  • The ultimate Sacrament is Ayahuasca become the devine,

there is no second power you are the power.

  • I was raised Roman Catholic - left the church when I was 14 ---attended the

Episcopal Church while in the Army - after the Army drifted back into the ways of

world --- eventually became an Assembly of God minister if turning my life over

to Christ -- left the Assemblies for a variety of reasons and this past January 2011

was confirmed into the Episcopal Church after attending for two years and

finally found a home. It is where I belong after a long search.

  • When you looked at the calendar you said, today is green...What do the different colors mean?

  • @see4ward The church follows a liturgical calendar with different seasons, like Advent in December, Lent in the early spring, and so on. Each season has a color (Lent being violet, for instance, and red for Pentecost), and this will be shown in the color of the vestments clergy officials wear, as well as in the decor of the sanctuary. Green means 'ordinary time', which means no special season is being observed. That mostly means it's between Pentecost and Advent...or, summer/autumn. :)

  • Religion is such bullshit it's ridiculous. Anyone with a brain would just walk away and live free of religion.

  • @spareaxYou said it spareaxe, Anyone with a brain.

    I wish you well.

  • gostei dos seus videos. pe. sergio - brazil

  • The Bible says that the function of the priest is to make sacrifices to God. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the sacrifice we offer in the New Covenant. Priests might do other actions but many of these can be done by non-priests like leading prayers and organizing the parish. Only a priest can offer Mass.

  • are you protestant?

  • Yep. And catholic, in the sense of the 'universal' church.

  • Oh a Vatican II result! I'm glad to see this out in the open because it shows the apostacy Our Lady warned of at Fatima.

  • The Episcopal Church has considered itself protestant and catholic for sometime before Vatican II.

  • @FatherMatthew Yes, your idea of what "catholic" means is incorrect.

  • hee hee i am in the choir at this church!! he is really. he is REALLY nice! i love this church!

  • @Gabbsygoo Agreed, after getting to know him over the past three years I can easily say the same. : )

  • Father, have you considered one in support for religious order vocations?

  • Where's your amice?

  • Clergy tend to not wear the amice anymore...it seems that it is only in use in Traditionalist Catholic and Anglo-Catholic churches.

  • I know, I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek. I sometimes feel like I'm the last priest to wear one.

  • ok, that just went over my head..... However, I have been raised to understand purgatory. I wonder if Father Matthew's sect believes in purgatory?

  • Love your videos and use them in my Christian formation groups. You make good points on the issue of priestly vocation as well as our role within the larger life of the Church. I like to tell my congregation that I'm not a "solo act" - worship and life together as the Church is a community process.

  • Man this brings me back to fifth grade and catholic school. Funny outfits and colours priests would wear.

Interessting topic though, and you are a very good speaker.

  • Yeah, but there are a lot of differences between Catholics and Anglicans...too many to list for now.

  • Hello,

Peace of Christ be with you all.

I stumbled across this video while looking for the Canadian National Anthem to take to Australia for WYD... anways...

    I found some things objectionable:

    SwordsmanOfFaith:

Religion isn't about choosing which religion fits us, but about conforming ourselves to fit the truth.

  • I like your videos very much. But can women be bishops?

  • Yes. In the Anglican Communion, many churches allow it.

  • Matthew Moretz?

Moretz? Is that a Jewish name?

Is it any wonder that a Jewish man is promoting liberal, anti-biblical Christianity?

This religion is a tool invented by jews for US, non-Jews.

Read the Talmud and the vile racism against White people and non-Jews. They call White people Goym, which literally means "cattle".

Lets not forget that the Talmud also mocks Mary as a Whore, and makes such vile statements against Jesus that any (white) Christian should be very outraged.

  • If suspicions and aspersions such as yours didn't lead to genocide, they'd be laughable. Repent from your hatred and turn to the love and mercy of God.

  • So you are Jewish and you openly support the racism of the anti-White, anti-Black and anti-Christian Talmud (a Pagan book from Babylon.) OK.

Do you also preach that the Jews are Biblical Israel when in fact true Israel are the White people of Europe? The Khazarian Ashkenazi Jews who are not even semites, nor Israelites, claim to be Gods chosen race. Gods master race. That is racist. Do you support Jewish racism? Remember, there are those that claim to be Jews but are the Synagogue of Satan.

  • How many times do I have to say that?

Jews are NOT, I repeat. NOT a race.

Why does everyone believe that just because some ignorant little black haired man said so?

Jews are the chosen people because they were the first people to believe in God. Christianity started originally as a JEWISH SECT.

People who have Judaism as their religion are called .."Jews" .. what a surprise.

  • Most Ashkenazi Jews are ethnically mixed (European and Semitic).

  • That was in response to Teh.

