Surprise surprise, if you go to the National Rail journey planner, you can only book within a 12 week time frame.

Can help with longer journeys, but any kind of regular commute, might not be any use at all.

Absolutely correct. I had to travel from Didcot to Birmingham international and return last february.

Using "the trainline" I checked each sector and found that the split points were Oxford outbound and Banbury when returning. Instead of normal return £64 I paid a total of about £34. ie virtually half !!
