  • This is pretty cool! Are they available in Canadian stores, or just online?

  • J.j. jonson..is that what th solo is called?

  • @thatchubbiekid its J.J.'s solo on the tune called Laura

  • Only difference I can really tell is that the brass has a little bit of a brighter timbre.

  • what mic are you using? sounds good on both instruments..

  • I found the brass one to have more of a clean crisp sound, but the plasitc one does not sound bad at all. good to practice not to preform.

  • So ya.... how about that banana....

  • Only thing i notice is that fact with the pbone it sounds like a cloth is jammed in it or like you have to open your teeth more kinda noise

  • Only difference was the loudness....

  • Seriosuly, did anyone notice the banana on left,,,

  • I stopped for seconds in, he is just creepy.

  • I wake up with a peebone every morning

  • what you should do is listen to the vid without watching which one he is playing and try to spot the difference...

  • Nice job on "Laura!" Has to be my favorite JJ solo. Also good to see that you take yourself seriously!

  • they both sound great just the brass bone is a lot louder and fuller

  • he kinda weird

  • the brass one's sound is noticeably fuller... however, I wonder the difference when using a different mouthpiece?? hmmmm

  • Thumbs up for Banana on the couch ;)

  • they sound exactly the same!?

  • I would have personally liked to see perhaps a comparison in the classical style as well since there are very significant differences between not only the styles, but also the make of the horns used for classical and jazz playing.

  • Instantly I noticed a few keen differences. The P-Bone is perfect for the high school and middle school student. Its cheap and lightweight, as well as overall easier to play. Only the seasoned musician would notice the tonality differences. However, the brass will always be the professional's pick as its resonant an full sound will instantly top the P-Bone.

  • Lol, nice banana.

  • You are a really good trombone player

  • I think the brass instrument does sound a little brighter and zappier but the difference is small

  • The brass one sounds...cleaner

  • Plastic one sounds a little more muffled.

  • I play guitar so I think pbone has good sound, I love Saint´s march!!!!! thanks for this video and congratulations for the way you play!!! Grettings from Mexico!!!

  • Anyone can dub a track over a video. There are so many variables to this; the comparison is virtually null and void.

  • I closed my eyes and was expecting him to go, so that was the pbone, now here is the brass one. Turns out he played them both. No difference.

  • im a starter with the trombone(6th grade) and im going to buy one of these and show my music teacher and see what she says and my music teachers fun so shell like it

  • @austinfire0324 hey, im in 6th grade and buying one to show my teacher. we are doing the same thing : )

  • @austinfire0324 Don't do it. There is absolutely no comparison. If you plan on being a serious trombonist, it's best to invest in a real instrument. There are too many variables (such as mouthpiece, microphone, etc) that play into the equation. You will never get the crisp, clear bell tones of a real instrument on one made from the same material as your garbage cans.

  • both sound good, however the brass one is the brightest sound. great video. thanx for posting.

  • Random Banana in the a Back XD

  • plastic sounds muffled compared to the brighter brass sound, imo.

  • Hi, my name is Paul. And I also play Trombone.

No, seriously! I really do! I played two trombones at the same time (it was the same note, and quality wasn't that great, but what do you expect when you're playing a small-bore with a 15C and a large-bore with a 5G!?). It's also on my channel!

No, this is not an attempt to get people to check out my channel, but just to say "Hi, my name is also Paul, and I play the trombone also!"

    Take care!

  • I Want a PBone, I think your love for tromboning you should buy a Pbone and give it away to a fan of your videos like me ( hint hint) P.S. I 'm a fifth grader and I am in the best trombone player in the whole 5th grade band(55 kids)

  • @TheWeirdVMShields Umm How many trombone players are in your band ?!? Cuz its a little hard to compare to other student who do not play your instrument, I play trombone but flutes have an advantage to all kinds of 16th notes (Since they play with fingers and not using a whole arm) XD And 55 kids, that's a nice sized band

  • @QueenShashsperonza our band has 15 trombonists

  • the Pbone Trombone sounds a little more mute than the brass. So no doubt the brass would be louder.

