  • Everybody who laughed when she said that the Founders were Deists and Atheists only proved how little they know about the history of their own country. They've been spoon-fed Right-wing hstorical revisionism. Of course, some of the Founders were Christian, but not all of them. Most of the people there, if they heard the religious opinions of many of the Founders w/o hearing their names, would definitely say they were not Christian, just like they say gay-affirming churches are not Christian.

  • This looks really good, but I can't understand what people are saying (I clicked the closed capton button, and nothing happened). Is there any way to put sub-titles on this video?

My comment from what I did hear is that Vander Plaats doesn't have the slightest idea what the First Amendment of the Constiution means. He was leading this like a prayer meeting instead of a public political discussion. He's a moron.

  • It's disturbing that I am associated with these "gay rights" morons just because I happen to be gay. Marriage is a social institution that has historically (not religiously) been between one man and one woman. Saying you have a "right" to same sex marriage is beyond moronic. It's like saying that a white person has a right to be black, it's insane because you're changing the definition of words just to suit your own pervasive liberal ideology.

Also "the founders weren't Christians" whatever!

  • This guy is very misguided when it comes to the common good of the people. I have spoken to him in person and things like affordable health care, lower taxes and basic personal rights mean nothing to him. He has a one track mind when it comes to marginalizing gays along with a sour grapes attitude of losing the governor's race. His influence in Iowa is unjust and not for the people.

  • That lady picked the wrong town to protest in! I love how Bob Vander Plaats handles the situation. He is very good on the spot.

  • @Projects4HighSchool Except he literally made no sense.

Oh, and also, it's legal in Iowa for same sex couples to get married. So "that lady" (me) won.

  • @SkaraMog Actually that statement that it's "legal" is technically incorrect. There is no law saying "gay marriage is now legal in Iowa" It has simply been stated that there is nothing the state can do to stop gays from getting married if they want to. Just thought I'd point that out.

  • @SkaraMog Like I said before... it's still technically not "Legal".

  • Simply put, Bob wants to live in a theocracy. He'd probably be better off living in a place like Iran.

  • @TheTruthHurts9999 said, "Simply put, Bob wants to live in a theocracy. He'd probably be better off living in a place like Iran."

Actually, he wants to bring Iran here--especially since they execute gays there, something I'm sure he's secretly in favor of.

  • How comes he quotes article 12 of the Constitution when there are only seven articles in the Constitution? Maybe I'm missing something here.

  • @ShadeCanopy It's probably because he's an idiot and has literally no understanding of the law or Constitution.

  • He also pretty much equates wives with prostitutes, as if you just marry someone for sex. It is also arrogant of him to think that someone would marry him for sex. Plus he has very poor grammar. How did he ever get a job in a school!?

  • You can barely follow what he is saying because it makes no sense. He has to really scramble to answer the question. And the crowd...ugh. People in Pella are so hateful at times.

  • The time for being Nice & Civil Are OVER......Vanderscum needs to be taken to the woodshed.

  • LOL if you actually think our deceleration of independence and constitution is suited to govern a modern day superpower like the USA. It honestly isn't. Even our own politicians understand this.

  • "they didn't want to protect gov't from the influence from relgion". I'm sorry but I don't think that the founding fathers wanted to have a nation that was christian-value dominated.

Hopefully "judicial review" would one day kick in for gay marriage.

  • Good job in calling him out. Wonder how he'd feel if his wife was deported.

  • Speaking of "religious freedom" (RF), how have these people (ie. Maggie Gallagher [MG] and NOM) convinced themselves that RF is predicated on openly discriminating (DS) against Gays in the secular world (ie. housing, employment, etc.) so long as one is able to invoke their (Christian) religion as a legal defense? Over the past 2 years MG has declared precisely this! We are a threat to their RF because they cannot DS against us; then again, according to MG it's lit. impossible to DS against us!

  • Did anyone else first misread the title as "Bob Vader is a Bigot"?

  • Notice the audience.....Mostly GRAY Haired Old fucks.

  • @rextrek Totally uncalled for. You should be embarrassed.

  • @rextrek You mean GRAY hair like yours, Rex?! Or was that bad lighting in the video on your channel?!

