  • @totalstargatefreak

Technically, it did affect some computers. A few of them reset to 1970. A couple went to 19100. But none of them had any serious effects.

  • Dave's not here man

  • you sure macs are perfect?

my mac crashed the moment it booted up

    :P

  • hal screwed up cause he had windows vista installed.

  • So THAT'S why HAL screwed up the mission in 2001 a space odyssey! It was a Y2K issue.

  • SCARRRRRY

  • my name is Dave lol

  • errh, scareh O_O

  • Speaking of the new millennium, I have a mac plus and ti recognizes 2011

  • "who's dave" OMG PPL

i love how apple tries to market to nerds. its people who want to appear nerdy but arent really who get macs. lol.

  • @ireadulisten I heard a saying "Apple, for those who are too good for windows, yet to stupid for Linux." lol

  • IM NOT DAVE

  • Blue Screen of Death 0:01 Top right corner

  • @cookie123456789012 I'm not sure when this commercial came out. But the movie predates the BSoD by 20 years lol.

  • nice fiction XD Like macs would ever be considered as corporate server choices "saving billions of monetary units"

  • who's dave?

  • the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie

  • @TheModdedMatt lol i was thinking about portal too

  • right before it said "that felt much better" my dad farted XD

  • thats creeper than the movie paranormal activity

  • @jokerman693 So you mean it was not creepy at all? as paranormal activity was as good as the blair witch project which was shit..also do you know 2001 a space odyssey???

  • @Cokecakepopcorn heard of it. not seen it.

  • My name's Calum not Dave!

  • creepy.

  • Macs: Y2K compliant.

  • actualy id rather have a cool glowing red talking light than an oversized white odly shaped box on my desk(that box is a mac...)

  • hal 2000!!! , it was on recess :)

  • And yet no PC systems screwed up

  • @Unknownboi88 i would of so sued apple into the ground for this comercial lol

  • HAL 9000 is not exactly a good role model for computers.

  • hal is glados's bitch

  • @TezzaMcJ lol

  • What the fuck happened to Apple's ad campaign?

Babies and short hair, what is that?

  • This isn't Michael Emerson. This is Tom Kane.

  • YAY 2001

  • who's voice is it?

  • weird, good im not named dave or that would b creeeeeeppppyyyy!!!

  • HAL9000 WIN!!! hahaha This just made my day.

  • Looks like the DROID commercial!

  • @NonstickMeat Well, since this was made first, you'd really have to say that the Droid commercial looks like this one.

  • @wacvet the droid commercial was based off of HAL

  • @NonstickMeat Just shows that this doesn't ring a bell anymore in today's "read less, watch the movie instead" society.

  • if hall exist i will creep out cause in the movie he kills everyone ,he would kill dare for liking more his macintosh more than him

  • It's funny because it's true. Oh wait no it isn't. :V

  • its hal 3000 from recess lol

    i never liked hal

    it creeps me out

  • discover science has same commercial.robot is talking about future and stuff

  • lol talk about condescending

  • Is this ACTUALLY Michael Emerson? His voice is usually much more crisp than this. This computer sounds foreign.

  • @sgreaves3490 Bear in mind the formant of his voice has been restrained to sound more robotic.

  • @TheSeanQuinnShow I still don't think it's him.

  • its the guy that does the voice for the "human" robot in irobot

  • OK......never bay MAC!!!!

  • My names Henry get it right you fucking HAL-2000 >: |

  • creepy

  • Wow? Did they actually run this? Seems so stupid considering Y2K was a crock. I can't believe Jobs would have approved something so negative either (and he was there c.1999)

  • It's Ben from Lost Television series LOL! Recognized it at the first!

  • wow... ben from lost. sorry.. i mean MIchael Emerson.. FROM LOST!

  • oh yea its HAL.

  • So macintosh is saying if you buy windows your computer will eat you and take over the world? cool!

  • didn't happen. Lol

  • it's so pathethic that they cant sell computers without trying to imply that mac is better than windows

  • id take anything over apple, since apple SUCKS

  • reminds me of glaDOS :P

  • GLaDOS.

