  • CA...RA...CA!!!!

  • This is the best!

  • I always come back to this video... Thanks for sharing it! I love this.

  • Ray Kennedy <3

  • WOW!!!

  • Who is the pianist????

  • Piano man!!!!

  • No words needed.....Simply Wonderful....

  • The absolute pinnacle of musical performance and ability

  • Nice major third by Pizzarelli at the end!

  • I doubt that even Jeff Hamilton could make this band swing harder than it is in this clip! And Jeff Hamilton's Trio can swing harder than some big bands

  • He kind of looks like Joel Osteen.

  • The Quintet du Hot Club de France would be proud of this version. Django is swinging in his grave!

  • That closing lick.....!

  • @Guitslinger59 That opening lick.....! (piano solo)

  • What a virtuoso!

  • i love his guitar, wich trademark is it?

  • @rulomano Benedetto =]

  • @Rg1527 thnks man

  • @rulomano i think there called Mol or maybe Moll something like this

  • @deepfriedpankakes you're right it's a moll guitar

  • John Pizzarelli's Trio Is great. It just don't get no better then this!

  • @Dust6chap6

You are absolutely right. Incredible trio!

  • John Pizzarelli's Trio Is great!

  • Great music! Is it possible to get a CD with that recording? I've searched the Internet, but didn't find anything like this. There are many Pizzarelli CDs available, but nothing about virtuoso guitar and chamber concert like this one.

  • 2:39 "I got it.....I got it." Holy hell, man, you do indeed.

  • this man is obviously more than a virtuoso....the problem is the tone of that guitar..i can't appreciate it..my problem maybe but the tone of that guitar..is dead..imho

  • what kind of jazz is this???

  • John Pizzarelli is playing in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) on July for free :)

  • Great stuff!!! And a really nice playalong for drummers!

  • Guitar Hero #mode on

  • Gotta say, these guys really kick ass.

  • Gran bel swing e buona tecnica ne fanno di John un grande chitarrista jazz rispettando i grandi del passato. Certo che la scuola del padre si sente eccome.

  • Let's see edward van halen do this shit.

  • Shit guys, these 3 musicians are absolutely amazing. Blew my mind.

  • Love this guy. Great musician!! ♫ Puts on quite an exciting show.

Comes to the Shedd in OR.

  • Anyone know this piano players name perchance?

  • ray kennedy

  • Keyboard man's lightin that box up pretty good too !

  • jazz shredding, hell ya !!

  • That fucking piano player....

  • Legendary stuff !

  • The piano player kicks ass because he plays his solos with his eyes closed

  • i believe it's the craziest chord strumming i ever saw here

  • jesus fuck!... and they call speed metal to speed metal!

  • holy shit!

  • Al prossimo Festival di San Remo invitiamo John Pizzarelli. Altro che Take That!

  • You can feel the smoke coming out of the fretboard when he plays that chord solo. INSANE.

  • wooo re poerozo

  • HELL YES! I wondering what to do if my Nat"King" Cole Trio CDs ever got lost or stolen. These boys rule the roost!

  • this just made me want to listen to django

  • When other great musicians say, this group "cooks" it makes us all understand how remarkable these guys are. What a performance by all three. I had both feet tapping and my wife said I was wearing a huge smile. Nuff said!!

  • i love it

but it's weird the song is titled "after you've gone" and the lyrics depict a sad song, but it sounds like "after you've gone, will be the best day of my life:D"

  • Can anyone post something from the John Pizzarelli concert with a big band where he performs the Beatles music. It is worth hunting down it is just fantastic. I have it only on VHS which i am unable to put on DVD,

  • The man has must add yet another string to his guitar to make it challenging enough for him to play. What a musician, amazing.

  • Amazing!

  • now that's some badass jazz right there!

  • That fucking piano player just set that upright on FIRE! HOT DAMN!

  • @KrummyBear XDDD

  • I've watched this over 9000 times

  • @TheUltimatePez I'm probably at 900

  • What is guitar is this?

  • After we pick our jaws up from the floor, all that's left to say is wow, John and his bandmates are freakin' amazing!

  • Unbelievable playing... supreme trio!

  • this is crazy shit! from 2:03 it gets soooo cool! and he just has this look on his face: "hey! I'm playing a guitar! :D''

  • Hardcore jazz.Great.

  • Di Meola and John are not even attempting the same types of things so to try to compare them is nearly impossible. Both are great players in their own right and I dare say better than almost anyone who is going to be posting on YT. Great playing all around very hip stuff. Sounds old school with a new school flavor...just awesome.

  • @jazzman3071 I get so tired of people praising one musician but feel the need to trash another. Both John P and Al D are great guitarists who play in very different styles. Pizzarelli doesn't get the acclaim he deserves - I think his importance won't be truly understood until "After he's gone." To those who say that Di Meola can only shred - listen to him on Friday night in San Francisco with Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin - Al is amazing.

  • so much notes ;) perfect, i love it

  • Yeah...........

  • the pianist is very good

  • tremendo Pizzarelli, siempre un placer.

  • What can one say other than, John is an amazing player!