You're free to hold the views you hold, but when you express them with that kind of vulgarity and that kind of hypocrisy, you don't have much credibility.

  • "I think there's higher standards" ?? The highest standards is the constitution, nothing else matters.

  • @goodgirlkay The Constitution was set up by people who saw "religion" and "morality" as indispensible foundational components to a free and lasting Republic based on the Constitution. These are the same guys, including Jefferson, who wrote, "the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them".

Yes, the Constitution is the highest standard from a secular perspective, but the framers saw the Constitution itself as serving a higher standard- namely, God.

  • I am a Christian and I consider myself moderate with conservative leanings and I don't agree with what is going on in this state. I feel that taking away the right for same sex couples to marry is an absolutely terrible thing. You know I would go to bat for you SkaraMog and love you to death, but I feel that there are better ways of getting your point across than calling Bob and his group bigots and saying that he was spewing hatred. Everyone deserves their rights regardless of views.

  • @Mattvr35 How is me calling him a bigot and saying that he's spewing hatred taking away any of his rights? He can call what he's doing "Christian love" all he wants, but he's taking away the rights of others. Also, this is just the very end of his talk-- I sat there for an hour while he said much worse things about the LGBT community, atheists, single parents, etc.

  • @SkaraMog I am not by any means saying what he is saying is right and I did not say that you are taking his rights away. I am just saying that is is not necessary to stoop to his level with name calling. I know you have a right to speak your mind but I am tired of the bull from both sides. Name calling just rips this country apart even more and that is extremely sad.

  • @SkaraMog When you say "I sat there for an hour while he said much worse things about the LGBT community, atheists, single parents, etc." you are mis-representing the facts.

I was there, too. Bob said things that you disagree with, but the were never bigoted or hateful.

It doesn't help the discussion at all when you play the hate card, the bigot card, or the victim card when it simply is not warranted.

I see more hate from you and other commenters on this video than I ever saw from Bob.

  • @GITG7000 What have I said at all that was hateful? I called him a bigot-- which he is. How is Bob saying that same sex couples don't deserve the right to marry NOT bigoted or hateful? Trying to take away the basic rights of other human beings is HATEFUL, I don't care which way you try to spin it.

If I tried to say that Christians can no longer worship in America, you'd be ALL over me, calling me prejudiced, etc. But when you try to do it to gays, it's "loving?" Oh I see.

  • @Mattvr35 Also: I think calling someone a "bad parent" and a "Sodomite" for being homosexual (an inborn trait) is much worse than calling someone who willingly chooses to treat other people as lesser human beings and to attempt to take away their rights a bigot.

  • @Mattvr35 seriously dear.......then HOW COME YOU don't stand UP to people like Vanderscum, and his Luggage carrier....that handsome young guy standing right near him? NO LGBT person or thier supporters are trying to STEAL rights away from him......... He is a BIGOT,and a Homophobe....if the shoe fits - he has to wear it.

  • @Mattvr35 Thanks for your kindess, Matt. But, would anyone shy away from calling Bob and his group "bigots" if the focus of their animus were people of color seeking civil marriage rights? That is how I look at it. What also scares me is that they don't care about religious freedom other than their own: I am Pagan, and they don't care that I should have a right to get a legal marriage within my religion by my High Priestess.

  • I'm going to say first off, the judges weren't making any "activist" decisions when they made their ruling. I've known former *Chief* justice Marsha Turnis for 17 years. I went to Catholic school with her kids from preschool up until college. I sat in the same church with her every sunday from the time I was born. She sides with the anti-gay crowd. To me, thatmakes her decision to allow same sex marriage such a powerful statement about fairness and justice here in America.

  • Her and the other justices interpreted the constitution the most accurate way they knew how. It was not a hasty or carelessly handed out decision. People struggled morally with this and came to a UNANIMOUS interpretation even if it wasn't popular.

  • This guy ran for Governor, and didn't understand that an executive order does not overrule the State Constitution. Terrible.

  • I can't find a way to appropriately convey my hatred for this man and other like-minded people that won't put me on a Federal watch list. Good try, if only protesting at the Pella Pizza Ranch could fix the problem.