  • Oh, please. I can't agree with Fr. Matthew on every view he has, but why play on his beliefs in equality by being an anti-Semetic? This video is about the rite of ordination, which is accepted in most any Christian denomination, and does not reflect the social views of the Episcopal Church.

  • A video on vestments soon perhaps?

To allay the fears of the fundamentalists (not me)?

  • Between the choice of obviously church clothes and a business suit, I'd choose obviously church clothes. A sign of a different kind of business. A pastor in a business suit is disturbing to me. But maybe I need to loosen up?

  • I agree with you there. No, you need not loosen up at all! I believe as a sign of respect and honor to God and the Eucharist the ordained should wear vestments. Also, a person in need can always find a minister when he dresses appropriately. This is one practice I wish my evangelical church carried on.

  • I'm really enjoying your videos, you're doing our church a great service. Can't wait to try and show the rector your bit about moving the sign. Hope you don't mind if I download it to my laptop - I don't think he can handle going to youtube on his own. Peace.

  • Don't mind at all. Share and share alike.

  • Fr. Mathew,

Very nice video. Says a lot.

  • Great job Matthew! "ordination is a long process... that never ends" Isn't that the truth! :) About the something special that happens, will never forget being surrounded by priests singing Veni Sancte Spiritus. And just as cool to surround someone who's being made a priest and lay hands on during the prayer. Keep up the good work. Blessings. Lori+

  • Vader Matthew, When you say process is "not over" for you, are saying you must continue to grow into priesthood (like we all must grow into baptism). Or do you mean to become a bishop, too as part of your process? Also, do you think baptism is, ultimately more significant than ordination? De god zegent u!

  • Nice, but a fairly light dusting over the topic. I was looking forward to seeing your discussion on the process of becoming ordained, not just the laying on of hands, but discernment, seminary, and that sort of thing. Also, I think you could have said far more about what a deacon actually does in contrast to a priest.

By the way, where can I get one of those cool calendars with the liturgical colors shown on the appropriate days. . . in color?!

  • True. It is a light dusting, but hopefully, like a good CSI, the dusting will expose the fingerprints, inviting further investigation. The challenge of short form.

  • The calendars with colors can be obtained from Morehouse Publishing. As I recall they have the Book of Common Prayer reading citations on them. It's been a while, but I think they are available in fall. You could get the one for 2009 around Advent and it should have the last few months of 2008 on it as well.

  • Thank you Father Matthew for you videos. I lost my faith in the Christian church some time back. I studied church history, and theology, but found a resentment against my learning for various reasons. I lost hope and found myself feeling as if the church was a breeding ground of willful ignorance. Your videos show me that maybe there are some Christians out there who do wish to learn and that there are indeed clergy willing to teach.

  • Religion for the ADHD YouTuber! You just got yourself a new subscriber.

  • Wonderful to have another inspiring and educational video. This makes me think of my own future ordination.

  • Another great video.. thanks. You videos take what is largely misunderstood, and in a easy to understand way you explain them. God bless you.

  • Father M. Good video to understand ordination! Seems Episcopal Church now has more young clerics like you which is great! Growing up,my priests were mostly older people who smoked, looked sad,and always men. New mix of clerics:old, young, male, female is awesome! Also, you look like pop singer Jason Mraz.I am looking forward to video about homosexuality & exorcism.I always thought Linda Blair was lesbian. Just joke! You can make next video about odd questions people ask you. From your Dutch Buddy

  • Fr. Matthew, thanks for this video. I am excited about my future ordination into the priesthood--just a couple of more years, Godwilling.

  • Hey there, cool, I am training to priesthood too, but I still have 1.5 years on my undergrad.

DutchGuy

  • Очень хорошо, много повсеместно в библия. Больше в библии о помогать бедным и те без обороны чем там о вещах которые политиканы воюют о сегодня, как выкидыш, и гомосексуализме... " Когда вы ужинаете хлебоуборку вашей земли, не поужинайте к очень краям вашего поля или не соберите gleanings вашей хлебоуборки. Выйдите они для бедных и чужеземца. Я ЛОРД ваше God." " 23:22 Leviticus;

  • Hi CommieThreat,I want to translate your loving response from Russian to Eng. so more people can understand. You responded to my comments about God's preferential option for the poor & communitarian values by saying(in Russian):"Very true, many places in the Bible! There is much more in the Bible about helping the poor and defenseless than there are things which politicians fight about such as abortion and homosexuality. You cite Lev. 23:22.I embrace you with affection! You will be good priest!!

  • Возлюбленные! будем любить друг друга, потому что любовь от Бога, и всякий любящий рожден от Бога и знает Бога. Кто не любит, тот не познал Бога, потому что Бог есть любовь. Миру нужна влюбленность, не ненависть!

  • This Russian quote is 1 John 4:7-8. How could anyone "neg" that type of writing in any language. God help us!

