I'm wondering if this indicates that a lot of closet pedophiliacs do in fact become Catholic priests in an attempt to deal with their problems: (1) trying to suppress it (2) trying to be redeemed for their sinful feelings (3) trying to be exactly the opposite of what they are (naturally?)
In New Braunfels last week a youth pastor was convicted and sentenced to life for pedophilia. The judge quoted scripture in sentencing him. I think the irony was lost on this bible belt community.

priests are actually very educated men. It takes a B.A plus a masters in theology to become a priest. Its not like you walk in, pay 200 bucks, and they give you a certificate like certain protestant churches.

Obviously these aren't true priests. I defend none of them involved and if that leaves very few of them so be it. I would rather disavow ALL of the ones involved and have very few left than leave even one of those men (and I use the word grudgingly) in a position to do something like that again. This life will have no happiness for certain little boys if one of them is left. If happiness is only to be had at the expense of even one child then I would rather not have it. All of them must face God

How does one distinguish a true priest from a bad one? How can a true priest continue to serve in the same hierarchy of pedophiles and enablers? And what about their parishioners? This isn't so much a defense of christianity as it is a demand that the ones empowered to do so clean up the catholic church. How does one distingush a liar from an honest person? Look at their works. If they are heretical then they are not a true priest. And to blame God for the evil actions of men is ridiculous. The victims deserve a pope that will stop hiding and lying for these priests, hand them over to the cops and himself too for obstructing justice. MAybe then they will feel vindicated.

omniscience is mutually exclusive with free will. The only way one can know everything is if everything is deterministic. But at least if the omniscient being is not the creator, then it's not his fault what happens. The christians, however, DO believe in an omniscient creator with a divine plan, but free will as well. It's possible to postulate some other type of god to escape the paradox, but whether or not it's the christian god is a problem between you christians. And we still need evidence.

Omnicience is the capacity to know everything infinetely. Knowing does not require an action. Christians believe in a plan of course, and believe God will help them if they are faithful. However, they also believe that God will give the the free will to reject him.
I dont see how omniscience is thus mutually exclusive with free will. He doesnt hold a gun to your head and force you to love him or accept him.
Evidence is a whole other topic that I wont get into.

a god who took action to make things the way they are is PRECISELY what christians believe in. if god is an omniscient creator, then he knew at the moment of creation how everything in his creation would turn out, including who would believe in him and who would not. Even if he never intervened again between then and now (not so according to the bible), the very act of creation with the knowledge of the ultimate fate of everything means nothing is free. You either get gots fullness in heaven, or you get a place where God isnt: hell. Hell is an eternal separation from God. We choose where we end up. That is the Christian position. That's an awful lot of assuming you're doing on God's behalf to support what you're saying. Just because God is all-knowing doesn't mean we can't have free will.God does not impose his will on us. If he did there would be no need of laws, heaven, hell or judgement. We like our lives and stand before him at the end and are judged on our works. He doesn't hold our hand and tell us when to go to sleep or clean our rooms. And things do "really matter" when we stand before him in the end.

I agree we have such a mandate, but it has nothing to do with god if the only judgement that matters is when we stand before him (providing he hasn't confessed his sins away by then). Justice has only to do with us, living out our worldly lives, the only ones we know for sure are real. Justice is here, not in heaven.

Furthermore, if there is a penalty for not choosing to believe, firstly, this does not make it a free choice; it makes nonbelief a crime, deterred by threat of punishment. Secondly, since by his design he knows people will end up not believing, he has predestined those people to punishment. This is wholly incompatible with the concept of a just god and of free will.

This is not a MISTAKE. The hierarchy of the catholic church had a systematic process for dealing with people who accused priests of child abuse that reached to the highest levels of the Vatican. Catholic bishops moved offending priests from parish to parish, intimated victims, obstructed justice and denied culpability. They are guilty of obstructing justice and are accessories to the crime of child abuse.
