St Bruno flake is a great tobacco originally from Liverpool via Ogdens and of course a city that has produced one or two decent musicians in its time.
You know, it's been said that if you were really going to smoke tobacco, do it in a way that would benefit you. And the way it would benefit you is by thinkiing of religious things.
have you seen the inglorious bastards movie yet? besides it being an awesome movie, it has a couple pipe scenes in it and a really neat-looking german pipe.
Saint-Bruno Flake (another classic that, like Three Nuns and Gold Block, disappeared from the American market when Imperial Tobacco decided to stop trading within US territory) is the only tobacco that ever brought me to the edge of up-chucking, not because it is bad but because, for some reason, it is a nicotine bomb. Or perhaps it was that florid topping.
It would be interesting to know why the famous flake is called St Bruno. Perhaps for some sky resort??
There are at least FIVE different St Brunos, of which the most famous is St Bruno of Cologne (1030-1101), founder of the Carthusian Order of monks, whose charterhouse in the Dauphiné (France)makes the famous Chartreuse liqueur. Was perhaps the original St Bruno Flake topped with Chartreuse?
thanks, right after i saw that i searched for st. bruno...it was the first one up....btw....have you seen the simpson's episode with Homer playing as Sir Walter Raleigh?
Saint Bruno flake! One of the most famous British tobaccos. I've never had but it seems to have a reputation as being a stout tobacco. An old post from alt.smokers.pipes:
"And welcome to the glories of St Bruno! This was my staple tobacco for many
years, until it became increasingly difficult to obtain in the U.S. Nothing
duplicates it IMHO, but there are a number of good substitues depending on
the particular nuances your taste buds pick up on.
I heard this brand mentioned in the Hamish Macbeth series.

Haha that first add was a chuckler :)
How do you find the saddle bit on that pipe by the way..? Does it sit in the teeth ok..? Does it suffer from tooth marks much..?
I need to experiment with some different stem types because one of my pipes just doesn't feel right in my mouth..
WaterfordSmoker 2 years ago
Saddle bits are my favorite!

Paul Campbell and others have mentioned Condor and Coniston. These are
superb (again IMHO), and even outdo St Bruno if you're fond of dark-fired
leaf. A number of G&H flakes (e.g. Ennerdale, Kendal) mimic other
characteristics of St Bruno, but in their own unique ways. Ennerdale gives
you that nice "British" scented character on a base of predominately
virginia leaf, while Kendal Flake is roughly similar but uses a variety of
stronger tobaccos."