  • I remember the year 2000.

Do you remember the year 2000, hal, do YOU????

  • That voice is just creepy

  • The female voice they used in the movie 2010 was even creepier. That was one cold bitch.

  • LoL! It's an allusion to the Y2K in the year 1999!

Really funny to hear about such a commercial right now!

  • HAHAHA ITS BEN FROM LOST

  • Good catch! That's why I originally posted it.

  • oh my bad, i didnt see ur post

  • No, I mean that's why I originally posted the commercial.

  • @myfriendsarenoobs : Are you sure he s "Ben"?

  • @myfriendsarenoobs oh really? lol his eyes are fucking big i gues that could be him

  • Clearly the makers of this commercial are misinformed.

In Y2K, China failed, everywhere else in the world was fine.

  • wtf, this doesnt make me want to buy a computer

  • Who is Dave? No Dave here, ffs stupid computer.

  • I don't care if he'd try to kill me; I'd take a HAL 9000 over a Mac any day! (For that matter I'd take an abacus over anything Apple makes...)

  • lol y2k

  • 2001:a space oddysey spoof for a commercial? kinda cool

  • I love my God & Creator, these things are nothing to me, except to my enemies - Apple Macintosh & Satan, God loves them.

  • ...what?

  • That computer has a creepy voice.

  • That is the voice of Michael Emerson who plays Ben on Lost.

  • " Dave! Answer Hal for fucks sake!"

  • im afraid or computers now O_O

  • @DiscoA1 lol

  • It's just something I remembered in the back of my head, but ...

Wasn't that machine we saw here called ' Sal ' used in a episode of ' Recess ' in Disney Channel XP

  • Yeah Recess copied it.

  • lol the y2k bug hilarious

  • omg my name is dave!

  • Mine also.

  • Y2K - what a complete white elephant. The only people who profited in 1999 were army surplus stores and bomb shelter fitters. Oh yes, and Ricky Martin.

  • oh god. thats creepy

  • Oh, yea, the global economic disaster caused by the Millenium Bug. Boy, that was terrible! Wait, oh yea, IT NEVER HAPPENED! Another case of Apple making a misleading or inaccurate commercial. In this case, they're comparing their product to HAL 9000, a competing model that DOESN'T EVEN EXIST! His voice sounds wrong. Couldn't they get Douglas Rain to do the voice for them? Guess not.

  • Well, it wasn't a disaster, but billions of dollars and millions of man hours were spent correcting the Y2K bug. It was certainly a disruption, but not in the way the media portrayed it.

  • That's like saying there are no elephants in my house because I spent a lot of money on spraying elephant repellant.

If you've had a bank account for more than 5 years, rest assured that they have lost and refound your account at least twice. Computer problems happen all the time - nobody dies and there are no riots in the street. Y2K was blown way out of proportion. Any problems would have been found and fixed within hours.

  • I never said that Y2K was not blown out of proportion. But to suggest that you could have done nothing beforehand and then fix the problem within hours is completely naive. Many systems needed to be reprogrammed, recompiled, and retested. This is not a process that takes hours.

  • Well, millions (not billions) of dollars were spent, but most of it was spent correcting old COBOL, IMS and DB2 programs on mainframes. Stuff written decades before. None of those old guys thought their kids would still be running that stuff 30 years later! The PC guys had their stuff fixed pretty quickly. You had to be running code from pretty far back to have a problem. Even then, who, running a Win98 machine is going to have a major problem if the calendar has a minor malfunction?

  • sounds like iRobot

  • hahhaha

  • creepy indeed...

  • Actually a lot of hardware and seperate software was the cause of this as well, not just the OS itself, as chips with embedded systems had the bug as well and hardware had to be replaced. At least with software, a patch was applied in most cases. AS I recall, some MAC software itself was not Y2K compliant, while the underlying OS was, partly in result of it being based on *nix and their method of date calculation in the OS.

