid.
what do you possibly to stand on the assume that the paintings were only made as adults? nothing, no warrent for our claims. it is not innate to ba an athesit! if anyone were to tell me they were an atheist form birth i would tell them they are full of $h*T!! so whats the age when these cave ppl bacame religious? it just happened over nite? early humans could observe natural Phenomenon but could never just knw how to explain it.
imamthewalrus 2 years ago
What is your basis for your claim? I have anthropology and sociobiology (see link below).
So, do you have something other than personal attack and childish insults?
I never said it happened overnight. On the contrary, I told you that the beliefs grew over time.
awatson945 2 years ago
And BTW: I DID look at human history and other sources including Jared Diamond, Daniel Everett, Steve Pinker and others. We have pretty good evidence for how ancient people first started to believe in god.
Don't assume things about other people before you make YOUR claim.
awatson945 2 years ago
so where is the support for atheism being innate?
imamthewalrus 2 years ago
tinyurl(dot)com/ylklgwz Replace (dot) with a period ".".
Now, where is the support that it isn't?
awatson945 2 years ago
The Pirahã tribe in Brazila are atheists. There is no evidence that their people ever believed in god.

One more thing, here is a reference for you.

@awatson945
@ScottJanssen

@ScottJanssen
If the brain has come to a
simplistic cause, albeit unexplainable, then there is no need to search any farther if the matter does not directly effect you.
gmgunner 2 years ago
@imamthewalrus You are positing that belief in the supernatural is part of our evolutionary process, indicating that you are more highly evolved than believers. That just doesn't stack up to the facts. If that were true, the Piraha people of South America would be one of the most highly evolved people on the planet.

putting your abuse of the word "evolve" aside, i dont mean evolved technologically , just in reasoning. which many of you lack. that mean you ScottJenseen but mostly you awatson!
imamthewalrus 2 years ago
@imamthewalrus I knew what you meant. Not believing in fairy tales is indeed innate. It is only when they are taught as truth do we begin to believe such things. My point was, that beliefs have nothing to do with evolution.
ScottJanssen 2 years ago
@scott i dissagree, evolution has to do with everything!
we can go back and forth forever trying to argue our points, lets just agree to dissagree on the matter.
imamthewalrus 2 years ago
@imamthewalrus Fine. But there is no evidence that our brains are more highly evolved today than they were 10,000 years ago or more. Scientist have talked about this, because we seem to have this thought that our ancestors were stupid. They were not, and if not for their smarts to survive, we wouldn't be here now. What caused religion has nothing to do with evolution, but fear. What caused the fear? Might have had something to do with mega floods after the end of the ice age.
ScottJanssen 2 years ago
I missed religion when I first left it but I think what I went through was simliar to someone letting go of any addiction. It was a crutch.
I'm fine with it now.
awatson945 2 years ago
All arguments brilliantly rebutted. 5 stars.
RationalConclusion 2 years ago
It's amazing how many people think of the warm fuzzy they get from religion (forgetting about the bad parts) and believe that it's a feeling that's special to religion, when humans can fixate on just about anything given the right circumstances. Or not, as appropriate to that person. :D
