I'm able to stream 1080p contents over 802.11n using this protocol (NFS). On the same network streaming the same content using SMB (windows share) fails.. that's why I made up this video. hope it helps.
@SoCalS2000 You can stream out using the standard windows share mechanism. It's a bit tricky to configure in windows 7 and it doesn't perform good as NFS does.
Using the method I described, You'll be able to stream 1080p MKVs on your 802.11n wifi network providing you've good a good signal in Xtreamer (good = 86+-)
There is no major difference between XP and Win 7 in terms on installing the hanewin NFS Server. Once you get it installed and running you don't need to configure anything on the xtreamer itself... just browse your "network places" area and you'll have your new NFS share accessible.
@meni19722 Thank you I forgot about this. In the video it's a different Xteamer to mine. Mine is Xtreamer Pro. Are his instructions compatible to my machine? It looks very complicated, if I mess it up will it affect the basic working of my Xtreamer, that is I just load stuff onto the Hard Drive or USB memory stick, and watch on my TV.
@ludvan67 In the newer versions the PC setup with hanewin NFS will remain exactly the same. Without the need to log into the xtreamer web-interface as the 2.x firmware will be able to scan your network and discover your newly configured NFS share.
This cannot affect your current way of working with the device, playing off from local USB or HDD will always work for you.
@meni19722 Sorry I tried to send you IM, but it was returned. The NFS Server i downloaded from the same URL as in your video is only a 30 day evaluation version. Your Vid' is 2 years old. So it seems things have changed. I don't buy stuff off the Net because of the worry of having my credit card details stolen. Thanks for your wanting to help, but I think I'll abandon the whole thing.
Thanks very much for this valuable clip. I was going crazy after I had windows 7, and I followed what you have done exactly. It worked. I really appreciate it.
It's nice to see that you converyed my post on the Xtreamer forum "NFS How to and Tip" to a video. But you forgot a very important thing. In Hanewin on the NFS tab, you should fill in 32768 as maximum NFS transfer size. You forgot that in your tutorial. Now the maximum size will be Hanewin's default of 8192. It's the same as a normal network with two pc's with two network cards, where one (Xtreamer) is set to 100 mbit and the other (Hanewin) is set to 10 mbit. The speed will be the lowest one.
Regarding the inability to use UDP, I'm not sure why this happens for you, only thing i can think of is the windows firewall (which should be disabled in your home protected LAN in my opinion)
Hi again, for some reason the problem went, im not sure if its because i had more then one of the client open. It doesn't show up in the task bar so i think i opened another.
Everything is working great now and thanks for the tutorial. One thing though, if i try to use UDP nothing shows up but when i use TCP it works, any ideas?
Hi mate, thanks for the guide. The whole thing worked originally but when i reopened the NFS client under exports nothing appears when i restart the server.
I think i'll continue using NFS even when FW 2 is out. Mainly due to NFS performing better, its also capable of running on UDP which produces less overhead.. plus configuration is simple on the PC and absolutely zero config. on the device itself..
Today I successfully streamed 1080p using wifi using NFS on udp, I hope CIFS will also perform similarly
I searched NFS server then i think i gonna be in youtube videos for Need for Speed THEN I LOOK THIS then i took an arrow to my knee

This didn't work for me. Isn't there a way that I can just stream content off my network?

@meni19722 Thank you once again. I'm a bit apprehensive to try this, but if it won't affect my current use of the device, I'll give it ago.

@Deejee41 im using 65535 works fine.
Fastest setting.
I dont do the step in the webgui it works anyway.
lang666 1 year ago
@lang666 that would depend on how good your wifi connection is..
if it's poor, re-transmitting a package will take longer time

@BigRocheyD check ur open ports in ur router.
lang666 1 year ago
@lang666 The communication in this case is on the LAN only, no ports needs to be configured / opened on the router's NAT configuration

You need to make sure that you run the administration applet as an adminisrator, otherwise you can't save your export files..
(I'm also using win7 64bit)

It works great! Thanks. Guess firmware 2 will make smb possible so this won't be necessary anymore, but untill that time it works!