However the Brass cannot get to deeper sounds that easy. The Pbone would have an easier time with that.

The Brass can dent when dropped. As far as I know, the Pbone would have trouble to just have a small dent.

  • lol I didn't know Adam Sandler played Trombone. And did product placements. lol

but great video lol you're a great player; got a great sound. btw did I mention funny?

  • what type of oil did you use on the pbone

  • @123zeik Oil? Cream>Oil.

  • I hear the brass trombone resonate more than the pBone. It's close, but it's there

  • impossible to compare... they are different, pbone is better for some types of music, brass trombone for another...

  • I tired closing my eyes, and could not tell at all!!!!!!!!!

  • @ragtimeguru Same here!!!

  • 0:59 - 1:15 made me want to shoot myself in the face. You are an awesome player and I really appreciate the comparison. It was exactly what I came here for. But, you know ... the face shooting thing. There's that.

  • The P-Bone sounds a bit muffled compared to the brass one, both still sound good because of your skill, now if they could make a plastic Tuba :P

  • @Crymzon1980 There is a guy on tubenet (a tuba forum) that has created a tuba that is almost all plastic except the main slides and the valves. He is trying to get carbon fiber valves and wants to figure out how to make the main slides out of plastic also. It isn't the best sounding thing I have ever heard but it is pretty neat.

  • The brass trombone is so much better!! The plastic one sounds so fake and more like a machine rather than jazz or classical, it's also easier to move the slide on the brass trombone if u haven't noticed... This is from a clarinet player xD and I agree how the brass sounds rich and full in sound(:

  • they sound so similar to me

  • The brass is definitely better :P I would have loved to hear some marcato notes, even if they aren't really used in the style XD

  • the p bone is more damp the brass is more dry and resonant. both sound great. I would go with the p bone for a jazz sound for sure.

  • Hi everybody how you doing to day >; )

  • Hi!!!!! This is wonderful! I play trombone, too. I also play sax, clarinet, flute, percussion, trumpet (my favorite one) and strings. Have a wonderful day!

  • what you use for oil pbone trombone face oh grease which marks greetings from Dominican Republic

  • MY GOD MAN!!!!!!!!!! That's a really nice banana.

  • Nice work,I also play the pbone now and I think its great!

I find it amazing how well the uppertones in the harmonic series sound in every position.

For me the pbone is a totally different instrument than the trombone made of brass.

    I love both.

THe pbone has one disadvantage,it slides not very well,is there a solution for this for instance a lubricant?

    Greetings...Gert Leurink(Voorburg,Holland)

    gertleurink@gmail.com

  • The mime XD

  • 0:01 AH CREEPY RAPIST VOICE!!!

  • As soon as they make them with an F-attatchment, I may be interested.

  • @Ginger498 Ya, I heard that's the biggest fault. Hope they get that soon.

  • @TheFreshTrumpet Me too.

  • totally digging the banana on the couch

  • Now come up with some magic slide lube. That is my biggest problem with the pbone.

  • you sound like Adam Sandler =o

  • maybe use the plastic trombone during marching band rehearsals. Then use the brass one during performances. My biggest fear is taking a $2,000 trombone into a block with a 2 step interval and marching a diamond shape. That would certainly be worth the investment during a practice where damage is a very real possibility

  • Pbone has more soft and smooth sound, just right for jazz.

  • I think the brass bone is a lot better.

  • You are a skilled musician and ACTUALLY funny in front of a webcam.

  • Where'd you get your mic!? I've been looking for one of those for ever!

  • Oh and that was a creep way to end your comment at the end with banana by the way.

  • The brass bouces and and echos slightly more, while the plastics sound doesnt countinue as much like on a note and stops quicker.

  • Excuse my english :

-what kind of lube do you use with a Pbone ? a fatbased lub would damage it no ?

-I used to play trombone, and just when I started to manage pretty good solos, I was affected with a desaes that causes multiple symptoms among witch is the fact that I can't maintain a sufficient pressure with my mouth anymore. Just wanted to know if there exists some type of bone or embouchures that require a lower pressure. I dream about playing this wonderfull instrument again...