  • "only macintosh was designed to function perfectly". Perfectly doing what? My friend works at a computer repair shop and he gets konked out Macs in all the time, both software and hardware issues, so whats so fricken perfect about it? Please Apple, stop this smugness youre showing, it only adds to the erection of Steve Jobs' penis.

  • actually they cost more so they arent cheap.....and they are more productive for....EVERYTHING!

  • Comment removed

  • im Dave Ming Chan

  • im Nick martin so your point is

  • hi Nick, im Dave. nice to meet you

  • ah but you didnt meet me you made an aqwaintance (i know its spelled wrong) with me but yeah nice to meet you to send a friend request to me

  • yea, creeeeepy...............

Damn, y2k bug was just another media hype. If you think your system might crash because of this bug, you might want to manually set it to 2000 and see what happens............

  • creepiest Mac commercial eeveeeeeeeeeeeeeer!

  • Another annoying Macintosh ad. Mac, we're so smug and superior.

  • Funny how nothing happened one second into the year 2000, nothing ever did happen.

  • Nothing happened because billions of dollars and millions of man hours were spent correcting the Y2K bug. The media misrepresented the problem from the beginning and hyped it into something it isn't, and now because of that, everyone says that Y2K "never happened".

  • Huhhuh.....Dave's not here!

  • We are all Dave...

  • weird!

  • I'm not Dave, but I DO like Macs better than PC's...

  • I find it funny how much hype and money was spent on "fixing" Y2K and how little time and money was spent watching the fing crooks at wall street and at the banks that did INDEED drive the economy into the ground. Ironic.

  • All the hype over what could have happened because of the Y2K bug, and hardly a thing happened. I remember my brother was all worried that Soviet nuclear missiles in the older installations might launch on their own and blow up the country or something. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • ha! that was funny

  • like it really happened

  • i may like ipod nano 4g but windows is graet mac is amazimng computers but windows is better trust me yull love vista the power of gates and microsoft+dell

  • Yes, I like my macintosh...

  • Apple needs to make more commercials like they used to!

  • Y2K was never a fallacy in the professional world, although it was in the media. Yes, in many cases computers functioned correctly with an incorrect date. It depended on the application. Y2K was demonstrated to be a show-stopper for many computer systems, and would have prevented many businesses from functioning. Billions of dollars were required to fix the problem, so I don't see how that is a "fallacy".

  • error

  • When was this?

  • This was for the 1999 Super Bowl, during the Y2K hysteria.

  • super bowl ad, I remember it well. I always knew y2k was a load of horseshit though, but man did people lose their shit over it.

  • Y2K...what?

    lol

  • Id be pretty scared seeing that advert for the first time if i was a mac user called dave lmao

  • Very funny - I always enjoy a good laugh about my stock piling days...

  • it was a hoax, many countries spent nothing and nothing happened, who gives a toss if your bill read 00 instead of 2000

  • As a computer scientist, I can assure you that the Y2K problem was NOT a hoax. Many computer programs do mathematical calculations that are dependent on the date. With an incorrect or invalid date, these programs could produce unpredictable results, or simply crash. I know that certain billing systems would produce bills for negative values, incorrect and large positive values, or produce no bills at all. That is just one example.

  • well as a computer scientist myself - I can tell you it was the greatest money making over reaction ever int I.T. Russia spent 2 per cent of what the US spent and got through it fine. Here's one of many quotes that can be found supporting me - Vivek Wadhwa, chief executive of US-based Relativity Technologies, who advised Terekhov (head of Russia's Competency Centre for Y2K ), said: 'The problem in the West was blown out of all proportion. A lot of people made a lot of money.'

  • 2001 a space odyssey with dr heywood floyd and frank poole and Hal

  • ahahaha that's pure genius on mac's part

  • when people start selling "Y2k compliant flashlights*" you know there's a problem.

*either stuid marketers, or clever marketers targeting stupid people.

  • Or maybe it's just a joke?

  • the creepy thing is my name is Dave...

  • This version of Hal reminds me of Hannibal Lecter for some reason.

  • But... Apple is seriously arragent...

  • "Macs are impossible to crash", they say.. LMFAOz