  • muy buena rola, a dormir banda que descansen!!!

  • que grande son,la buena musica hace respirar mejor!

  • I forgot what a nasty tune this is....what a great version! It's like listening to Les Paul on speed!

  • That is simply one of the most amazing things I have ever heard. Great work, guys!!!!!

  • wow just wow

  • Nicely done John. One of the better versions of this song I've heard....and I've heard alot. LOL Serious, their phrasing and time changes are superbly executed.

  • John is the more fascinating Jazzman now!! wonderful performance and skill, wow!!!

  • wow

  • perfect!

  • I swear I reach some kind of 'high' listenning to this... It's freaking talented!

  • Stunning guitar. Wonder if it could make me play like that. ...not. :(

  • holy shit , now that is smokin'

  • holy shit!

  • esta musica pode ser ótima de ouvir enquanto eu saboreio um gelato delicioso... bos noite!

  • Could a father be more blessed than his sons work together...yes...I am my brothers' keeper...and my sons are just beginning to work well...when they aren't 9 2 5in'...enjoy.

  • Like Father like Son!

  • Now this is MUSIC!!!!

  • Good grief, we need a weekly television show with amazing talent like THIS!!!

  • @jeffreyclarencebrown Absolutely so that the people know what is called amazing and talented.

  • My mind just exploded. Just kill me now.

  • i have to learn his chord solo at 2:40... so cool

  • How can you not love this guy. The trio is the best thing since the King Cole Trio..

  • the chords hes making are composed of 3 octaves ;) awesome solo indeed

  • flat out smokin........

  • This is incredible!

  • playing a little too fast there

  • ANIMAL VERY GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ray Kennedy. I'm from St.Louis grew up with those cats as an influence. Ray and Tom kennedy and Dave Weckl. They've been friends since they were youngins'. They are all freaks of nature. And all just super guys.

  • Who's on piano?

  • @HendrixcommaMartin Ray Kennedy. No longer with the trio.

  • I think It's Ray Kennedy...

I can't stop listening to different versions of this tune, this one especially is amazing!

  • amazing....

  • holy shit solos...

  • shit man... this trio are plays like hell

  • @zemiguelvieira "are plays like hell." That's good, right?

  • Who is playing piano? Oh! it's a cat from my home town.

  • INSANE!

  • that guitar sounds perfect!

  • que bueno!!!

  • Haha, this was in 2007 but it really has that older, pastel-y look going on ;-)

  • i like how his solos..are so .. intense..then when he coems back into the verse..its all so smooth,.

  • actualy never seen a better guitarist than him, if anyone knows of one plllllease tell seriously man, though john kills it, amaziiinggg!

  • You're quite right! Can't think of anyone - absolutely amazing!

  • well tec1991t9, I believe his father is better :-)

  • really? what his name?

  • The Legendary Bucky Pizzarelli, whose style I like better than John, but John is amazingly talented. And funny.

  • @tc1991t9 not better, but equally as good, check out martin taylor, he has some serious tunes.

  • Kurt Rosenwinkel

  • John makes funny faces when playing :) but Scott Henderson beats every guitarist in that. anyways, i didn't comment the music, cause the quality is obvious, you know ;)

  • Wow..that speed....love it!!

  • perfeito! Voz perfeita! Tudo muito proprio!! ... Velocidade sem perder o romantismo!!!

  • I remember reading of a guitar teacher telling his student, before you can play FAST and clean, you have to learn to play SLOW and clean. Classic example right here. Ninth chords 'n sixth chords 'n octaves, et al., it's all a blur!! Awesome playing, JP!!!

  • his lead playing is really impressive; but im most impressed by how fast he can play those chord melodies

  • Love his stuff...........but his vocals needed more volume...

  • Al DiMeola?? This actually has some feeling, phrasing, and more than just up and down scales. Sorry, just never got the "greatness" of Di Meola. I guess that goes back to

Namsaj61's comment about assholes, now doesn't it? :-)

Great video! I can only dream of playing like that. The confidence alone is amazing.

  • @ homeslice1479: You're right, his playing isn't like Di Meola's... It's much better.

Di Meola is one of those players who can't phrase anything but still people hold him in such high regard because he can "shred." Just remember it's what you play that matters -- NOT how fast you play it.

  • @konicki Come on. You want me to believe that shit. What a load of crap. I love Pizzarelli but what you said about Di Meola is a pile of garbage.

  • @darkoanton5 Agreed, there isn't much bad you can say about Di Meola. Especially that he only shreds. His phrasing is second to none, and I've seen him live, and you can see the passion in his music when he plays. To say it's simply "shredding" is ignorant in my opinion.

  • @JamesIsMyNamo Ever listen probably has a style preference and that's understandable. I can't see why anyone would trash Di Meola. You can find many examples where it's not shredding. My favorite recording of his is Soaring Through A dream from 1984. But, I have no problem with Race With A devil On A Spanish Highway either. I'm not criticizing Pizzarelli but Di Meola writes most of his own music. Both exist in my guitar world.