  • the brass has a richer more resonated sound, the pbone sound somewhat like it but it just doesnt have that same resonated sound.....just saying

  • Sooooo happy my school got one!! I love playing it even though the brass sounds better.

  • My friend got a pbone and it sounds pretty great although it's a little difficult to hit lower notes and the slide feels really strange because it's plastic on plastic

  • sounds like the brass has better tone,

  • IWOOT

  • Btw, having a metal mouthpiece helps a lot. Playing the pbone with the plastic mouthpiece it comes with makes it sound much more airy and thin. So if you decide to get one, get a decent mouthpiece to go with it.

  • @MastodonRockss so true and such a good point! thank u

  • ur gay

  • @chesse192837465 how nice are you?

  • I luvvv theee Banana in the backkk!!! i want it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm just curious, which gives more resistance? The pBone or the brass trombone?

  • the pbone sounds like it has a mute , but it doesnt matter cuz its still AWESOME!!!

  • Brighter or Lighter?

  • Comment removed

  • i jus want the pbone so i can get pink

  • Comment removed

  • The Brass Trombone sounds brighter then the Plastic Trombone.

  • @REALLYMAH Could be mic position is changing as well.

  • They sound the same. Do they make plastic tubas? I play the tuba.

  • You snell luke pie

  • well this is a nice video and i was wondering what you think about wedge mouth peices for the trombone as i have been using a schilke 51d for 2 years and i was thinking about upgrading i mean im in 7th grade been playing since i was in 4th grade so i have a good bit of experince im still like an amateur so i was wondering if you have yoused wedges and if you could share the pros and cons and does it have any effects with different trombones ?

  • pbone is def cool

  • brass sounds so much better. the pbone has a muffled sound to it. its like a sousaphone vs. a fiber glass sousaphone.

  • sounds pretty much the same

  • What slide oil do you use for the Pbone?

  • I love that J.J. solo on Laura!

  • thumbs up if u heard him say boners

  • fackkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • GIANT BANANA !!!!!

  • Damn, someone beat me to it. I've been joking with some of my repair customers that I'm going to Home Depot, get some PVC and build plastic handslides. I'm curious how the plastic horn holds up to the knocks the typical school kid gives their instrument. I already know how the brass ones fair. Sure the brass one is brighter etc. so what if the kid dents it every other week.

  • The plastic one sounds sightly muffled, but still sounds great. Do you have to use lube & water on the slide?

  • everything about this video = epic

  • I LOVE the banana!!

  • Comment removed

  • I MISS MY TROMBONE! I used to play, but it got too expensive. Now I want a plastic one since it is cheaper. It does not sound as good though.

  • The brass one sounds better, but the plastic one sounds about on par with it and it roughly $1400 cheaoer than tge shire trombone.

  • There's no doubt that the shires is definitely far better, but the pbone does brilliantly for under £100. But man, you're amazing!

  • Interesting comparison, a super nice hi dollar shires with a 150 pbone. I agree with his observations, but if you have to play outside in the cold... but, I would like to know what the banana thought, seems to be enjoying both horns.

  • The pBone isn't better, but it's pretty freaking close for the money.

  • @Dcampean they are about 150-200 dollars

  • the green one is not better than that one

  • how much for a plastic trombon

  • Nice progress for plastic, but the plastic is plastic. I think I can hear the difference. Brass sounds better in my opinion

  • i bet that would be great for marching in the cold

  • how do u make a pbone

  • haha sounds cool !! i wonder if they will make large bore pBones or even with f-attachments on it in their new products in the future...XD

  • both good, but I think the brass trombone is louder and has a more full tone.

  • OMG BANANA PILLOW

  • @PaulTheTrombonist I've noticed the same thing with my pbone. The lack of resonance and loss of overtones causes me to lose the "character" of my sound. Pretty generic tone. Overall it has FAR exceeded my expectations and I'll probably try it out on a gig or two for fun. Good video, I hope to get one like this up in the next few weeks comparing the pbone with my '49 Olds Super.