  • You guys should offer English translations. From what I can read (using babelfish translator online) you are making some wonderful points.

  • We could, Russian is neither of our languages though haha.

  • I see. Interesting.

I'm looking forward to becoming a priest/pastor myself and I'm currently looking up in what direction I should go.

I won't be a roman catholic priest, because I'm not okay with the celibacy.

I could think of myself being a lutheran pastor at the LCMS/WELS.

I'd like to know about the Episcopal/Anglican church in America. What are your beliefs? What do you think of Homosexuality and Exorcism?

    God bless.

  • If your direction in serving the in the Kingdom of God, SwordsmandOfFaith, is going to be contingent upon a doctrinal statement concerning exorcism, I would strongly urge you to consider some other line of work.

  • Well, little things can make a big difference, music actually made a big impact on how I decided to pursue my path to clergy.

  • The swordsmanoffaith, on his profile, calls for the "eradication of homosexuals, muslims, mormons." How scary!

My question is "Who Would Jesus Eradicate?"

Why would any pastor or priest (or any Christian) want to eradicate anyone?

  • I actually call for eradication of the sin itself.

God hates sin, but loves the sinners.

    God bless.

  • Maybe my English is substandard, but your profile does appear to make reference to the actual eradication of actual people, not just their sins. On your profile you state, "It's not just Islam that needs to be eradicated. Homosexuality needs to. Satanism needs to. Blasphemers need to. Mormons need to. Witches need to. Judeo-Christians have many enemies, thus why the church tried to exterminate them all but failed because the state turned against it." I am sorry the state has let you down.

  • Islam, Homosexuality etc. are sins. Not people.

  • Well, it sounds like your preferences for any particular denomination, SwordsmanOfFaith, will be mostly moot, as I cannot imagine the governing bodies of any denomination extending an offer of leadership to you, based on your profile. You hardly seem disposed to be the "symbol" to which Fr. Matthew is referring. But by all means, keep shopping... but not for a denomination. A psychologist (and I am quite serious) would probably be of more value.

  • Yes I see .. That's why I was asking. I can't be a symbol for a church that doesn't support my beliefs, you see.

A priest can't be a symbol of a catholic church if he doesn't support the 7 sacraments, or any other catholic teaching, right?

That's why I was asking what the stance of the episcopal church was.

    -God bless you.

  • Hey, not trying to be mean or anything, but I don't think the episcopal church is right for you. Your profile cites that the Synod Luthern churches are the only right ones, but the Episcopal Church has a full recognition of the ECLA and vice versa, interchangable service and clergy.

  • Ahh, thank you for your reply. I just thought that I could look into the episcopal church, seems it's not the right one though. And I'm not really fond of the ELCA either.

Again, fala for your reply, brat!

When I first saw your name I though someone's going to threaten me, seriously. Haha. =)

    - God bless you, brother.

  • From reading your profile (where you clearly advocate eliminating and eradicating other humans who don't share your beliefs) I can't imagine any church wanting you as a "symbol." Unless they want you as a symbol or example of something not to be imitated. You don't hate just the "sins." You hate the sinners, too. Hate speech is a violation of youtube's terms of service.

  • Dude, your profile calls for elimination and eradication of human beings. You are scary. Why would you want to be a priest or pastor? Clergy minister to all types of people as a symbol or icon (as Fr. Matthew puts it) of God's love and mercy. Have you considered a career as a prison guard? Get some help, bro!

  • Father Matthew, There are mixed opinions about homosexuality in the Anglican Communion. Some Anglican and Episcopal clergy openly call for the extermination and eradication of gay people (or to deprive them of civil and human rights). Where do you stand on this issue? Do you think gay people can be allowed to be ordained? Or do you agree with SwordsmanOfFaith about eradicating them and exterminating them?

  • Hey AnglicanGuy246 and the rest of you finger pointing people; your entire life could be changed if you followed or conducted yourself in the manner HE said to do, John 13: 33-35

or choose to stir the hate.

    PEACE

  • AnglicanGuy246,

I'm sure Fr. Matthew does NOT believe in the "extermination' of any person, no matter what group they belong to. And no other Anglican priest would advocate such a thing either. It is unthinkable.

  • With regards to homosexuality, maybe it would be better to read what the Catechism says about all humans:

"Q. Why then do we live apart from God and out of harmony with creation?

"A. From the beginning, human beings have misused their freedom and made wrong choices." (page 845, Book of Common Prayer)

So, that makes homosexuals as sinful as heterosexuals. Everyone is in need of grace (see page 858, BCP)

  • Swordsman,

'The Anglican Church in America' is an orthodox Anglican church. It is not affiliated with The Episcopal Church or Anglican Communion. The Anglican Church in America also differs on homosexuality. The Episcopal Church embraces gays, the ACA does not.

  • Thanks Luzern76, that's all I wanted to know.