  • @JamesIsMyNamo I fully agree. Anyone who trashes DiMeola hasn't a clue what they're talking about. You don't play with the likes of Chick Corea, Stanley Clark, John McLaughlin, etc... if you can't phrase.

  • @darkoanton5 Al DiMeola is an enterprise, that's why que plays with Corea, Clark, McLaughling, etc. He's not a real jazz guitarrist/musician. I'not saying he sucks, but he's not a jazz musician

  • @FuchsFran Are you saying Al Di Meola is not a jazz musician or John Pizzarelli. Either way, you're completely nuts. Jazz is just not swing music. Any other guitarist who are classified a s jazz that you would like to tell us otherwise. Di Meola has said he's a Latin player first and a jazz player second..

  • @FuchsFran what a wanker you are !

  • @konicki This is the kind of comment that makes me sad, very very sad. John Pizz Is the man, he's a genius is in reharmonization...but come on man, thats no reason to make an insecure insult about a musician who's just as important in his own genre. And honestly man, I prefer dimeola's solo phrasing. JP can reharmonize, reimagine, and reinvent any song, which is his true genius. No need to be immature and insult a musician with a little more technical focus.

  • is that Kevin Spacey on Piano?

  • No, it's Ray Kennedy.

  • A great talent, fantastic!

  • Not the biggest fan of his voice but WOW that's some impressive guitar playing. Very fast and technical but still mostly very tasteful. Not quite like di Meola but still awesome.

  • Really? I think is voice is hip.. Kind of like Chet Baker.

  • the only voice I remember hearing is Pizareli's, help me find the one you're refering to.

  • @undapar1 There's a version of this song from Django Reinhardt... with Freddy Taylor on vocals! I think the voices very similars =)

  • This what I call a Jazz pop, virtuoso playng, great fun but nothing creative, I've heard this music before, influences...

where is origiality. I even have an empession that don't even improvise

  • well, your "empession" is wrong. I have seen John Pizzarelli and his father Bucky more than once, and, unless your name is Joe Pass, you couldn't even stand in the same room with them. Remember "fun" ? that's what music should be, not just for the players....

  • well, namsaj61,

if you love someone unconditionaly, I can't help it.

But you are talking about my impressions and you are saying they are wrong.

Please think about it, you are saying nonsense.

You are either too young or from Europe:)

Americans always respect diff points of view:)

  • well, fusionjazzband, I am an American living in Europe , I am 62 years old and have been playing jazz semi and professionally for over 40 years. Yes, impressions are yours. As my father ( r.i.p. ) said, "Opinions are like assholes, EVERYBODY has one and they ALL stink". Upon reflection, this seems very true. Anyway, how sad are our lives ? commenting on YouTube...pathetic really. "love someone unconditionally" ?? what ??, yes, my wife of 41 years....and my dogs and chickens.

  • sure all options stink:)

I'm talking about your chickens, how do you like them, fried? roasted? seasoned?

I like my chicken to be seasoned and roasted, do you have problem with that?

  • Great singing, rhythm, chord playing, as for solo a little weak, too streitforward, conditioned:)

    great overall *****

  • What are you talking about? His solo's fierce!

  • It absulutly fierce for you and I don't have any doubt in that:)

  • Thanks for that. :)

  • you have no idea what you're talking about....and you can't spell.

  • do you know me?

I always have an idea what I'm talking about

I'm sure you don't have an idea what I'm talking about, spelling boy

  • I agree, in a solo he is kinda behind a little

  • It isn't always about pushing the boundaries of music theory...sometimes it's about FUN, and these guys play "fun music" with extreme virtuosity - best regards, Speling Bouy

  • sometimes it is:)

  • you think if he(she) spelled better, you'd respect his musical opinion?

    How ridiculous is that?

  • no, your rite, speling woont mak eny diffence....once a wanker, always a wanker

  • Beautiful: Is talent a thing of the past?- Bring back quality music or down with FM radio, I say!!

  • That was so great musically and so fun to watch-hear!!!!!Bravo

  • that was swinging so hard!

  • pas mal, mais pas comme Django !

  • Absolutely amazing and stellar! Wow!

  • holy shit!!! batman!!. amazing chords:O

  • From 2.43 - genious!!!!

  • John's a monster both singing and playing.

If you don't like his singing,

    jack you're dead.

  • This guy sound like O.Peterson at his prime...WOW! (Kennedy I mean).

  • 7 strings! wow!

  • what!? 2:41

  • Comment removed

  • WHAT!!???? I didn´t know he sang!!! Jeez, what a surprise!

  • I've got every one of his CDs, totally love his voice, musicianship, personality, stage presence. Good stuff, thanks for posting the clip.

  • In what album did Pizzarelli record this song?

    Thanks.

  • Hi, violistarevirtuoso, I just looked at the 18 albums I have by him (very first one is copyright 1990) and I don't see the song on any of them. But he recorded at least two duet albums with his father Bucky, I don't own those albums, maybe the song is on one of them. Or maybe he hasn't recorded it yet, only performed it live.

  • OK! Thanks for the answer.

  • Amazing. High five

  • ray kennedy's a beast!!!

  • Ray Kennedy - world class jazz pianist...