  • i cnt take tht vid seriously w da banana pillow xD hahahah!

  • is this guy a rapist?

  • The pbone is a bit softer and slightly less "bright", but it holds up pretty well. Is is a lot lighter?

  • theyre pretty close but i think the brass might be louder but im not sure

  • Nice job on this PTT, but I have to wonder how much the closeness in sound has to do with your mic and the compression of the audio going on to youtube. For $150 the Pbone is quite remarkable, and I am thoroughly enjoying playing mine, but it doesn't even come close to my Bach in sound or playability. When you are A/Bing them, do they really sound as similar to you as they seem to on the video?

  • I think the brass just gives a warmer tone. the Pbone just gives it a more striking tone..

  • i actualy prefer my pBone to my tenor bass trombone it sounds better

  • Nice banana you got there.

  • Great trombone playing, but drop the silly voice. It just makes you sound weird and creepy. Seriously.

  • @macree01 thats the point! its Paul The Trombonist, where have u been? haven't you seen his other videos?

  • Thanks for the side by side. You're proof enough that it's more about the player than the gear. Gear is important but at the end of the day you've got to have the chops.

  • @mrstableman Oh right I didn't know that but anyway it was just an advice and it's his choice of he wants to take it! I've been constantly reminded about such basics by my trombone tutors and band instructors! But don't get me wrong! Not trying to sound cocky or anything. Just trying to share what I have learnt from experience! :-)

  • Hey a piece of advice: do lock your wrists when you're sliding and try not to use your fingers and the bell to estimate the slide positions. Anw thanks for comparing the pbone with a Shires!

  • @chengningjanine This guy is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, has a Masters in Jazz Studies and gigs out routinely with the some of the top musicians in Hollywood. I think he is beyond trivial advice.

  • @MrStableman - well said...

  • @MrStableman Masters in Jazz Studies?

  • @badgerattoadhall Yes. A Masters in Jazz Studies at SDSU.

  • @MrStableman you missed my sarcasm

  • @chengningjanine when you get good enough you play the way you want. Until you see that day do what your teacher says. It's like drivers ed hands at 10 and 2. When you've been driving long enough.... One of Claude Gordon's student's asked him how come he couldn't hold his horn the way person x does. Claude told them when they got as good as him they could hold their horn however they wanted till then.... just saying

  • @chengningjanine yeah and apparently you must not be that good because how can you be a good sight reader without using the fingers for slide positions? You cant very well apparently due to you criticizing what I believe to be a master of the instrument for his age

  • I like the banana on the sofa!!

  • like the banana on the sofa!!

  • Nice Ben Stiller impersonation, bro.

  • I was going to watch the video, but then the guy started getting weird.

  • @gogogadgetboomstick he can play his ass off, who cares

  • i like your pet banana.

  • It plays well when you're alone ( soft, smooth, dark sound with the Pbone) but try with a big band playing lead......

  • nice trombone playing whataever it is

  • Man, the $150 P-Bone is legit! Great A/B comparison! I might have to get one for the studio.

  • Comment removed

  • I was closing my eyes and I noticed only one difference...the resonance. Other than that, the pbone holds it own. I am quite surprised.

  • Pbone holds its own, it has just a slightly warmer tone, less brassy (surprising, right?) very nice sounding instrument for 180$

  • ur a loser.....

  • plastic "pbones" are trombone wannabiez!

  • I feel like the regular brass bone resonates a lot better than the pbone. Not that I don't like the sound of the pbone, but it's comparatively really dark sounding.

  • the difference is in the overtones.....the brass has a more colorful sound than the plastic.

  • Is the pbone lighter than the brass one?

  • @StAmander probably!

  • no diffs , besides the prices

  • whats the diff?

  • very impressive..gotta add one to my collection..where do i get one?

  • I play bass trombone but I might buy one since they're so cheap!

  • Comment removed

  • gotta love the pbone

  • Anyone else notice the creepy bannana in the back.....
